The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are four unholy, supernatural entities, initially summoned by Moloch, so as to bring about the Apocalypse. They are partially represented by Four White Trees and were written in the Book of Revelations, representing conquest, war, famine and death, riding atop horses that were black, red, pale and white, respectively. All four have appeared in the dream sequence of Ichabod Crane where he is tasked by his wife, Katrina Crane, to stop them from bringing about the Apocalypse. Towards the end of the first season, it has been revealed that each of the Horsemen were once mortal men that have sold their souls over to Moloch, who remade them into what they currently are. Excluding Death, the other three Horsemen still possess their heads, and by the time of the Season One finale, only Death and War have made full appearances (the Horseman of Conquest only appeared in the first season episode John Doe and wasn't seen afterward, and Famine hasn't been encountered yet). It appears that all the Horsemen have some control of heating their weapons, as Death can heat his broadax enough to cauterize wounds and War can ignite his sword. However, this may only be limited to bladed weapons.
Malcolm Dreyfuss had plans to assemble his own Horsemen of the Apocalypse, having chosen Logan MacDonald and Helen Donovan as the new Horsemen of Pestilence and Famine, respectively, and with Abraham Van Brunt and Henry Parish taking back the positions of Horsemen of Death and War. In a discarded alternate timeline, Diana Thomas was turned into the Horseman of War, and in an effort to prevent this from happening, Ichabod Crane took the mantle temporarily before being freed.
Sleepy Hollow, the Missing Episodes[]
All the Horsemen were seen once the Rapture started, and Henry was the first to be reawakened, after his "truce" with Ichabod. First was Henry as he ambushed Ichabod, Chief Falcolor, and Gavin at Highland Falls; he was breaking Gavin's mind as he brainwashed him, retrieving his role as the Battle Hawk of Darkness. Till he was hindered by one of the Onondaga's hawks attacking him, dropping a concealed object. Thinking it was a weapon, Henry ordered Gavin to use it to kill his father, but it was the Holy Cross, much to Henry's nervousness. He dissipated as Gavin used it as a weapon after restoring his mind. Then, Abraham tried to make a sneak attack on Ichabod, but the Cross and Gavin's virtue of Fortitude made an an energy shield deflecting his axe.
After that, the Rapture continued, and Logan/Pestilence stepped up to the plate killing Missy and other innocents. Jake and Alex were ambushed as they came across a contaminated holy water fountain; the super soakers were ineffective, and the team was at Logan's mercy, till Gavin and Jenny struck back by stunning him with a quake stab and holy grenades!
Famine/Helen infected the world, as well as refugees in the Vault, even Team Witness. She was confronted by the team, though her influence was powerful; Lara figured with her virtue of Temperance, they'd stand a chance, and she shed half of her essence to Molly. She was the anchor for six buoys, and she attempted to resist Famine's hallucinations on living a dark future, which only made Lara stronger! Thanks to the golden shields, the Virtues became more powerful, driving Famine away! Gavin was pissed he never took a swipe at her!
Finally, there was Death. Ichabod had a foreshadowing fighting him at the Sleepy Hollow cistern, much like the time looking for the Sword of Methuselah. Henry, as the martyr, informed the stragglers in the church that the Witnesses were destined as the Destroyers, responsible on bringing the Apocalypse! Eventually, the team made it there, and Abraham confronted Ichabod while the group watched him via the vitality of the virtue of Prudence. It darkened and faded as he, and Henry, ganged on him, and killed him almost instantly!! Since his soul was damned, he was carried by a Hellhound to Hell! Henry blew the Horn, after he killed Donnie Wu, and expedited the Rapture.
By the time Team Witness saved Ichabod and escaped Hell, the world was destroyed. Logan informed Henry that his dad survived as his normal self. He declared the rematches, and the first was War! Gavin immediately took the offensive, and noticed he'd been messing up Ichabod's mind from within at the astral trial, with Gavin as a Phoenix Wright impersonator while he was fighting Henry. Eventually, he started to control Gavin, using a replica of Delilah's Dagger to slew Ichabod; he used it on Henry as it pierced thru his avatar!! Jenny used the Cross to make him ascend to Heaven where Katrina was, for the sake of Ichabod.
Pestilence was up against Jake and Alex, which was a losing streak, until Jenny used her Holy Cross and grenades, as his power shall never surpass the Almighty; she remembered Abbie's advice using holy water resisting Pestilence at Roanoke, using the same strategy. Famine consumed Ichabod and Lara, with their battle bond, though they used it to their advantage, fooling Helen before she stabbed them both as they got intimate!
Finally, was Abraham again ambushing Ichabod, but injuring Lara to have the upper hand against the Witnesses functioning as one. Ichabod separated their souls, minimizing his impacts. Two heads were better than one, or rather none, since he sliced off Death's head unawares! His words rattled the group as they'll be resurrected once Lucifer does so. As long as the Devil remains strong, he will!
Visions of Valentines[]
They'd been discussed amongst Sam, Gavin, and Jenny as her camper was heading to DC. They were comparing each incarnate, and Gavin and Jenny theorized that who Sam dealt with was before their enemies in Sleepy Hollow. Ever since before the seals were broken letting Lucifer loose, Jenny was still hospitalized, and Gavin never noticed. Sam had his enemies, Lucifer was released by him and Ruby, and they were sealed back into Hell as Sam used the four rings to open the way as he dove with the fake brother down! The rest was history, till Moloch made his move in 2013 from 2005. Once Ichabod was reawakened, Abraham was too due to blood ties. The trio theorized they were different incarnates of the same Horsemen.
