Chameleon is a ninja who utilizes camouflage during fights in the Mortal Kombat fighting game series. He made his debut in the Sega Genesis/SNES versions of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (Only through a Game Genie or Pro Action Replay; therefore, it's not his official debut). He also appeared as a hidden character in the PC, PlayStation, and Sega Saturn versions of Mortal Kombat Trilogy and as a playable default character in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon.
Chameleon first debuted in the PlayStation, Sega Saturn, and PC versions of MKT as a male ninja with partial transparency that changed color. In the Nintendo 64 version, he was replaced by Khameleon, a female counterpart who is actually an entirely separate character. There was initially little information about Chameleon as he had no storyline or game ending. All that was known about him is garnered from the hidden option to fight him (available upon beating the game), in which he is referred to as "one of Shao Kahn's deadliest warriors". He later returned in MK:A with a completely new design and a backstory.
Mortal Kombat: Shinnok's Uprising[]
Chameleon was unveiled to be the secretive preserver of the Saurian race. He remained behind the scenes during Shinnok's invasion and finding out of Syzoth's ulterior motives, the jig was up once his master was defeated and trapped in the Netherrealm! Chameleon didn't hesitate to maul the fake general, Reptile, and he broke the news to Kitana and the monarchs that he and his partner, Khameleon, shall reform their race under their benevolent rule.
Return of the Dragon King[]
Chameleon, along with Khameleon, were spying on Onaga and his growing army deep in Outworld. They were the generals of the Saurian forces and great enforcers to the Edenian Resistance. They even led the assaults against the enemy horde within the Living Forest, even springing several traps, before Chameleon had his hands full with the undead Jax. He was incredibly skilled and resilient, even was able to disable his bionic arms and attack his vulnerable spots, before he threw him into the pile of fallen trees by Jax's quakes. Until he was sucker punched by Sonya in which Khameleon took over. Thankfully, the two horrid warriors were incapacitated by Ashrah and her Kriss sword.
Both Chameleons escorted their ally, Reptile, and the Saurian infantry to Zaterra as soon as they were fully recovered.
Final Kombat[]
Chameleon and Khameleon were watching from a far balcony at the Edenian Palace as Liu, Kitana, Baraka and others were discussing their strategies with the monarchs in prep for Armageddon. The male counterpart met up with Taven, Li Mei, and Bo' Rai Cho during the soiree in the eatery as he planned on spotting the enemies during the melee, even keeping an eye on Daegon and the overlords. He was confident that Taven would lead the heroes to victory, and he'd take on the mantle as Edenia's protector God over Argus. He also informed the evil forces shall march on at dawn.
He rode the Netherwing with Khameleon and was involved in the battle...until they strategized to blend in and disguise themselves as the Pyramid's statues. Fire God Liu Kang then urged them to take him up so he could finish Blaze. They and Liu found the corrupt stragglers, Komodai and Reptile, mauling the two till they were dead! They survived the firestorm and still became protectors of Edenia to this day!
Trivia[]
- Contrary to popular classification, Chameleon in Ikran's fanfics, he is not portrayed taking the side of Shao Kahn as opposed to Khameleon. He stands as a hero, much like his female counterpart, albeit hidden.
