Dawn of the Shadowreavers

Dawn of the Shadowreavers is a crossover fanfiction short written by MarioFan65. It is a crossover between Spyro the Dragon and How to Train Your Dragon. Set after the events of Spyro and Toothless: Defenders of the Realms, it is about Spyro and Hiccup's gang going camping as well finding a strange rare dark dragon species that fright Hiccup through the whole camping trip as the dragon riders tend to help Hiccup on getting away with fear while facing off the fear that tries to lurk them in the night. It was released on March 11, 2023.

Plot[]

(One day at night in the Isle of Berk, Spyro and Hiccup's gang gather around through camp as Gobbler and Tomas tell campfire stories with the gang listening while eating some popcorn and drinking water while listening to the story)

Gobbler: Long ago, there was once a Boneknapper dragon I've met as a kid who thought it was a myth. This odd creature collects the bones of dead dragons and makes itself an unusual coat of armor. It tried to go after the vikings and storm through the village by flaming fire at the houses. When I saw the dragon again as an adult, it attacked dragons and take parts of dead dragon skeletons to defend itself. Afterwards, we give the dragon a piece of bone and became quite docile and playful. We were given a ride home to Berk as the Boneknapper dragon wasn't a threat to Berk after all.
Spyro: Whoa. You were surviving. I thought this Boneknapper dragon can take skeletons out of dead dragons to make a shield.
Hiccup: It was all true in my own eyes. That big fella ain't so bad of a dragon.
Astrid: We were going to be eaten in our fates. But glad we didn't.
Flame: We seen skeletons from our world, but they were undead and we kill them all.
Ember: Don't know if they were human or gnorc. They were still bad on the inside.
Sparx: How can they be bad if they're dead and don't have a soul in them?
Snotlout: You wouldn't expect a soul cursing a undead skeleton and curse them into monsters. You afraid?
Sparx: What? No. I'm not afraid of no undead being.
Sting: Neither is a Shadow Monster.
Fishlegs: Some dragons can be scary like the Red Death we faced years ago.
Tuffnut: How can you be afraid of the Red Death when the Red Death is already dead?
Ruffnut: I would rather be scared of the Green Death can any death dragon that lurk around in the shadows.
Sheila: Think about all the enemies we have faced for years.
Sgt. James Byrd: I mean, we went after rhynocs, then gnorcs, and now, shards.
Bentley: Thought they were crushable as those shadow monsters from the Shadow Realm.
Bartholomew: Eek! Don't remind me of them ever again! They look scary as a spider!
Agent 9: I hate bugs! If I ever see a cockroach or a scorpion crawling on my suit, I'll kill it with my blaster!
Spyro: Relax Agent 9. I have faced worst enemies in my life. Can't tell how many enemies I have to deal with after all these years defending the Dragon Realms. I can tell how many. *get flashbacks of him facing Gnasty Gnorc at Gnorc Gnexus, facing Ripto, Crush and Gulp at Chateau Ripto, facing the Sorceress at her lair, facing Grendor at his lair, facing Red at his lair and facing the Sorcerer at a cave* With all the enemies I taken down, some are escaping and planning a new threat to take down our homes. We'll be ready for that.
Hiccup: Tell me about it. Have there been a enemy I have faced before in my entire life.
Spyro: I don't know. You tell me.
Hiccup: It all started worse by time when I met enemies like Drago. *get flashbacks of him facing the Red Death, facing Drago on his own Bewilderbeast, facing Dagur the Deranged, facing Alvin the Treacherous and facing Heather and her own Razorwhip named Windshear* Boy, almost all of them suck. Heather is alike, at least they're not bad to me.
Tomas: Oh, it's okay to get out of fear and live out with a lot of good luck. You know I'm saying?
Spyro: I get out of fear any time. I don't live with bad news.
Hiccup: Me neither. Even Toothless can get out with the bad news.
Toothless: *hit Hiccup* Hrr.
Hiccup: What?
Tomas: Getting out of fear is one thing to stay away from the nightmares. It'll never haunt you away once you get out of this nightmarish habbit.
Gobbler: After getting away with the fear, you can hang out and eat along with friends again as well surfing with the dragons.
Sparx: How can you surf with the dragons?
