Misanthropes are those who harbor a serious hatred for humanity or their own species, with some may even be Genocidal in those regards as well. It can also be for reasons. Misanthropy can lead to villains committing terrible crimes as they no longer have compassion towards their fellow people and in fact despise them. If they go too far, they may end up becoming cataclysmic.
Many human villains themselves (such as primate humans, cavepeople, or modern-day people) may also be misanthropic or self-hating humans, as they view their species as mentally stupid, inferior, irredeemably flawed, or worthless. This could also include the Undead (Noncorporeals, Zombies, Vampires, etc.) that are disdainful for the living and wish to destroy/transform them.
Human misanthropes that also want to destroy humanity due to whatever misanthropic reason tend to be hypocrites because they are themselves human and logically cannot survive their own goals. They are also more hypocritical if they think they are the only humans that should be allowed to exist, regardless of their reason. (Ex: Johan Liebert, since he wants to be the last human when the world ends, and he was working on that goal for most of his time.)
Non-humans (Aliens, Robots, Animals, Plants, Humanoids, etc.) may also be misanthropic as they view humans as stupid, inferior, irredeemably flawed, worthless or oppressive. However, it should be noted that not all are necessarily misanthropic as most are merely following their programming.
While misanthropes despise humanity, they often make exceptions for themselves or their loved ones and can still love and care for certain people. They can also sometimes overlap with Misogynists and Misandrists if they have a special hatred or distain towards a specific gender.
Note: For a villain to qualify as a full misanthrope, they cannot just hate a couple people. They have to show hatred for every person. And remember, if they go too far with their misanthropic goals to the point where it would destroy their world, universe or multiverse they live in, they may end up becoming Cataclysmic.
They are the polar opposite of Philanthropists.
