Dende (デンデ 'Dende') is a Namekian with a unique gift that allows him to heal others. He is the 108th son of Grand Elder Guru. On Goku's request, Dende becomes the Earth's Guardian in Kami's place. He continues his role as Guardian for the rest of the series, helping the protagonists during their adventures whenever he can.

The Bouncer tetralogy[]
Dende was first seen at the Lookout, as the guardian, when the Dragon Balls were gathered and Shenron was summoned; he was impressed at Ayame's wishes.
In the Yakuza Saga, Dende was still at the Lookout with Mr. Popo and Korin as Krillin, 18, Wong and Dominique escaped to it from the pursuing Yakuza. Krillin asked Dende to check the Shenron statue, and indeed it was justified that the Balls had been used to resurrect Dauragon and multiply the Yakuza! Dende monitored Earth and advised Gotenks and Gohan to defeat Dauragon before the fission, as they must use their Light Ki as one in order to deplete the Dark Ki! They succeeded, and Dende provided the fallen Bouncers with the Sacred Water recovering their minds and having him on healing duties. He also told Ayame her family has passed away from the Yakuza's onslaughts, and he and her friends assured they'll be her new family if she allowed them to.