Sting: I don't know. Maybe use a surfboard like the otter back at Coastal Remains?
Fishlegs: Who still surf when we got dragons to ride on?
Snotlout: No one use a surfboard in here. Neither a jet ski.
Tuffnut: Is there anything special the Dragon Realms have learned about other then jet skiing?
Spyro: Uh... fishing? That's the Beast Makers motto, I guess?
Ruffnut: I knew they were fishers all along.
Tuffnut: Yeah right! *he and Ruffnut bump each other with helmets*
Ruffnut: Wowie-zowie.
Hiccup: So, any more campfire stories to tell in the dark?
Tomas: Oh yes. We got a lot to tell about for all of you guys sitting.
Gobbler: We got more and oh boy, you're gonna woo your eyes when we tell you something amazing.
Flame: I hope it's not a scary one. I swear if it is a scary one, I'm gonna puke.
Ember: You don't have to be scared of any frightening one when we tell a bedtime story.
Flame: Some can be scary like a cat bat with wings at Skelos Badlands. You know I'm saying?
Ember: You really got some issues.
Spyro: Alright people. Let's sit back and enjoy the backstory.
Toothless: *sit* Heh heh heh.
Sparx: Oh boy. I'm excited.
Sting: What are we gonna talk about tonight?
Tomas: I got a story for you all to tell about the day we formed the Dragon Dojo together.
Gobbler: Oh, is it about the time where you and the dragons formed the realms together?
Tomas: Eh. Before the Sorceress exile us all the way back, we formed the Dragon Realms together. We elders formed the Dragon Kingdom while Nestor and the other dragons form their own lands as the latter was taken over by Gnasty Gnorc in the later years.
Gobbler: I see matey. Our village was formed when we were a dragon-hating army.
Hiccup: Not anymore. Things have changed when I learned how to train dragons and not kill them.
Astrid: All the islands didn't meant to piggy back on your actions, didn't you?
Hiccup: That's all on the leaders.
Tomas: Alright my friends. I am about to tell you the story on how the Dragon Dojo was formed. *see Gobbler snoring* Gobbler? *wake Gobbler up* Stop snoring and falling asleep. I got a story to tell to the youngins.
Gobbler: Oh, right. I thought we were sleeping on a tent.
Tomas: Anyways. *get flashbacks of the dragons living in the Dragon Kingdom with him, Ragnar, Magnus, Titan, Astor, Cho Lei, Red and Old One Horn forming the Dragon Dojo together by using powers to build the place on wood* It all started when the Dragon Kingdom was first built. We used enough power to make homes and businesses for the work economy. Me and the Council of Elders including a friend of mine pave the way of building the dojo for ourselves. When it was first formed, we trained the dragons on learning kata and other magic skills. One of my biggest days yet is getting promoted as a assistant leader until... until... well. *about to wear the medal with everyone until the backstory stop for a second* Uh...
Gobbler: Who? What? When? Where? And Why? What happen next?
Tomas: I was going to reveal what happen next? But I'm tired. When you get old, you take time to tell stories and stop at the moment before you can finish the story to everyone.
Spyro: What? Why? Why couldn't you tell the moment you lead the Dragon Realms with Ragnar and got promoted as a master after his death?
Tomas: I'm old. The older I get, I'm too old to tell stories like these. Telling long stories make me wanna go to sleep.
Hiccup: Oh Tomas. I know you got plenty of time to tell before we can sleep. Telling stories like these in the dark must be a bad time for you when the world is dark.
Spyro: Quit falling asleep and get to the point where you left off.
Tomas: I'm afraid to finish. The aftermath, it all went well. The end. No comment asked.
Astrid: Ugh! You should have tell us more before you could even finish.
Tomas: Let Gobbler take it from here. He can tell another story about something fascinating or shocking.
Gobbler: Oh, I got one. Something I saw from my childhood with Stoick before you guys were born.
Spyro: Before us dragons born a thousand years?
Hiccup: You told us already about the Boneknapper dragon, right?
Gobbler: It's something else. Something about a strange dark dragon that lurk through the night.
Tomas: Like bats and most rodent insects like cockroaches. They're always up in the night when the Sun is down.
