The December 2011 Virus Outbreak (officially dubbed as the "Radioactive Cannibal Virus") was a real-life mysterious virus outbreak in New England in which an unknown virus caused by exposure to radioactive waste and somewhat similar to rabies, and even some fictional diseases from out of a horror film (such as a zombie virus), had broken out in the region due to a series of nuclear accidents and disasters caused by human error. The first living thing to be infected with the virus was a dog that belonged to Gregory Barson, a 34-year-old man from Tolland, Connecticut. On December 3, 2011, Barson was walking his dog nearby his own neighborhood when he spotted two naive employees that worked for the Sherman Chemical Power Plant & Waste industry that had recently spilled some green radioactive waste on the sidewalk of the street that was unknowingly contaminated with the virus. The spillage was caused by accident, and that the two employees responsible (both brothers), had only been working with the industry company for two months, and wern't as experienced as most people. When Gregory Barson was passing by the scene of the accidental spillage, his dog sniffed the radioactive waste and began licking the hazardous material, since the dog loved to eat random stuff. Barson had then attempted to pull his dog away, and the kept walking. The two employees had apparently failed to warn Gregory Barson about the dangers of his dog devouring radioactive waste, caused they figured that the dog would be not that sick, and would be taken to the vet and be cured of their sickness. Over the next two days, Barson's dog began to become fully infected with the virus from the radioactive waste, and began to act strange rather than feel sick. That Monday, when Barson was leaving for work as a mall santa around the holiday season at the Westfarms Mall in Farmington, Connecticut, his dog was being aggressive and was not letting his owner leave for work. When Barson finally snapped, that's when his dog bit him on the left hand, and therefore passing on the mysterious virus to the dog's owner. During his work day, Barson began to experience the first human symptoms of the virus, such as nausea, headaches, and vomitting. His eventually reported his condition to his boss, the manager of the Westfarms Mall, who told Barson he could be sent home if his short illness became worse. Throughout the day, as kids were continuously sitting on his lap and saying what they wanted for Christmas that year, Barson had never once complained any more about his headaches. Little did he know, the virus passed on to him by his own dog was beginning to spread throughout his body. At around 4:45pm that afternoon, Barson had finally become fully infected with the virus and was beginning to cause chaos all around the mall. He was eventually shot and killed by a security guard at the mall (a police officer of the Farmington P.D.) when the officer tried to stop Barson, who then proceded to try to attack and kill him. Many others inside the mall became infected with the virus as well, and when the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was contacted, the mall was placed under quarantine for five hours.

Known Cases

  • December 5, 2011 in Farmington, Connecticut: At the Westfarms Mall, an employee named Gregory Barson (who was working as a mall santa there around the holiday season) had arrived at work without knowing he had recently become infected as the result of being bitten on his left hand by his own dog at his apartment that morning. His dog had been carrying the virus since he licked up some hazardous radioactive waste off a local street in Tolland, Connecticut just two days earlier that was present there as the result of two chemical power plant employees that had accidently spilled the toxic waste while trying to transfer it on their truck. Later that afternoon, an 8-year-old boy named Bobby Tippot was sitting on Barson's lap and telling him what the boy wanted for Christmas. At that point, Barson was experiencing the final stage of the virus, which was the virus finally attacking his brain and turning him cannibalistic. Beginning to show signs of strange behavior, he told Bobby he wanted him for Christmas, and that if he was his special helper at the North Pole, he could have all the toys he wanted year-round. In order to supposably make that happen, he ordered Bobby to close his eyes and lie down flat on the side of the chair. He then pulled down his fake santa beard, began to rapidly shake his head as the result of officially becoming an infected human, and then began to bite Bobby on the back of his neck. Fearing for his life, Bobby rolled off of the chair after being bitten twice on the back of his neck, and then backed up crawling on the floor as Barson got up and continued to go after Bobby. Other mall employees jumped in to stop Barson, but both ended up getting bitten and infected by the mall santa who was recently suffering from the symptoms of the unknown virus. Barson runs off down the mall after that, but is then stopped by a security guard in the mall, who points his gun at Barson and tells him to freeze and put his hands behind his head as an attempt to arrest him. But when Barson began to charge at the security guard, he ended up getting shot by the mall cop, and falls to the floor and dies from the gunshots as a result. Meanwhile, Bobby Tippot begins to feel ill after being attacked by Barson, and begins to vomit on the floor. His mother pleads for help and asks for someone in the mall to call an ambulance. When the paramedics arrived, they had no idea that they were walking into a danger zone. One of the three paramedics was attacked inside the mall by a female shopper who had become infected with the same virus. The paramedic being attacked told the other two men to keep moving and find the sick 8-year-old boy themselves, so he was left for dead and was soon killed as a result of his flesh being devoured by the infected female shopper. Eventually, Bobby Tippot had turned cannibalistic himself, and started to attack and bite his own mother as she strugged with him as she was laying on the ground. He then ran off and went after the other shoppers, as panic was quickly beginning to spread. When the manager of the mall had realized the situation, the CDC was contacted, and the entire mall was placed under immediate quarantine. There were also some armed men outside holding machine guns in case there were some infected shoppers that made their way outside of the building. When the quarantine was finally lifted at around 11:00pm that night, the only two survivors were the manager and a security guard armed with a pistol.
