Fire Well in MK4/GOLD

Fire Well in MK: Armageddon
The Fire Well is an arena that appears to be surrounded by fire and its walls are decorated with the skeletal remains of defeated warriors. The skulls of some fighters even litter the floor, and hellfire burns endlessly and deeply behind the arena's grates. This arena made its debut in Mortal Kombat 4 and Mortal Kombat Gold. The arena has returned in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon with an updated version of itself.
Overview[]
The skulls that litter the ground can also be used as throwing weapons against your opponent. There appears to be only one entrance from a dark hallway. The Fire Well might be part of the hoary Netherrealm, as hellfire burns endlessly and deeply behind the grates, and the fallen Elder God Shinnok awaits challengers to add to his collection of mutilated bodies. It is where the heroes of Mortal Kombat battled with him in order to save the realms.
A different and also updated version of the same Mortal Kombat 4 arena in which the defenders of Earthrealm did battle with the evil Elder God Shinnok was featured in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. On its bottom level, a conveyor belt which players can utilize as a death trap, operates on each wall with a large wheel at their ends, crushing blocks of stone. Should a kombatant lose sense of their footing and be knocked onto the belt, their life would soon end as their bones are ground into powder. In Mortal Kombat: Armageddon a Hot Poker can be found on the bottom level which can be picked up and used in combat.

Mortal Kombat: Shinnok's Uprising[]
The Fire Well was the final destination for the main heroes Liu Kang, Raiden and Fujin. The Thunder God noticed that after Shinnok's arrival, he dragged Kung Lao and Aiko into the Netherrealm. In his twisted domain, the fallen Elder God began some incantations filling their hearts with pure evil, and warping them upon his words of betrayal, loss, pain, suffering, and how no one would save them if they should become Revenants like in their dystopian future. He awakened the duo as he saw the heroic monk, and he ordered them to take him down! He wasn't alone, though Shinnok disabled the two brothers. Once Kuai and Hanzo restored the real Amulet, Shinnok became powerless and noticed he had the fake one all this time! When the couple became incapacitated, Raiden warped them to the Jinsei Chamber. Shinnok was about to drain Liu Kang's heart and manipulate it until Nightwolf urged his friends to give the former Champion their strength via metaphysics. With their support, Shinnok was pained by his pure essence! With his energy restored, Liu knocked him toward a vast well, but Raiden and Fujin finished him as they forced him down to the massive metallic spikes! The fake Amulet shattered, and his vessel shrunk to a skeleton while his soul remained trapped in the underworld! Before the damned should grow restless, Raiden and Fujin escorted Liu Kang thru a portal returning to Edenia!
Trivia[]
- There was an original sketch of the Fire Well, but it wound up as a sketch in the Krypt and Kontent gallery special features of Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. This concept was later incorporated into what is now the Lava Shrine.
