Earthrealm

In the Mortal Kombat series, Earthrealm is the name that is most frequently used for what humans normally call Earth, which is a rocky planet orbiting the Sun.

Earthrealm is one of many realms that were formed after the Elder Gods shattered the One Being. In the Mortal Kombat universe, Earthrealm has been the target of frequent attempts at conquest, because it is thought to be the jewel of the cosmos and an important universal power node. Because of this, the Elder Gods have appointed a deity to protect the realm from harm. For countless centuries, this task has been entrusted to Raiden, though other gods, such as Fujin, also play a role in this. Furthermore, the Shaolin Temple of the Light was formed to train mortals in martial arts and prepare them to defend their world from evil. More recent organizations such as the reformed Lin Kuei or the Special Forces play a similar role. Earthrealm was nearly destroyed millions of years ago in a war between Shinnok and Raiden, and then verged on the brink of collapse during Shao Kahn's short conquest. After his invasion was foiled, Earthrealm has served as an inspiration to other conquered realms of Outworld. Edenia would later rise up and Nitara's home realm, Vaeternus, would rebel as well.

Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, Part II[]

Of course, this is the main realm in the story, mostly in the Wu Shi Academy, the hidden Kombatant base, Los Angeles, and other places. Aiko was born and raised in Earthrealm, specifically in New Jersey.

It was soon in great peril as it began to merge with Outworld and be destroyed by Kahn and his extermination squads.

It was later destroyed during Aiko's heart meld with Kung Lao; in her dystopian future, several Kombatants didn't survive the invasion thus were turned to revenants and ruled over by Shinnok and Quan Chi. There were also visions of Kahn surviving all the ordeals and indirectly ruling it while the survivors and past selves were getting annihilated.

At first everything seemed bleak as Earthrealm was able to merge with Outworld, resulting in Raiden losing his powers and the Jinsei running out. Until Liu Kang emerged victorious on destroying Shao Kahn as he fell off the Pit III and had his body and soul instantaneously shredded by the rows of giant rotating spikes!! Earthrealm, along with Outworld, was able to restore vitality and allowed all the freed souls to return to their recuperated vessels that were annihilated by the extermination squads. Even Kung Lao's soul returned and the Jinsei, along with Raiden, regained their purity! While the sinister skies had finally dissipated!

The realm was at peace once more, even the restoring Edenia, though Lao and Aiko always had his doubts on another invasion... She soon became a member of the defenders as she trained with the White Lotus Society.

Shinnok's Uprising[]

Earthrealm was still in peace and prosperity, as was Edenia, over the last couple years. Its Champion moved to America to train a newer generation of Shaolin Monks, leaving Lao in charge at the Order of Light. Raiden continued to watch over the realm and decided to recuperate two of the fallen warriors at the Sky Temple. Until he and Fujin sensed sporadic weather! Both brothers warned the heroes that the dark omens of Shinnok have come true as the vengeful Elder God finally escaped the Netherrealm and wreaked havoc onto the heavens!

After thousands of years, when Raiden was successful on sealing Shinnok while losing the Zaterran civilization and encasing the realm into darkness, Shinnok rose for revenge! Raiden ordered Liu, Lao, Kai, Aiko, and Nightwolf to retrieve Earthrealm's warriors before the konflict shall reach their world.

In Shanghai, Sonya was chasing after the last surviving member of the Black Dragons, Jarek! She was then summoned by Jax to head near the Bayan Har Mountains where she reunited with Johnny Cage who has been resurrected by Raiden!! Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Aiko, Sub-Zero, Nightwolf, and Kai met up with her before she generated a portal leading to Edenia.

Days later, Kung Lao requested Sonya to generate a portal leading into Earthrealm from the Edenian Prisons. Thanks to Nightwolf, she did just that and Lao and Aiko help exonerate the prisoners near the Bayan Har Mountains. Lao continued to lead them to the Wu Shi Academy where they can rest and recover till the Netherrealm War was over. Shortly afterwards, the heroes returned with the quarrel won! Raiden ascended to the heavens where the Elder God promoted him within the ranks.

