Jinsei Chamber

The Jinsei Chamber is a stage in the Mortal Kombat series. The arena is located in Earthrealm and houses Earthrealm's life force, the Jinsei, in the most protected chamber of Raiden's Sky Temple.

Dating at the dawn of time, the Jinsei Chamber is the most secure and important space on Raiden's Sky Temple, located at one of its highest buildings and protected by his ward.

On its walls and surroundings, carved by the own hands of the Thunder God, are stony figures that tell the birth of the realms, from the One Being's split with use of the Kamidogu, through Shinnok's betrayal of his fellow Elder Gods, to the modern heroes.

At the heart of the chamber, said to be 'like gazing upon the Elder Gods themselves', is a glowing blue liquid, almost like cold lava - the Jinsei - Earthrealm's life force, that flows through the realm like blood through arteries. This complex substance has unique properties of healing, capable of restoring anyone's health just by being inside the chamber. When needing rejuvenation of his energies, Raiden usually steps into the floating stones around the ethereal Jinsei and meditate inside its core.

During the events of Mortal Kombat X, it's revealed that Shinnok's plan is to poison the Jinsei, a fact that can occur by the mere touch of the fallen Elder God, due to his pure evil essence and corruption. By doing so, Shinnok inverts the Jinsei's life properties and inflicts death and plague through the realm, withering all of its life. The corruption was reversed, but Raiden himself became corrupted during the process.

Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, Part II[]

This was indeed the heart of the Sky Temple, where Raiden had been keeping himself alive during Earth's merger with Outworld. Asgaarth was assigned to be its guardian for the duration to keep it from being invaded and corrupt by Kahn and his extermination squads. Raiden and Nightwolf managed to save as many innocents' souls as possible once the invasion began.

The Dragon Grotto had subtle messages of the Jinsei Chamber, even having a small portion located beneath the Wu Shi Academy, as shown by Kung Jin to Aiko. Later on, Asgarrth was instructed to be Raiden's and the Chamber's personal guard as Earthrealm continued to merge. Moments after that, he took Aiko away from the advancing extermination squads near Kahn's Fortress, then Kung Lao was brutally wounded by Motaro and was taken there to recover, like an emergency service of Earthrealm's defenders. Unfortunately, upon the near completion of the merger, the Jinsei and Raiden were unable to recuperate the poor monk... Its vitality ran out.

Raiden, Aiko and Asgaarth did nothing but watch the lethal battle, until Liu Kang was successful on destroying Shao Kahn in his upmost torture chamber, the Pit III! They were thrilled as the skies cleared and the souls returned to their rightful vessels, even Kung Lao's, as both Earthrealm and Outworld regained life! So too did the Jinsei, as did Raiden which left him just enough power to teleport the Champion out of the collapsing Tower!! Aiko immediately came to Lao's side as he took his first breaths and greeted him with a kiss. Liu arrived and assured he can deal with the everlasting curse, though Raiden assured he'll discuss the matter with the Elder Gods, and they'd be easier to negotiate with. Lao offered to stay in the Jinsei and rest more, relieving his fatigue and aching body. He did just that while Raiden watched over the world and Asgaarth returned to the Edenia ruins. Aiko stayed with him, and they both made a passionate kiss before they slumbered....

Several hours later, Lao and Aiko were escorted back to the Wu Shi Academy and Raiden still remained in the Temple as Earthrealm and Outworld restored themselves.

Mortal Kombat: Shinnok's Uprising[]

Raiden managed to keep Johnny's and Jade's bodies in suspension for a couple years as their bodies were healed from their extensive injuries. They were soon resurrected when he received news from his brother, Fujin, that Shinnok has returned and invaded the heavens! He enlisted Johnny to alert the heroes in Earthrealm, specifically China, while Jade does the same as he'd open a portal to Edenia. She ignored Cage's flirts and still went to find her best friend, Kitana.

The Chamber soon housed to fallen victims of Shinnok manipulating Aiko's and Kung Lao's hearts. After Raiden was able to incapacitate them in the Netherrealm, and with Shinnok's powers disabled, Raiden was able to bring them to safety. Fujin woke up Lao while Raiden was the first one to see upon Aiko's awakening. Liu Kang and Johnny Cage visited the doomed couple as well, till they were ready to head back to China a few days later.

The Return of the Dragon King[]

Raiden was barely hanging by a thread as he recovered there from his lethal onslaught against Onaga. Fujin managed to transport him, Lao, Liu, and Nightwolf there milliseconds before the Thunder God's sacrifice. After Lao was the last to come to, Fujin stated they were fortunate Onaga only found the fake amulet; however, it won't be long before he rebuilds his undead army. Fujin then created a portal to Edenia where he hopes Queen Sindel and her royal guard shall be prepared and strategize against Onaga's destruction.

Raiden was still in his weakened state as he and Fujin sensed the former's doppelganger; Fujin had suspicions as he noticed red lightning from Outworld as he escorted Li Mei to safety. They then discussed as former Elder Gods, like Shinnok, they can make doubles of themselves, although the Wind God refused to do it as it took a lot of vitality. Raiden did just that as he sacrificed himself on Onaga, thus being reformed in Outworld, then merged and wreaked havoc in Earthrealm. Raiden implored Fujin to stop him and his enforcer while Raiden remained; he then implored Nightwolf to activate the EMP and conjure a rainstorm to buy him time to recuperate! He was successful as the storm rejuvenated him, courtesy of the Matokan's ancestors. He soon teleported himself, the injured Fujin and Nightwolf back in preparation for the dangerous Sin Eater ritual.

The monks were held in patrol as they awaited the results of Onaga's battle. While Raiden and Fujin observed the dragon's fight in the Jinsei. The former offered Ashrah to escort Nightwolf out of the Netherrealm when the time comes, and soon the fountain was packed with bodies recuperating quickly. All except Lao and Liu. Nightwolf and Ashrah made it back and the shaman offered to help the spiritual cleansing and transition. The cavern darkened both inside and out as the ethereal glow churned to green with Nightwolf's shamanistic skills. The sky flashed with lightning once the Matokan and gods were deep in the ritual. Minutes later, the Shaolin recovered fully and the Kombatants reunited!

Trivia[]

  • It's quite possible that the Jinsei was inspired by the Lifestream, the Planet's sacred life force, from Final Fantasy VII. Since it was the sacred cave housing Earthrealm's vitality, and it's used for healing properties, fearing that evildoers could harness its purities, it may be based on the Lifestream as well as the holy lands, even if Shinra and the Sephiroth clones should corrode it and make the Planet suffer.