Gobbler: That's right. *get flashbacks of him and Stoick camping as kids with the family by eating some meat in the woods and hiking* Long ago, me and Stoick were friends together and we went camping in the woods. The same place we are heading right now, we hunt for fish and other creatures like bears. We ate a lot of meat and fish for fish. Salmon was my favorite type of fish so does everyone else. Stoick wasn't too fond of salmon as he preferred the regular grey fish in his opinion.
Hiccup: That's my dad alright. The kind of regular fish guy he is. Even I gave Toothless a piece of fish the first him I met him. *Toothless hit him* Dude.
Toothless: *sniff* Grr.
Tomas: After all the camping and fishing, what you guys did next?
Gobbler: We went hiking. That's all we did next. *get flashbacks of him and the vikings searching in the trees and spot a rare dark dragon* We were hiking in the woods, searching for new rare dragons to look for. We spotted a dark one. It was like a Night Fury, but even worse. A Shadowreaver!
Hiccup: Shadowreaver?!
Spyro: No way. I thought it was the name of the Shadow Monsters that lurk from the Shadow Realm tell us what happen.
Gobbler: *get flashbacks of him and the vikings going after the Shadowreavers and running off* We were fighting those scary ruthless Shadowreavers. They like to hunt down people at night and eat them for midnight snacks! We have to run off to prevent getting eaten by one of those and never tend to come back far away to the woods ever again if the Shadowreavers return to seek into our village like that.
Hiccup: Ah! They're scary as they look! Don't look away. Turn your back at them and run away if they show up near you!
Spyro: For the love of dragon, will you stop whining. That is all a fairy tale story.
Hiccup: That is more of a bedtime story or a campfire story.
Gobbler: It is a campfire story after all. You have been warned.
Hiccup: Don't say it again! I'm getting goosebumps over this.
Sparx: They're not real. It is all a myth.
Sting: Nothing to be scared of silly over a story of a scary dragon.
Gobbler: They are real. I see them in my own eyes.
Hiccup: *faint* Aw! We're doomed.
Astrid: Oh please. You have the chance to frown on everything once we get home.
Snotlout: Ah! He got you.
Fishlegs: They're not messing with us, are they?
Ruffnut: You saw a real Shadowreaver? We never saw anything like a Shadowreaver before.
Tuffnut: What do they look like in picture?
Gobbler: They're like in the same size of Toothless, the Night Fury. But their wings are long and cover themselves like bats. They're real scary as they look and you should be warned about this.
Tomas: I'm pretty sure they're suppose to look in the same size of a griffin.
Ember: You never seen a Shadowreaver before, haven't you?
Tomas: All I'm guessing they have claws and sharp teeth.
Gobbler: True. They only come out at night when they have the chance to haunt you.
Flame: Anything I've seen worse than a gnorc, rhynoc and Riptoc combined. I'm outta here.
Spyro: Thanks for warning us you guys. The Shadowreavers can be scary as they look.
Hiccup: *get up* We should start hiking right now and get going with the camping trip.
Tomas: Alright. That's enough campfire stories for now and let's get going for the camping hike.
Astrid: *she and everyone get up* Okay. We're on the move.
Flame: I hope the rest of camping is better if it weren't for a Shadowreaver.
Ember: How scary they are?
Gobbler: Ten times the scarier as the Red Death.
Hiccup: *terrified* Zoinks! Now that's even worse than the Red Death!
Astrid: Enough with your drama scare acts! What is wrong with you tonight?!
Hiccup: Uh... nothing. Just a little goosebumps on the top of my head.
Spyro: You're becoming another Hunter right now, huh?
Sparx: At least, Elora and Bianca know how to shut him up when he goof off to everything and wander around like sheep.
Sting: I wonder who's worse? Moneybags or Hunter? It doesn't matter.
Astrid: Alright dragon pets. Let's keep it going and head out to the woods.
Fishlegs: Come on friends. It's camping time! *make the dragons get up*
Stormfly: *spread his wings* Hmm.
Meatlug: *float* Ah.
Hookfang: *get up* Grr.
Barf and Belch: *look around* Gah.
Tomas: That's my team right here.