  • December 8, 2011 in Boston, Massachusetts: While riding on an MBTA bus in the city, a man named Carl Hubert became ill and began vomitting on the bus. As a result, the bus driver had to make an emergency stop, and pulled over to assist the man. Another passenger had even called 9-1-1 with his cell phone, reporting that one of the passengers on the bus was getting sick and had vomitted on the bus. When the bus driver had proceded to help him out, Hubert had turned cannibalistic at that point, and he attacked and infected the bus driver without any warning at all. When a passager on the bus named John Turbeck stood up to Hubert, he was also attacked and infected by him. However, Turbeck managed to escape from the bus and ran right into a nearby bar. Inside the bar, Turbeck had told the bartender to help him out, and that he ran right from a bus where a man became sick and attacked him and the driver. Soon afterwards, Turbeck began to feel ill and vomitted on the floor. As people inside had tried to assist the man, Turbeck had eventually turned cannibalistic and began to attack people inside the bar by devouring their flesh rabidly. Chaos had soon broken out inside the bar, and it ended up like a slaughterhouse. When emergency officials were contacted, the case was reported to the CDC, and the bar was placed under quarantine when they reconized that it was the same exact virus that broke out three days earlier at the Westfarms Mall in Farmington, Connecticut. Unfortunately, no survivors were discovered when the quarantine was lifted later that evening, and there were more than 30 people found dead inside the bar, including a few infected people still alive and were immediately killed by investigators. As for the bus, everyone still inside was either dead or turned cannibalistic as a result of becoming infected with the virus. All of the infected passengers, as well as the infected bus driver who was attacked by Carl Hubert in the first place, were each shot and killed by the local authorites who were on the scene. They discovered the inside of the MBTA bus in a complete mess, with blood, vomit, and devoured dead bodies everywhere. It was later discovered that Carl Hubert had become infected in the first place when he was bitten by an experimental lab rat at a local chemical plant a few hours earlier when he somehow disturbed the cage. Hubert's brother was a lab worker at the chemical plant, and he was visiting his brother at his recent job.
