Kahn Guard, sometimes erroneously known as Defenders, is a squad that protects Kahn from dangers and helps him in battles.
These human-looking soldiers who were native to the realm of Outworld, wore skeletal masks just like their Emperor with his crown. The best of the warriors are known as Champions. Armed soldiers were known as Melee Fighters, Swordsman, Defenders, and as Impalers. General Reiko while still a high-ranking member of the malevolent Brotherhood of Shadow which worshiped the fallen Elder God Shinnok, was originally among those same soldiers and was notorious for his fighting skills and his ruthlessness. Shao Kahn likes that in his soldiers, he sees such ruthlessness in Reiko and even promoted him to be a general of his army.
These war-like soldiers invaded, attacked and conquered other realms including Edenia, Vaeternus, and Zaterra under orders from their mighty Emperor Shao Kahn himself ever since he originally took Outworld from its original ruler, Onaga the Dragon King, many centuries ago.
The ruthless Kahn Guards and their Emperor were later stopped by the god of thunder, Raiden, and his chosen defenders of Earthrealm when they first invaded their homeworld.
A number of Kahn Guards fought and attempted to protect Shao Kahn's Fortress from Taven.
Each of the Extermination Squads which are formed entirely by the Kahn Guards, were trained to not only exterminate Shao Kahn's enemies that opposes him, but also, as warned by the citizens of Outworld, to eliminate every would-be ruler and usurper before they could rise to power.

Ikran's MK Khronology[]
The Kahn Guard were named as the extermination squads consisting of Kahn's malicious forces including his generals. They'd been a major part during Shaolin Monks, Part II when they began their unruly invasion in Earthrealm. Kung Lao, Raiden, Liu Kang and their allies fought them off numerous times, even when they needed to resort to their Animalities as they infiltrated Kahn's Fortress! They began to dwindle once they emerged victorious over their high-ranked generals such as Sheeva and Motaro, even Kahn himself!
In MK: Vengeance, it was mentioned by Queen Sindel that they won over Onaga's undead army whereas Shao poisoned the dragon thus becoming the new, more relentless ruler of Outworld.
In Final Kombat, there were small numbers as Taven ventured thru Kahn's abandoned Fortress.
In Kontentment, Lord Liu Kang and the elder Kitana assisted Argus, his sons, and their guardian dragons to defend Edenia and win over the very first MK tournament. Liu took out the majority of Kahn's generals, including the Emperor!
