Cosmo, the Spacedog, is a recurring character in the Guardians of the Galaxy film trilogy in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She is a dog that was sent to space by Soviets as part of an experiment, and ended up being captured by The Collector, a man who collects exotic lifeforms through the galaxy, and put in his personal museum. After the Battle of Earth, Cosmo remained on Knowhere to rebuild it and later joined the Guardians of the Galaxy.
She was portrayed by Fred the Dog in Guardians of the Galaxy and was replaced by Slate starting from The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. Since her first speaking role in the Holiday Special, she is voiced by Maria Bakalova.
Cosmo was a soviet dog, that was blasted to space for scientific purposes. She wandered through the space until he was found by a man known as the Collector, who has a museum of rare and exotics objects, creatures and lifeforms he finds through the galaxy, and Cosmo was put there.
Guardians of the Galaxy[]
Cosmo was seen when the Guardians entered the Collector's museum to get info from him about a powerful object that was inside an orb. Cosmo growled to Rocket Raccoon while he passed by her jail, and he growled back. After the Collector's explanation of how the iten inside the orb, knwon as Power Stone, worked, his assistant, Carina, tired of being his slave, grabbed the stone, but couldn't handle the power, and exploded the museum, destroying many of the cages, including Cosmo's, setting him free.
In the post-credits' scene, she is seen licking the Collector while the latter sadly and silently looked at his ruined collection, while being asked by Howard the Duck why did he let Cosmo lick him.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2[]
Cosmo is only seen briefly as a cameo during the end credits of the film.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special[]
While the Guardians of the Galaxy rebuild Knowhere after it was destroyed by Thanos, Cosmo reunited with them and became a member of the team.
In December 2025, Cosmo was working with Rocket Raccoon to rebuild Knowhere using her telekinetic powers, however, she ended up getting frustrated with Rocket and asked for treats to work. Later that night, Cosmo along with the other inhabitants of Knowhere, helped Mantis and Drax the Destroyer decorate their base with Christmas decorations to cheer up Peter Quill which ended up temporarily failing because Quill found out Kevin Bacon was kidnapped.
After Kevin Bacon agreed to sing to cheer up Peter Quill, Cosmo hunted and killed a Orloni and gave it to Kraglin Obfonteri as a Christmas gift. Later, Cosmo and Rocket tried to decorate Groot as if he was a Christmas tree, but Groot ended up moving, dropping all the decorations in the floor, upsetting Cosmo and Rocket.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3[]
Cosmo still resides on Knowhere. After Kraglin trained with the Yaka Arrow but failed to hit his targets, Cosmo uses her telekinetic powers to hit all targets. Kraglin responds by calling her a bad dog, which hurts her very much and she tries to convince him to take it back multiple times, but he continues to call her a bad dog.
When Knowhere is attacked by the Hell Spawn, she saves Kraglin from Behemoth and out of gratitude he finally calls her a good dog. Later, she connects Knowhere to the ship of the High Evolutionary, so that the Guardians can save the Star Children and animals the High Evolutionary experimented on.
She then became a member of the new Guardians led by Rocket.