  • December 13, 2011 in Westford, Massachusetts: At the Haystack Observatory weather facility, two employees were doing an experiment with some recently discovered radioactive waste contaminated with the virus, which to the two employees looked like green slime. Thinking that the "green slime" could be used for environmental purposes, the two employees decided to take the green material and add heat to it. So they used a lamp as the sunlight to be exposed onto the material. However, the experiment would have disasterous results. The exposure to heat caused the radioactive waste to puff up very quickly and blow up in a messy explosion that caused part of the radioactive waste to get into their mouthes and into their systems, causing both employees to become infected with the virus. As time passed that afternoon, the two employees began to suffer and wail on the floor as they became ill as the virus had progressed throughout their bodies. Later, another employee came in to check on the two employees that had just been ill without anybody else knowing. He discovered the two employees standing and looking straight at him as the employee had no idea they had recently turned cannibalistic. The two infected employees had eventually attacked and killed him by eating out his flesh, which led another employee to go check on all three of them after no response for minutes. When the employee discovered the two infected employees and the devoured employee, he had reconized the situation as one of the infected employees charged at him as he ran into his office and pulled out his concealed revolver, with the intension to use self-defense. When the armed employee had pointed his gun at one of the two infected employees and told them to back off, the infected employee had continued to walk towards him. That's when he opened fire on the infected employee, killing him. Soon after that, the other infected employee came right from behind him and bit him on his shoulder, thus infecting him with the virus. After hearing the gunshots, yet another employee had also jumped in to assist the revolver owner employee when he saw that he was in trouble and was becoming ill, but that assisting employee was attacked and devoured by the still-living infected employee from the green slime experiment. Hearing the noise of the struggle, an employee named Peter Franklin had entered inside the hallway with a metal pole as being used for a club. By then however, the employee who had owned a revolver had already been turned cannibalistic. Franklin waved his pole at the two infected employees to smack them, but he ended up getting bitten and infected during the fight. The two infected employees had chased Franklin out of the hallway and into the main lobby center where they began to attack the other employees insted. Franklin had then dropped his metal pole and ran right outside, where he began to feel ill and started vomitting in the nearby forest. He disappeared right after that, but was found already infected a month later when it was discovered that he had walked a long distance and was hiding inside a family's basement up north in Epsom, New Hampshire. Meanwhile, back inside Haystack Observatory, chaos and gory violence had broken out as the two infected employees that had chased Peter Franklin out of the building were beginning to attack and prey on the rest of the employees inside the building in a very gruesome way. Eventually, the building was placed under quarantine just like the other cases involving this mysterious virus. And in the end, only a few people had survived.
  • December 15, 2011 in Calendon, Ontario, Canada: This was the first and one of the only two cases from outside of New England, as well as outside of the United States. It all started when a truck driver was driving a truck carrying radioactive waste on a local canadian road to be delivered to a local chemical plant, and while driving the truck, he had realized a traffic signal light almost too late and had pressed down on his gear shifting stick so hard that he actually broke it and lost control of his vehicle. His truck had soon rolled over near a high school football field during a game there, and the radioactive waste had spilled all over the people on the bleachers, causing everyone to become infected with the same virus from the United States and be rushed to the hospital. The accidental epidemic had resulted in a series of incidents and quarantines, and was declared as one of the area's most deadly virus outbreaks in modern history.
  • December 15, 2011 in Madrid, Spain: On the same day as the outbreak in eastern Canada, a spanish-born man named Enrique Valerez, who had carried a weird radioactive egg from the United States as a souvenir, was on an airplane to visit his relatives in Spain for the holiday season. While on the plane, Valerez had squeezed the egg so hard that radioactive waste had squirted out and into his eyes and mouth. He had no idea that this object he found was actually radioactive. When the plane finally landed in Madrid, Valerez had become ill and vomitted into the bathroom of the airport there. He eventually turned cannibalistic and began to cause some serious chaos throughout that part of the city. He was later shot and killed by the local authorities there after hours of struggle with them. In the end, more than a hundred people were either killed or infected as a result of this outbreak case of the american virus.
  • December 20, 2011 in Chelmsford, Massachusetts: At a holiday party for regional organization being celebrated at a local lodge in the town of Chelmsford, one of the main party guests, a lady named Patty Grove, had entered the lodge to decorate for the christmas party. However, she had no idea that she was recently infected with the virus that had caused humans to become ill and eventually turn cannibalistic. The cause of her infection was from getting scratched on her arm at local convenience store by a man in lab coat (who was later identifed as Peter Franklin, the escaped infected employee from the Haystack Observatory case a week earlier). During the party, she had become ill and was about to go home after she was vomitting and coughing up blood. But before that could happen, she had turned cannibalistic as the point of where the virus had gotten to her brain. She began attacking the gift exchange person, an associate for the organization that was hosting the holiday party, and people there had watched in horror as his flesh was being torn out as Patty was devouring him alive. When the situation had finally reached the point of where it was out of control and more people were infected and turned cannibalistic, a man inside the lodge named Mark Smithsan, who was also a pyrotechnic who was addicted to burning things down, had taken out a concealed fire lighter that he had carried and had set the whole building on fire with some water he had spilled out all over the floor also involved and used as his lighting trail. Smithsan had escaped from the building shortly afterwoods and drove off as the flames had scorched the entire lodge. When the fire department had arrived, they had discovered the dead bodies of all the victims. Mark Smithsan was soon tracked down as the cause of the fire and was arrested as a result. He was charged with arson, despite the fact that he was trying to take care of the situation himself and get out alive.