Gobbler: Come on old lads. We got a camping trip to catch up. *lead the group with Tomas*

(Spyro and Hiccup's gang take a hike through the woods close to Berk as they search around in the trees and pick on rocks to look for treasure)

Spyro: All of this Shadowreaving talk is making me wanna go to sleep now.
Sparx: Not now Spyro! We got a whole camping trip to catch up!
Spyro: What? That whole Shadowreaver myth is stuck on my head now. I can't get it off when I have nightmares like this, especially seeing a bad person through a reflection.
Sparx: You should have gone to sleep earlier before the nightmares star haunting you like bats.
Hiccup: Nothing to worry in the blue, let's just explore some places in the woods and take pictures out of them.
Astrid: We don't even own a camera in Berk.
Hiccup: Ah. The world is not ready for this kind of technology yet.
Ember: Moneybags own a camera. He used to take a lot of pictures with the pigs and idols back at Luau Island.
Flame: I thought that island is more comfortable to take on vacation than at Dragon Shores.
Sting: Is Sunny Beach still a good fit for vacation?
Sparx: I think so.
Sheila: The rocks don't look half bad in the wild.
Sgt. James Byrd: Pretty clever for a rock.
Bentley: The trees doesn't wind when it's not windy.
Bartholomew: It never moves around.
Agent 9: Don't even try to turn back when you're nervous. I warned ya.
Spyro: Ah. Can't hold nothing bad on the quest.
Sparx: It's real good, eh?
Hiccup: No worries. It's all good. *see a shadowreaver in the tree* Uh, guys? Are you seeing what I'm seeing?
Astrid: What Hiccup? What you see in the woods?
Hiccup: It's... it's... it's...
Astrid: Oh, there's nothing to worry. You're just overreacting, thinking you saw some fear in the way.
Hiccup: I saw it in my own eyes! It's true! It's like a living nightmare inside my chest!
Spyro: Have you seen anything, but a living nightmare before in your life?
Hiccup: I saw it! Did you not believe what I just saw?!
Ember: Why do you have to act if a scary dragon come this way to haunt us?
Flame: That whole Shadowreaver myth is just a story by the way. It doesn't even exist.
Hiccup: You know it does. Wait 'til you find out. *hear a thunder sound with a flash of a shadowreaver on the rocks* Ah! Shadowreaver! *crash on the ground*
Astrid: Ugh, Hiccup! Stop beliveing in scary stories and let the fear go!
Hiccup: I know it's real! It's like a death beast just ate a demon and turn into a atrocious monster!
Fishlegs: How scary it is?
Hiccup: Scary as what the Red Death used to look like.
Snotlout: Darn Hiccup, you're crazy!
Ruffnut: Too many stories to tell in the dark. How about that?
Tuffnut: Knock it out sis. You're scaring Hiccup over there.
Hiccup: I've never seen any more fear in my life than looking into a Shadowreaver like an owl!
Sheila: Just let it go and move on.
Sgt. James Byrd: We got a whole camping trip to catch up, mate.
Bentley: No Shadowreaver exist and it was just a bedtime story.
Bartholomew: You haven't seen a yeti with dragon wings, before do you?
Hiccup: Of course not. No.
Agent 9: You're frightenings and overreactings are worse than me. I fear no creature like a rhynoc around here.
Toothless: *try to get Hiccup to get up* Hmm!
Hiccup: *get up* Okay okay. Cut to the chase. I'm not afraid of anything. Just a Shadowreaver to scare through my point of view.
Spyro: Can we just go rather than sitting here, waiting for a Shadowreaver to come and scare you.
Hiccup: Alright! I'll regret it. We'll go without seeing a Shadowreaver.
Spyro: Shadowreavers don't exist. You know that.
Hiccup: I heard. We just have to keep on walking without turning back on fear. *see a shadowreaver on the cave* Eek!
Toothless: *annoyed* Grr.
Spyro: Oh boy. How do we get ourselves stuck into these fright situations?
Sting: It all started by one by trying to ruin our camping experience.
Tomas: What's up with the Hiccup guy?
Gobbler: I don't know. He's acting like he got jacked up in some barber shop lately.
Tomas: Whatever we told him on the story, I hope he get away with that and move on to spending more time on reality.
