Commander Cassandra Carlton "Cassie" Cage is a character in the Mortal Kombat fighting game series. Cassie is a former sergeant, the current commander serving in the Special Forces, and the daughter of Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade.

Cassie made her debut in Mortal Kombat X, serving as one of the protagonists in the game's Story Mode.

Cassie returns in Mortal Kombat 11 as a playable character and supporting character in the game's Story Mode.

Sometime after the Netherrealm War, Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade got married and had a daughter, Cassie. However, Sonya's perceived prioritization of work over her own family led them to divorce, much to Cassie's sadness. Being the daughter of a high-earning Hollywood actor, Cassie was somewhat spoiled, although her attitude changed after she was kidnapped by the Black Dragon. This experience convinced her to join the Special Forces, where she would be trained by both of her parents in combat.

Inheriting the charisma and cocky wit of her father and the stern, tough as nails attitude of her mother, Cassie quickly rose through the ranks to become team leader and, eventually, sergeant. She managed to defeat the fallen Elder God Shinnok single-handedly, even in his full demonic form, and eventually attained the rank of commander.

Initially, Cassie harbored deep insecurities, fearing that she might not be able to live up to her parents' legacy and expectations, especially her mother's. But over time, Cassie developed into a more confident leader with the aid of her friends.

Despite her brash demeanor, she has a deep sense of morality, refusing to kill opponents except when absolutely necessary. She also shows genuine respect for her elders and masters, as seen while approaching Sub-Zero. She is childhood friends with Jacqui Briggs, who is also part of the team she leads along with Kung Jin and Takeda Takahashi. Like her father, Cassie has shadow abilities, but would not fully master them until her encounter with Shinnok.

She is a stereotypical millennial, sporting many of the most iconic trends and technologies of her generation, including iPods, social media, and digital phones.

An evil version of Kung Jin appears alongside Jacqui Briggs, Takeda Takahashi and Cassie Cage during the Second Battle of Armageddon on the side of Titan Shang Tsung. However, they are quickly dispatched by Titan Kitana.

Shinnok's Uprising[]

At the epilogue, Aiko grew concerned as she discussed with Sonya and Johnny on having their daughter, Cassie, be brought into the world. After Shinnok was defeated, distant memories entered Aiko's mind as Cassie went thru her dystopian future with a few others. She also recalled a bitter divorce as a result, and she warned they must be prepared to prevent these issues.

Final Kombat[]

Sonya became preoccupied with her growing belly before and after Armageddon, as did Johnny, knowing she was in her first trimester. Several years later, Cassie Blade became an essential part of the Special Forces with her parents! Joining the other Kombat kids as they'd invade Kotal!

Trivia[]

  • Unlike in the Netherrealm Games, Cassie didn't go thru a bitter divorce nor a dystopian future, and unlike the MKX comic, she wasn't born under a one-night stand. It was planned, even though it was sort of inconvenient since the first trimester was during Armageddon. Jax and Vera had Jacqui soon after. Actually, her name became Cassie Blade instead of Cage as each parent balanced out their occupations nicely.