  • January 20, 2012 in Epsom, New Hampshire: On a cold winter's night, Carl Banks and his immediate family were at their house while his brother Tom was visiting him on that Friday night. Little did everybody know, Peter Franklin, the infected employee from the Haystack Observatory in Westford, Massachusetts who had fled after the outbreak there a month earlier, was hiding inside their basement after a long walking distance from Massachusetts. Franklin had been hiding inside their basement for the past month without being spotted by any of the residents that lived in that house. When the family had required some firewood for their fireplace, Carl Banks had went downstairs to the basement to get the firewood and bring it back up. Meanwhile, Franklin was apparently hungry and thought that it was his opportunity to finally get some real food to his morbid desire. And while Banks was inside the basement collecting the firewood, Franklin came up from behind him and devoured the man to death as he screamed in terror. Meanwhile, Carl's 17-year-old son Sam Banks had heard his father's screams and went downstairs to see what was happening. When Sam went downstairs to the basement, he discovered Peter Franklin devouring his father's body. That's when Sam had freaked out and backed away as Franklin had turned towards him and had attacked and only infected him by biting him on his arm. Tom had heard the sound of Sam in danger, so he stepped in to help out his nephew down in the basement. However, he saw that Sam was vomitting and even coughing up blood during the struggle. And as Franklin was looking for him, he instead found his uncle Tom. And that's when he too was attacked and became infected. Eventually the family had been worrying about Carl, Sam, and Tom. And soon after, the three infected persons, Peter Franklin, Sam Banks, and Tom Banks, had came up from the basement and began to charge after the family as they screamed and ran for their lives. Carl's wife Jessica had called 9-1-1 as her daughter Macey was devoured and killed by the infected Peter Franklin, and as the infected Sam Banks was chasing his own little brother Ryan. When police arrived, they had shot and killed all three of the infected people. They also discovered Carl Banks' devoured corpse inside the basement. The scary incident had shocked the remaining family, especially when they found out that a man infected with a mysterious virus had been hiding out inside their basement for the past month without them even knowing.
  • January 31, 2012 in Manchester, New Hampshire: On a cold and hard morning, a secret research center became the scene of another virus outbreak after some infected radioactive waste that was recently re-called was hijacked by some punks who snuck into the local chemical plant to look for something to use for their uncle's experiment on nuclear weapons. However, the experiment failed, and cause the uncle to be infected with the virus. Eventually, he became ill by vomitting and coughing up blood. Which led to his nephews to call for an ambulance to take him to the hospital. Later, he turned cannibalistic and began to attack people inside the building, which led to the research center being placed under quarantine.
  • February 28, 2012 in Milford, Massachusetts: At a mental ward, a man named Michael Haberson, who was locked up inside one of the cells as a mental patient, had become infected with the same mysterious virus after he had found some radioactive waste inside a glass jar stolen from a chemical plant that he believed was "green slime". Although the jar was confiscated when he was first locked up inside the ward, he managed to escape from his cell and steal it right back into his position as soon as he discovered it inside a secret room. During his escape however, he accidently broke the jar and caused the radioactive waste to get on his face and into his mouth. As the virus spread through his body and Haberson became ill, he took refuge in a public bathroom and began vomitting into one of the toilets. When he ran out of the bathroom, the guards had spotted him and continued to pursue him. Once outside, Michael Haberson had turned cannibalistic and began attacking one of the guards chasing after him. Although the other guard tried to inject him with a sleep injection needle, Haberson ran off and was on the loose out in public. When the police became involved, Haberson was tracked down and shot to death.
  • March 14, 2012 in Boston, Massachusetts: A series of generator fires in the Back Bay section of the city had caused a blackout in the area as buildings there had lost power. One of those buildings was a research office and facility lab center. Inside the lab, two employees had arrived there in the building without power to move a barrel of top secret radioactive waste off a table that was being used to test the dangers of the hazardous material that had been recalled about three months earlier after a series of virus outbreaks that was caused and started by the virus-infected radioactive waste. During the lift however, they had fell and spilled the radioactive waste on themselves, causing the two employees to become infected with the virus without them even knowing. Later, they were both at a powerless apartment building to assist a man they knew who lived there and needed the support in a situation like that. Unfortunatly, they began to feel the symptoms of the virus and eventually turned cannibalistic. As a result, they had both attacked people there and were quickly spreading the virus. The CDC became involved after hearing the reports of people inside an apartment building located in the Back Bay section of Boston becoming infected with a strange virus that caused people to have the same violent behavior as the previous cases, had automaticly made the decision to place the building under direct quarantine. One of the victims there was a man who was working there to restore the power to the whole entire apartment building.
