Usually, Tarkatans despise half-breeds, but not these two! They are both from Outworld and are exceptional hunters and warriors, even under Shao Kahn or function as their own leaders. In the games, they never complimented each other. But they're still outcasts and can be acceptable if met under the right conditions.
A perfect example would be in Ikran's MK Khronology series, as they function well and sometimes in sync if they fight together. They were once a few of Kahn's best generals but were both slaughtered by the Shaolin Monks, Liu Kang and Kung Lao. They were revived before the invasion as Outworld went thru a failed insurrection, then served alongside each other and Kahn again as Earthrealm was invaded but were severed again as Mileena was slain and Baraka was KOed then went back to Outworld during the de-merger. Next, they served under the likes of Shinnok till they'd decided to function alone; with the latter being his own man and defender of his race, and the former wanting to rule over Edenia. They were both imprisoned then exiled and banned from Edenia. There were 2 versions of Baraka, with another being time displaced, though he redeemed himself as he assisted the defenders against his own kind and the Deadly Alliance. The former was wounded by Taven then found by Khameleon giving her the chance to redeem herself; both individuals regrouped before the Battle of Armageddon and joined the Forces of Light. They were both severely wounded, then engulfed in a fiery cocoon during Blaze's demise but were protected by Fire God Liu Kang's cocoon. They were then revived by Cetrion's and the Elder Gods' tears and since then began to bond near Edenia and within the bayous of Outworld, making themselves as excellent hunters and allies.