Gobbler: We'll see about that. *concern*

(The background song "Riptide" by Vance Joy plays as Spyro and Hiccup's gang walk through the woods by hiking on the path. Hiccup search in the bushes as he saw a Shadowreaver and got scared in front of everyone. The gang climb in the rocks and pass by a log bridge with Toothless, Stormfly, Meatlug, Hookfang, Barf and Belch moving the rocks out of the way for the gang to move and walk through the pond as well Spyro torching some fish for everyone to eat as Tomas and Gobbler set up camp there with the Dragon Riders placing the logs down and torch a campfire there to make light. Hiccup stare at the mountain as he saw another Shadowreaver and got shocked by crashing on the ground with Astrid and Spyro being annoyed by Hiccup's fright of Shadowreavers. The background song end as the gang celebrate in camp by eating some fish sticks and chicken tenders together.)

Tomas: Cherish! I brought some chicken tenders from home as you guys are going to love what I prepared for you all.
Gobbler: That's what I call a camping trip. Good night, mate!
Spyro: Yeah! Viva la camp, baby!
Hiccup: Aw, yeah. I think I walked too much today.
Astrid: You been yelling and screaming lately while hiking.
Hiccup: Oh come on. Just because I saw something scary doesn't mean you have to judge me back.
Spyro: Just stay away from fear. That's the motto of the day.
Hiccup: I keep trying, but the fear keep coming back to haunt me.
Astrid: You're not afraid of anything, are you?
Hiccup: Of course not. I'm a man and I'm brave enough to defend myself from creepy crawly creatures.
Fishlegs: When I was a kid, I was scared of dragons, see?
Snotlout: We used to do a lot of silly things as kids. Look what we turn out.
Tuffnut: Courage, smart, genius, and excellent.
Ruffnut: No one want to hire a dumb person in the viking army. Am I right?
Sparx: Not even a gnorc know how to do math right.
Sting: The Professor is the master of mathematics. Anyone agree on that?
Ember: Yes. And he was a professor teacher at a university in Avalar.
Flame: The people back at the Dragon University have been talking a lot about him lately ever since Spyro crashed into Avalar over a vacation at Dragon Shores.
Spyro: Shush it Flame. I always get stuck into these messes as part of my day-off. Do I ever get a day-off, especially from being called to work to ruin my fun free day?
Sheila: I worked as a park ranger when the alp was first formed by goats.
Sgt. James Byrd: The hummingbirds taught me how to fly, despite being raised by them and not penguins like emperors and adelies. Almost all the penguin species can't fly in real life.
Bentley: The neighbors always like to pick on me for being different. This is why I tend to stay away from strangers like bad people.
Bartholomew: You don't know if a person is good or not.
Agent 9: I thought I was the only agent in the lab that know how to shoot lasers like my co-workers.
Tomas: Very funny you guys. The first time the Dragon Dojo was formed, I tried to go to sleep on the first day until the council pulled a prank on me and gave me a mustache.
Gobbler: Ah! Like me! My papa, my grandpapa and all the great ancestors of my dad!
Hiccup: Ha ha. Very funny Gobbler. You know how to make me a joke in front of everyone. I'm going to take a quick walk. *get up and walk off*
Astrid: *follow Hiccup* Hiccup, where are you going?
Hiccup: I need to take a break from all of this gooiness going on. I'm better off walking alone for a while.
Astrid: We need to come with you. We don't know how you're acting like this like seeing something scary in the wild.
Hiccup: *resign* Fine. Everyone come along. We'll hike together to get away with my fears before heading home.
Spyro: Alright. You asked for it. Come on guys. Hiccup need us to cheer him up after all the scary troubles he has been getting. *he and everyone follow Hiccup*
Flame: We know what he has been up to.
Ember: I swear he's going to be scared by some Shadowreaver again as seen from a story told by Gobbler.
Sparx: Wait up guys.
Sting: Gosh, they're always ahead of us.
Tomas: Should we just continue eating and let them follow Hiccup?
Gobbler: Yes. Leave them alone and move on with the stories telling in the dark. *continue eating with Tomas*

(Spyro, Astrid and their friends follow Hiccup through the woods to comfort him after all the fear frights from the Shadowreavers earlier as the Shadowreavers spy on the gang by the trees)

Spyro: Hiccup, Hiccup! I thought we lost you. Are you okay?