  • March 18, 2012 in Augusta, Maine: A local chemical plant in the state's capital city was placed under quarantine by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention after they were receiving reports stating that a zombie-like virus outbreak had occurred after there was an accident of which some infected radioactive waste that was actually going to be used for danger testing had spilled out after the employees lifting it into it's proper shaft had dropped the container and caused the hazardous material to fall out on the floor. An employee without a radiation suit named John Restick, who had worked as the assistant who would write down notes on a clipboard about the material being used, was passing by the accidental mess and ended up slipping and falling right into it. Some of the radioactive waste had gotten into his mouth and eyes, which was plenty enough to infect him. As the other employees were working hard to clean up the radioactive waste, the employees who were lifting the container of radioactive waste had to get him out of the mess and quarantine him as well, since it was discovered that the radioactive waste did get into his system. John began to experience the symptoms of the virus such as vomitting, headaches, and coughing up blood as fellow employees were working real hard to provide medical assistance for him. But as an employee without a radiation suit came in and was helping the ill man out, John had turned cannibalistic and began to have violent behavior. He attacked and bit the employee on his neck as he screamed very loudly. As other employees came in to investigate the screaming, they saw that John Restick had attacked one of the no-suit employees in a violent way. Restick had then ran over towards everyone else and manage to attack and infect two more employees inside the chemical plant building. Then a courageous employee on the scene went running to find a shotgun inside the building and used it to shoot and kill the infected John Restick before he could attack anyone else. However, more trouble and more panic had occurred at the chemical plant as the three other infected employees had also performed some extremely violent behavior against the healthy employees, and pure chaos had broken out. The manager of the chemical plant had contacted the CDC and reported that a virus had broken out and was causing employees to apparently turn into zombie-like creatures. He also stated that the virus had come from radioactive waste that had previous caused similar cases of outbreaks over the past few months after humans had come in contact with the hazardous material. The CDC knew exactly what they were dealing with and had to quarantine and seal off the chemical plant until the situation blew over, so that the virus would not reach out into civilization. In the end, only a few healthy survivors had remained as the quarantine was finally lifted and the rest of the infected humans were shot down and killed.
  • April 15, 2012 in Oxford, Maine: Local authorities were in pursuit of a hijacked truck carrying some radioactive waste containers that were stolen from a disclosed location underneath a chemical plant when two men had made their way through the system and into the secret zone, where they had confiscated all of the cannisters that were kept under protection. The pursuit had finally come to and end when the driver had crashed the truck right into the front entrance of the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Oxford, after he attempted to make a clean getaway there. The impact had caused the containers to drop all onto the floor and spill out all of the radioactive waste everywhere. Ten customers were exposed to the hazardous waste and each had to seek medical attention immediately, not knowing that they were all infected with a lethal virus that had a bizzare and dangerous symptom at the very end. The local hospital where the infected were being treated at became the site of a very dangerous situation when the infected, after having the first few symptoms, began to show some extremely violent behavior towards the doctors, nurses, and visitors inside the hospital. The infection rate had then increased suddenly from 10 people to 120 people, and the virus made it's way outside the hospital and into civilization. The CDC became involved to check out the situation, and that's when they discovered the high mortality rate, as some of their own health officials were being attacked by the infected as well. And so, the Governor of Maine had declared the areas surrounding Oxford under quarantine, with roadblocks for those who try to enter the town of Raymond through the town of Gray. Eventually, as the situation became worse and spun out of control, the area was also declared under martial law, and the Maine National Guard also became involved. One of the major areas affected by the quaratine and martial law was the Poland Spring House located on Route 26 in the town of Poland. As a result, their water had to be shipped from different sources after the building was shut down and became like a war zone. Signs notifying travelers about the quarantine and roadblocks that were in effect were placed on Interstate 95 close to the affected areas. This situation currently remains in effect until further notice.
