ShinnokAmulet

Shinnok's Amulet

The Amulet of Shinnok is among the most potent and powerful of all mystic talismans within all the realms. It is the most magnificent treasure, and also greatest weapon, of its creator, the fallen Elder God Shinnok.

It is a bronze medallion with a green gemstone embedded in its center. The four sections of the amulet are etched with the elemental forces of Wind, Earth, Water, and Fire. Each includes alchemical symbols, shapes, and parts of I Ching trigrams, all of which pertain to their respective element.

In Mortal Kombat X, the Amulet of Shinnok is now made of gold but otherwise remains identical to its original incarnation.

Uses[]

Shinnok's Amulet is one of the most powerful weapons in the Mortal Kombat universe. It symbolizes greatness in the magical arts and was the weapon that Shinnok used when he and the other Elder Gods waged war against The One Being. Anyone who wields the accursed amulet of Shinnok will increase their powers drastically. For example, when Shinnok wields the amulet, his main power, immortality, increased to the point of pure immortality, which is the ability to resurrect himself, thus never be vanquished. Another use of the amulet is teleportation via portal. These portals may teleport the user anywhere in any realm, as long as it is a real environment. Raiden states in Deception that Quan Chi only knows how to use a small fraction of the amulet's power, but this itself is enough to make him a tremendous threat.

As demonstrated in the new timeline, the amulet possesses the power to trap multiple beings inside itself and unleash waves of crimson energy that can kill lesser beings instantly. However, out of Shinnok's or a demigod's hands, this power harms even the wielder. Raiden, in his corrupted state, even weakened by being in Netherrealm, was able to use the amulet combined with his control over lightning to single-handedly destroy wave after wave of demons rushing to attack him.

Trivia[]

  • In the non-canon action game Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, the amulet is presumably in Shao Kahn's possession throughout the game, and after his defeat, Quan Chi appears and steals it from his remains.
  • In Quan Chi's non-canon Armageddon ending, his punishment meant that he was turned into the very same amulet that belonged to Shinnok as he tried to challenge Argus and the Elder Gods.
  • In the second MK movie, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, Shinnok along with his Sacred Amulet is shown throughout the film. However, the amulet is made of gold with a ruby gem embedded in it, instead of bronze with an emerald gem.
  • In Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, an amulet that resembles Shinnok's can be seen in Wonder Woman's ending.
  • The Amulet can be seen in the background of the Metropolis Museum stage in Injustice: Gods Among Us.
  • Strangely, although Quan Chi publicly wears the Amulet throughout the entirety of Mortal Kombat (2011), due to the fact he was still using his unaltered design introduced in Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance, it is never recognized as Shinnok's Amulet by Raiden despite encountering the sorcerer multiple times throughout the story.
  • The Amulet is one of Raiden's Medallion Gear pieces in Mortal Kombat 11. There, it is referred to as the "Thunder Vestment".

Shinnok's Uprising[]

The Amulet has been mentioned from time to time, mostly in Sub-Zero's flashback scenes while his brother was unknowingly serving Quan Chi. It was first hidden by Raiden in the Temple of Elements, till the cryomancer cleared the way as he decimated the guardians, allowing the sorcerer to attain it! Scorpion, preferably called Hanzo, alerted Quan had the actual Amulet to him and Nightwolf after the heroes presented the evidence of his family's deaths courtesy of Sektor's data chip. Hanzo offered to tag along, then he stormed to the corrupt Palace and found Quan holding Baraka at his mercy! He decapitated him and retained the Amulet. Knowing it was real, Raiden urged him and Kuai to return it to the Temple of Elements, thus having Shinnok powerless and trapped in the Netherrealm, while allowing mortals to win the ancient war! The ninjas agreed to help each other which can hopefully restore peace to their fallen families.

Mortal Kombat: Vengeance[]

It turned out that Quan Chi had attained the duplicate as he abandoned Moloch and Drahmin while escaping the Netherrealm with Shang. Raiden noticed the Alliance's flee as an Elder God and they were able to have similar abilities possessing the real one. Hanzo mentioned the sorcerers may have limits, but even the fake can do so much. A colossal display of the amulet was located in the rear wall of the Lost Tomb of Onaga and his inanimate, undead followers, indicating that with the amulet, they'd be restored for their quest of revenge.

Return of the Dragon King[]

Although Onaga's goal was to find the actual relic, since he and his new followers knew he had the fake replica, they started on their konquest. Kung Lao's astral form followed Shujinko thru the Netherrealm in order to help Shinnok retrieve it. Although he'd instincts that something was off about it...

Later on, Onaga and his group of followers remembered the real amulet was in northern China. Fujin was alarmed they were able to retrieve that intel... Soon, Kung Lao discovered that the amulet was the last Kamidogu since it was known as the most omnipotent relic kreated!

Final Kombat[]

Raiden sensed the amulet was still secure, hoping that Shinnok nor his doppelganger won't use it by Armageddon. Several hours after Hanzo and Kenshi reunited with Takeda one more time, the former snuck out of the Shirai Ryu base as he remembered the weak Elder God's message; he must retrieve it from the Temple in conjunction with Aiko's corrupted gem where memories of Cetrion remained in order to restore her and existence from Armageddon. Unfortunately, Shinnok's double caught wind and stole the black heart before Armageddon was set. Thankfully, Hanzo retrieved the amulet and arrived moments later, even just in time when Shinnok was dying. The umbrakinesis revived him, yet the stress of Armageddon made him unhinged! He unleashed his desperation which also made the dark heart dissolve from the double's hold, before he was engulfed by Blaze! As theorized, both relics were able to restore Cetrion's existence, and with Shinnok's grey heart, he was able to ascend to Purgatory making it have a stricter government.
