Daniel James Cypher is one of the principal protagonists in The Quest for Beasts, as well as in its two direct to video movies, Rise of Babylon and The Quest for Beasts: Hunt for the Lost Eden, as well as the live-action movie and in the video game spinoffs. He is voiced by Jason Marsden in the series, video games and two movies, Sean Marquette young and his singing voice is provided by Nick Lachey of the boy band 98 Degrees in Rise of Babylon and in the live-action version he is portrayed by Taylor Lautner. He also appears in the the 2011 spinoff in which his voice is provided by Yuri Lowenthal. In his animal forms, he is voiced by Frank Welker.
Biography[]
Daniel was born at some point in the 1980s to scientists Dr. William D. Cypher and his wife Dr. Kate Cypher (nee Lewis). Daniel's ancestry is revealed to be Scottish (through his mother) as well as Irish and distant Native American (mostly Shoshone and Iroquois) roots (through his father). His happy childhood was shattered when, during a fight with business mogul Stan Merx in which William scarred his eyes with acid, Daniel's mother and father were killed in an explosion at their lab, while Merx escaped with his goons. Daniel survived and was later taken in by his aunt, Dr. Ann Cypher. At some point, he developed his of being able to communicate with animals (and also the beasts) as well as the power to transform into animals (both living and extinct). Later, in his teens, he and his friends Sonya, Ethan, Michael and Juliana would start travelling the world to protect the beasts from evil and battle many enemies.
Appearance and personality[]
Daniel is a tall, fair-skinned youth with black hair and cyan eyes. He generally sports a solid black T-shirt, blue jeans and brown shoes, possibly DMs. In the final episode, in Sonya's vision, he is depicted as more muscular and sporting a goatee and wearing a beige waistcoat, black fingerless gloves, marching boots and brown pants, an appearance retained in New Generation. Daniel is a kind, brave individual. He is always willing to risk his life for the good of others. It is also implied that he and Sonya have feelings for one another.