Cyrax also became a new ally to defend Earthrealm, courtesy of the Special Forces. The Jinsei Chamber was able to recuperate Kung Lao and Aiko after having their hearts manipulated by Shinnok, and Raiden summoned several of his warriors for his final farewell... Fujin became the new guardian of Earth, contrary to all the destruction experienced in Aiko's dystopian future! Unlike the previous two tournaments, the role of Champion was only earned by Raiden and Fujin finishing off Shinnok, thus reversing Liu Kang's eternal curse.

Mortal Kombat: Vengeance[]

Earthrealm was under threat once more a year later as Liu Kang was practicing his katas at the Wu Shi Arena when he was suddenly attacked by Shang Tsung and Quan Chi! He was assassinated by the former, while the latter assisted. There was a sporadic, violent lightning storm which turned out to be Raiden retrieving his prodigy's lost soul. Lao, Aiko and Nightwolf were assigned for their mission of vengeance and bring the Deadly Alliance to their downfall!

After about a week, the heroes returned via Nethership powered by Raiden and Fujin as they escorted them home. And Liu Kang's Tomb was built by the Shaolin honoring his death and ascension. Kung Lao placed a candle of incense amongst the others as he prayed for a safe passage, though the ceremony was halted after Nightwolf received terrors as he declared that Onaga was reborn!

Return of the Dragon King[]

Earthrealm was still in peril as Outworld was under attack! Raiden, Fujin, and several Kombatants were unsuccessful. Aiko was still safe within the Academy, much to Lao's relief as he woke up in the Jinsei Chamber. After the lethal battle, Lao wound up in the past, at a small Chinese village back in 1964; Lao and Liu never existed yet, and he watched Shujinko train under Bo's tutelage and start his quest for the Kamidogu. Damashi led him and Lao's astral form throughout the town and the Lin Kuei Temple before he found the Earthrealm Kamidogu and entered the portal to the Nexus. Lao was then halted before the entrance as he spotted Raiden, also in his subconscious; he mentioned it's too surreal to be a dream and he believed that Shujinko may hold the keys in stopping Onaga. Only Lao, Fujin, Nightwolf, Liu, Aiko, Kuai, Frost, and Raiden (by a thread) survived the assault. Fujin then opened a portal for Lao and Liu to warn the Edenians of Onaga's rebirth.

Moments later, Kuai and Kenshi were mourning over the loss of Hanzo by the Soulnado, that was until the blind swordsman picked up some suspicious activity interfering his mind. He followed the source to Liu's Tomb and met up with Aiko who was anxious of Kung Lao's fate. Together, they opened a portal to Outworld where Shang's Palace once stood. Minutes later, that same portal opened from Outworld, particularly the Lost Tomb, as Liu, Kenshi, Aiko, Kitana, Jade, Sindel, Ermac and half the royal guard emerged back at Liu's resting place. Liu had the inclination his grandfather may know of Shujinko so with Ermac's help, he was able to visit him.

In the Temple of Light, he identified him as a tween leaving the small village, though he considered Damashi as a word than a name... It was Japanese for deception! Liu and Ermac hurriedly met up with Hanzo and the unconscious Lao near the ancient portal. With Liu's spirit, he was able to revive Lao from his mind cracking in the Chaosrealm. Ermac sensed immense darkness and followed it to a sudden attack by Raiden who was revived though corrupt from his sacrifice onto Onaga.

The other heroes were assisted by Fujin who teleported them to the Temple of Elements where the last Kamidogu stood! Johnny, still as an undead, was thrown into a prison ditch as they can't find a way to restore him, nor the remaining Special Forces. Li Mei also tagged along, escorted by Fujin, and she came to the conclusion of Aiko's relationship with Lao. She and Kenshi then took the portal back to the Temple of Light where Liu Kang's corpse and Dark Raiden wreaked havoc! Kung Lao thwarted off the zombie while Fujin was unsuccessful dealing with his brother!

