She committed suicide when Norrin Radd was 7 years old. The cause of this was because of the simplistic nature of the Zenn-Lavians lifestyle and troubles with her husband, Jartran. Norrin blamed himself for his mother's death for centuries.

With the help of Virtual Reality, the Surfer was able to obtain forgiveness from his mother and forgiveness to himself, realizing her death was not his fault. But this is not the last time they would see each other again.

During the Infinity Crusade, the Surfer came to near death. He was in a train station on Zenn-La when Elmar and Jartran came to take him to the world of the dead. Elmar told him that is not dead, and he should return to the living world, for it was not his time. This is the choice he made.

When Mephisto finally obtained the Silver Surfer's soul it is revealed that Mephisto is also in the possession of both of his parents, for they both committed suicide. The Surfer fought to free them and succeeded but their spirits left him behind and alone. The Surfer returned to her tombstone on Zenn-La and lit an eternal flame for her.

The Search for Shalla-Bal[]

Elmar was first seen when Reed and Terri visited Zenn-La, putting a stop to Fennan before he should shoot the intruders who claimed they took Shalla-Bal away. Elmar helped Terri gather all the mementos and to give them to her son, as she hasn't seen him since he left to serve Galactus. She also wished to visit Mars someday. Though her premonition was wrong as she claimed Shalla-Bal to be in Zenn-La in its early stages, Planet Xandar, where Firelord was.

Trivia[]

  • Elmar, contrary to the comics, never committed suicide and got her soul claimed by Mephisto. It's possible that Fennan was born from a different sperm donor, maybe having Jartran as too infertile, and as a successor to Norrin while he was the herald of Galactus. She cared so much for Shalla-Bal as a daughter to her.
