Donkey Kong, also shortened to DK, is a fictional ape in the Donkey Kong and Mario video game series, created by Shigeru Miyamoto. Residing on Donkey Kong Island, he first appeared as the title character and antagonist of the eponymous 1981 game by Nintendo, which would spark the Donkey Kong series, notably the Donkey Kong Country platform subseries started with the eponymous 1994 game. Donkey Kong himself would switch from antagonist to protagonist for the rest of the series (although several installments focus on his friends instead, notably Diddy Kong). He is considered one of the most popular and iconic characters in video game history.
Mario, the protagonist of the original 1981 game, went on to become the central character of the Mario franchise; Donkey Kong, now allied with Mario, is often featured as a supporting character in Mario games. He has also been playable in every entry of the Super Smash Bros. crossover fighting series, and occasionally resumed his role as antagonist in the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series started in 2004.
While the 1981 game's Donkey Kong and the series' main Donkey Kong are often considered the same character, the series' canon consider that Cranky Kong, Donkey Kong's grandfather introduced as Cranky in Donkey Kong Country, is the Donkey Kong from the original game, making the series' main Donkey Kong's first canonical appearance to be Donkey Kong Country.
Daemon Rising with a...SMASH![]
DK was seen sleeping soundly inside his treehouse at the Kongo Jungle. Mario tried waking him up but to no avail, as his rival would be ideal for the upcoming Net War. Thanks to an idea made by Capt. Falcon, Zelda, and the 2 Links, they stole some bananas on the Blue Falcon, causing the aroma to awaken him! He was enraged as he chased after the machine and ambushed the group! He was winding up, but Falcon beat him to it! He was stung by a fallen beehive and admitted defeat, and he begged to never have his bananas stolen, putting Mario in dismay. They explained he was chosen by Samus and Master Hand to save the Smash System and the Net from the super virus, Daemon. He accepted, and his Kong clan and Animal Buddies encouraged him at Peach's Castle.
He went with the heroes to Mainframe and decided to take the fight against Dot and her bulky machine gun atop the Principal Office! He was successful on defeating her, even when she beat her before she reached the War Room. Although he had to recover at Samus' ship after he was cut into ribbons by Mouse, thanks to being caught by Fox's Arwing. Overall, Samus and Mewtwo won!