It turned out after the resurrection, the evil incarnate was reformed and stole Liu Kang's broken corpse, thus blaring the alarms at Nightwolf's den. He brought it to the destroyed Houan tomb, performed the dark ritual reviving him, and enslaving him with the Houan chains! Shujinko met up with the wrathful God, impatient on defending the realm and making anyone pay with their lives! Thus, he decapitated the false hero by overpowering his mimicry!

Nightwolf abruptly awakened at his tech den with Kiba and remembered Raiden's advice, still weakened in the Jinsei, and he warned Fujin earlier of his doppelganger. He prepared his weapon, the EMP, which disabled Raiden for a minute. Thanks to the rainstorm conjured by his ancestors, Raiden struck his double and sort of merged! He was restored to full health and greeted the monk refugees, Aiko and Kenshi they're in good hands at the Dragon Grotto! Raiden reminded Lao, Liu, Ermac and Hanzo to find the Champions and thwart Onaga once and for all! Raiden regretted the sudden deaths, and he soon teleported himself, Fujin and Nightwolf to the Sky Temple in preparation for the Sin Eater ritual, while he took Aiko and Kenshi back to defend Shinnok's Amulet.

In Articka, Kuai was enlisted by the fugitive demon, Sareena, who was defecting from the Netherrealm; it was a salvage mission solving the predicaments of Noob Saibot. Frost and Smoke went with them. However, since the latter two were tasked to stay in Outworld and defend Nightwolf, Kuai, Sareena and Ashrah ascended from the Netherrealm and emerged back in Earthrealm. Raiden met up with the trio and he tasked Kuai and Sareena to assist the Outworld forces against Onaga while Ashrah shall head to the Jinsei Chamber and hopefully purify revenant Johnny's soul.

In the elemental temple, several spectators cheered for the Champions as they fought Onaga in the Nexus, even the brother Gods and Ashrah in the Sky Temple. By the time the dragon fell, the sacred fountain was crowded with injured bodies. The infantry recuperated first, even with their broken limbs, followed by the former revenant Special Forces, and soon the Champions excepting Havik (who was kicked into the Chaosrealm), Liu and Lao. Nightwolf and the God brothers proceeded the spiritual transition and cleansing on both Shaolin warriors. Lao was the first to awaken as he was only the host for Liu's spirit. Liu was the last as it took the longest to remove the Houan Chains and conjoin his lost soul with his lifeless corpse from the Deadly Alliance. The guys were successful in reviving the Champion, even deeming both Liu and Lao as Champions of Mortal Kombat and the saviors of all realms!

Final Kombat[]

Earthrealm first received the call as Raiden had disturbing visions of Armageddon. Bolts of lightning were seen emanating from the Temple of Light, even cracks of thunder. Liu Kang went to him, and the thunder god unveiled a secret that mortals aren't supposed to know....

Kitana snuck away from her kingdom discreetly and wound up at the Botan Jungle. Taven awakened in Orin's cavern in Earthrealm, much to his confusion, and Orin explained that even his parents' temples were relocated to Earthrealm, thus where his quest began. He soon met up with Kitana and proved to her that he was the real deal. Thanks to a kind scout, she was able to get to the Wu Shi Academy thanks to Frederick's blip spell!

Taven was captured by the new Tekunin formed by Sektor into their warship; however, thanks to the Special Forces, it was shot down and crashlanded in the jungle at South America. Taven soon arrived in the Northern Pole, met up with the Lin Kuei and reached Delia's Temple where he found a suit of armor. He also met Bi-Han who soon reunited with his lost brother. He then wound up at Charred Mountain and infiltrated the Red Dragon caverns, only to have Fujin frozen in time by a mysterious Oriental as he was chasing after Taven. He found out Daegon was awakened prematurely and formed the Red Dragons to kill him and enslave Caro to warp them around the world and into other realms. The base was firebombed, the Black Dragons ambushed the gang, and Kano along with the majority were buried alive and injured.

