Asgaarth is a non-canon character from the cartoon Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm. He appears as a member of an Eagle-like race of humanoids that are originally from Edenia.
Asgaarth was a wise advisor and general of King Jerrod. After King Jerrod's death at the hands of Shao Kahn, Asgaarth went into hiding, but he secretly remained in contact with Princess Kitana, Jerrod‘s daughter, where he served as one of her main advisors during her plotting of rebellion.
Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, Part II[]
Asgaarth was first seen during the failed insurrection in Outworld via Aiko's first meditation session. In person, while she was young, she only saw him briefly before she left the cave for good. She always thought he was sort of a father figure to Kitana.
He was seen later aiding Liu Kang and Kitana escaping from the collapsing Bell Tower upon Rain's defeat. He flew alongside the Dragon Jet piloted by Jax with Sonya riding shotgun, still grieving over Cage's loss. During their brief respite, Asgaarth was only willing to protect the weakened Raiden as well as guard over the Sky Temple and the Jinsei chamber where he was recuperating. However, he was able to find the princess and the Champion besides as he followed the Jet. He hoped the heroes would succeed and stop the merger before it's complete, otherwise Kahn's powers would be absolute, just as the way he conquered over Edenia. He also sensed a gathering group of warriors, in which Liu assumed they were led by Kung Lao. He stated they must pass across the Bridge, which was around 100 ft, though it'd be the route straight to Kahn's Fortress. He and Raiden continued to watch over the heroes.
During the infiltration of Kahn's stronghold, Asgaarth offered to take Aiko to sanctuary in Raiden's Sky Temple. They both believed that she wouldn't survive the massive armies for long. He also prayed for the heroes' success, especially the Champion's, since the Jinsei was drying up and Raiden became powerless from the merger. He then witnessed the god teleport a fatally wounded Kung Lao to the heart of the Chamber. They watched him die, unable to recuperate him, as well as Aiko being distraught and emotional while confessing her love over the poor monk before he passed on...
Raiden, Aiko and Asgaarth watched from the summit of the Sky Temple while Liu Kang defeated Shao Kahn and the world beginning to restore itself! Earthrealm and Outworld started to regain life as souls returned to their vessels, even Kung Lao's! The Jinsei was restored, and he was thrilled that the evil Emperor was no more, giving him the chance for Edenia to be rebuilt by Sindel restoring her rights as the reformed Queen!
Shinnok's Uprising[]
Asgaarth was with Sheeva and Sindel as they greeted the group of refugees from the newer realms, Triche. The ambassador and his daughter, Tanya, offered the royals an enchanted opal as a symbol of peace and sanctuary. He and the queen were enchanted by that rare gem, which abruptly burst into a portal where the Army of Darkness escaped from the Netherrealm and invaded the palace! He never stood a chance against them!
Days later, some of the prisoners were growing weary and weak, even himself... Until they noticed Kung Lao and Aiko outside of their crowded cell. He urged them to back up, though there wasn't a lot of wiggle room. He still Teleported behind the booby-trapped prisons and warped the inmates out under Quan Chi's and Shinnok's noses. The former monk contacted Sonya to conjure a portal leading into Earthrealm; she stated it can only be created from the last pinpoint close to the Bayan Har Mountains. Much to Lao's relief, he led everyone to the Wu Shi Academy, despite the monks' dismay on encountering otherworlders.
The monarchs stated to Nightwolf that they must be more prepared for any future invitations from refugees, while also keeping in mind that only six realms exist, according to Raiden. The royals decided to exile the ravenous Tarkans to Outworld on a permanent basis as they'd been too difficult to control after all the clans of Edenia reunited for the war but not till after they cleaned out the prison beneath due to Mileena splattering her body during her failed insurrection!
Mortal Kombat: Vengeance[]
Asgaarth alerted Queen Sindel there was a group of Earthrealmers arriving thru the palace gates. The Edenians were excited to meet up with the heroes, though Sheeva became suspicious. To her instincts, Kung Lao broke the troubling news involving the Deadly Alliance, Liu Kang's death while Raiden saved his soul, and the possible resurrection of Onaga and his undead army. He listened in on Sindel's past experience while Kahn revolutionized over Onaga, started his conquest in usurping other realms, and massacred the benevolent rulers. He volunteered to hold the fort with Sheeva and Sindel while also recruiting an army to counter the sorcerers' followers.
Asgaarth came storming into the throne room, announcing to Sindel he and his knights just received word the heroes were engaging against the Deadly Alliance, via Johnny's radio signal.
After the heroes' victory, Asgaarth remained with the royals as they decreed Baraka is free to relocate near the Edenian border, while the Shokan and Centaurs shall keep a sharp eye on him and his clan unless proven loyal to their cause.
Return of the Dragon King[]
Asgaarth stood before Kung Lao and Hanzo with Sindel and Jade beside him. He recalled Kahn's imperialistic rule overpowering the Dragon King, who's resurrection was proven to be true. He volunteered to stay with the royal guard and protect Edenia with the Shokan, while the royals and Liu volunteered to investigate the Lost Tomb. It's likely he received troubled news of Onaga's invasion toward Edenia from the Outworld plains.
Final Kombat[]
After the victory over Onaga, Asgaarth grew concerned along with Sindel, Kitana, Jade and Jerrod as Sheeva and Goro decided for the Shokan to relocate to Australia. He was curious as to why they decided to leave so soon, until Kintaro invaded the throne room! Goro was able to defeat him but made the offer to take over the royal guard as long as he doesn't serve Kahn, especially for how he treated the Shokan.
Asgaarth had forgiven Kitana as she was too nervous addressing Armageddon and her encounter with Blaze. He also admired Liu's strategies on taking on their enemies one by one before reaching Blaze or have them pit against each other. Even accepting Baraka, Li Mei, and other Outworlders to assist.
He stayed during the melee and even witnessed the eruption of Blaze atop the Pyramid of Argus. At first, he grew bewildered over the welfare of his comrades, even Edenian nobles, but several minutes later, the Netherwing returned triumphant! He was surprised Taven had grown so much and he congratulated him on a job well done for being the new protector god of Edenia as well as Argus' more faithful successor. He still functions as the esteemed knight to this day. He was also a supporter to Taven's relationship with Jade.
