Coconuts (アイアイ Aiai?) is an enemy that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a mass-produced, monkey-based Badnik model created by Dr. Eggman, which throws explosive coconut bombs at their target from palm trees.
In the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog television series, Coconuts is one of the main antagonists in the show, though not appearing as frequently as Scratch or Grounder. Unlike the games, he is one of Dr. Ivo Robotnik's Badniks, but had been demoted to the janitor of the doctor's headquarters. Furious over his low status, his primary goal was to capture Sonic the Hedgehog in hopes of earning a promotion from Robotnik. Whenever he appeared, he would usually attempt to go after Sonic himself and make sure that Scratch and Grounder did not beat him to the punch but would ultimately fail every time.
In the Mean Bean Machine like in the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog animated series, Coconuts was created by Dr. Robotnik to serve as a prominent member of the Super Special Sonic Search and Smash Squad and was tasked with destroying the heroic hedgehog. However, as with many of his older creations, Robotnik eventually abandoned him and his teammates before being repurposed by Mammoth Mogul to worked at his casino. Coconuts became Mammoth Mogul's personal assistant; the kind of position he always strived to obtain while working for Robotnik.
After a reality-altering phenomenon called the Super Genesis Wave, Coconuts' history was changed. In this continuity, He and his teammates were never abandoned, but sold by their creator Dr. Eggman to his former apprentice Breezie the Hedgehog and now work at her casino. Although Coconuts still retains his position as his boss's personal assistant, it is Breezie who now serves as his boss instead of Mammoth Mogul.