Hours later, Raiden summoned several of his best fighters to the Dragon Grotto for further discussion, but only Kitana, Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Aiko, Kuai, Frost, Smoke, Hanzo, Kenshi and Frederick arrived instead of Fujin and the Special Forces. By fifteen minutes, they returned from the Netherrealm and the brother gods were in deep discussion of the incident. Frederick was shown around along with Kenshi and Nightwolf while Lao, Aiko and Caro recovered in the Grotto; they discovered Shinnok's been transmitting visions thru their tapped heart gems, even visions of Armageddon, Blaze erasing victims from existence, and haunting visions of the Revenants from her dystopian future.

Raiden and the Kombatants prepared for Armageddon; Lao, Liu, Nightwolf, Aiko, Kai and Frederick participated in the Test Your trials, and the cardiokinetic wound up in last. The scout volunteered to stay as well to never leave her alone while the rest made last-minute prep. Stryker and Kabal reunited with the Special Forces, and everyone was soon underway as soon as they retrieved Aiko's heart gems which were proven successful as the opposite of the accursed Gem of Tetsurri. Raiden met up with Liu and Kitana being intimate in the Grotto, where he suddenly shocked her! Liu was appalled, but he didn't want her to participate; thru the riddles, He must win, and their hearts must be one, the mentor would have Kitana safe and began to merge! Aiko's heart reacted and she went thru the rip to the Grotto where Liu and Raiden merged into one!! He urged Aiko to give her remaining heart gem to him and combined his own into one gem, then he ordered her to give it to Caro as he'd fight Blaze to the end...

Aiko and Frederick were the last Kombatants, and she began to hallucinate with Earthrealm destroying itself in Armageddon. Till she was warped to the Yin Yang Island! Kitana's vessel dissolved with the elder's memories still intact by the heart gem! Aiko was the first to return and passed the news to the Shaolin that Lao and the others shall return excepting Liu and Raiden... They mourned though she assisted fishing at the Yellow River till they saw a silhouette; at first, she thought it was Lao as a revenant, but as the glare subsided, they reunited! Lao was still devastated by their sacrifice as he and Aiko paid respects at Liu's Tomb. Lao gave away the headband, gauntlets and rod before he sank and sobbed... That was until Fire God Liu Kang visited them and said how proud he was for Lao as the new Chosen One and protector along with Fujin. He shall visit them at times when he, Caro and the elder Kitana (the two since the dawn of time) go time hopping! Hanzo and Kenshi continue to watch Takeda grow. Bi-Han and Sareena train at Delia's Temple as he redeems himself. Frost and Kuai settle down and have a kid! Kai becomes Lao's prodigy while Jin grows up, and Cassie and Jacqui were soon born! Ashrah continues to watch over Earth as Goddess of Light. Frederick visits this realm at times as a multiuniverse scout. And Kung Lao is finally engaged with Aiko, soon becoming Jin's guardians!

Kontentment[]

It was unveiled that after Fire God Liu Kang and Kitana restarted history, the realms hadn't been developed. That was until Shang, Nightwolf and Fujin searched for the Krown as they went back to 2008. After Liu went back to the Chaotian Age as he retrieved it, the universe was still in its infancy. Kitana expedited the Hourglass and Edenia was developed as fast as the Order and Chaosrealms, but Earthrealm was only in its beginning stages, thus Liu was unable to use the Jinsei, and to his dismay, Raiden and Fujin never existed. Even when he fast-forwarded to 1492 to the Great Kung Lao's era, the realm was developed but the Gods weren't created.... So, Liu and Kitana restarted history again after his death and Earthrealm was expedited again to the first modern tournament. The rest was history.