Hiccup: Yes. I'm okay. Why are you following me? All of you.
Astrid: We wanted to come so you don't get scared of the frights like the whole Shadowreaver myth Gobbler told us back at Berk.
Hiccup: That's just a campfire story to all of you. To me, it's real. I can feel it.
Flame: I'm not afraid of anything. I get away with the fear.
Ember: Listen, you don't have to be scared of anything particular like an abomination. I was scared that Spyro was never going to return after going to Crocoville Swamp which broke my heart.
Spyro: What did I do wrong when I left for Crocoville Swamp?
Ember: You promise you were never going to come back. We have to part ways as I started hanging out with Bandit back at Cliff Town.
Spyro: This isn't my fault that I have to focus on saving the world from Red spreading dark gems all over the continent.
Ember: You should have done something suspicious before you head out by accident.
Flame: I was trapped in a cave close to Gnasty Gnorc's in which I'm afraid to fight.
Sparx: What's with everyone sharing bad memories in the wild?
Sting: I thought today was suppose to be a good day.
Hiccup: Ugh. What have I done?
Toothless: *hit Hiccup* Hmph!
Hiccup: Dude, I didn't make a fuss on everything.
Astrid: Come on Hiccup, let's go back.
Spyro: We're sleeping over at the tents. *spot a Shadowreaver* Wait, I saw something in fear.
Hiccup: Oh, what is going on with you going into fear? I thought we all have to stay away from fear.
Spyro: You said to stay away from fear too. Say the one who called me out over a Shadowreaver.
Hiccup: I wasn't calling you back! Tomas and Gobbler said the same day about staying away from fear! *encounter the Shadowreavers* Ah! They're real!
Sparx: Shadowreavers!
Sting: Gobbler and Hiccup are right all along! They are real!
Astrid: We're in stranger danger!
Fishlegs: Why do they look mad at us?
Snotlout: Cause they want to eat us. They're predators!
Tuffnut: These guys look tough as facing a rhynoc.
Ruffnut: And I thought they look ugly as a gnorc.
Ember: Gobbler is right! They do exist!
Flame: We're gonna get eaten by all! And there's no way escaping!
Sheila: Hush, Flame. You still act like it's the end of the world after all.
Sgt. James Byrd: I'm ain't scaring off like that.
Bentley: I'll crush them with my club.
Bartholomew: And rocks.
Agent 9: Let me at 'em. You want a piece of me?!
Spyro: We know what to do to fight those creeps back.
Hiccup: Stranger danger. Do not let them move.
Sparx: Why won't we move when they're about to strike at us.
Toothless: *growls and charge at a shadowreaver* Rawr!
Hiccup: I didn't say go!
Spyro: Ugh, now we fight! *he and everyone fight the shadowreavers*
Astrid: *punch and kick a shadowreaver* Back off!
Ember: *shoot at a shadowreaver* Keep shooting!
Flame: I got them supercharged! *supercharge at a shadowreaver*
Sparx: *pick at the shadowreavers by making them bump* Nailed the trick.
Sheila: *kick a shadowreaver* Take a kick with you.
Sgt. James Byrd: *shoot at a shadowreaver* Go back to where you came from!
Bentley: *smash a shadowreaver with his club* Smash smash smash!
Bartholomew: Take that! And this! *throw rocks at a shadowreaver*
Agent 9: *shoot at a shadowreaver* I got a lot of killing to do!
Spyro: Look like I got some things to do! *fight the shadowreavers* Come on, eat some!
Toothless: *blast at the shadowreavers* Grr...
Sting: All together bump! *move to trip over the shadowreavers*
Stormfly: *flame at the shadowreavers* Gah!
Meatlug: *shoot fireballs at the shadowreavers* Heh heh heh.
Hookfang: *roar and slice out the shadowreaver* Rawr!
Barf and Belch: *shoot a puff of bad smell at the shadowreavers* Heh.
Ruffnut: That's our dragons!
Tuffnut: These creeps better leave them all alone before they pick on the wrong dragons.
Hiccup: *hold a knife at the shadowreavers* Okay. This is your last warning. Steady. Stay. Good.
