Kronika is a character in the Mortal Kombat fighting game series. A Titaness and Keeper of Time, she is the mother of the Elder Gods Shinnok and Cetrion and wishes to restart the timeline after Raiden's disruption of the balance of Good and Evil.
Kronika made her debut in Mortal Kombat 11, serving as the non-playable boss and the main antagonist in the game's Story Mode, while also being an announcer for the game's Arcade. She later serves as a tertiary antagonist in the Aftermath Story Mode expansion.
Kronika is a Titaness, a being of higher ranking than that of an Elder God. She is the Keeper of Time, Architect of the Destiny of the Universe and mother of Shinnok, the Elder God of Death and Corruption, and Cetrion, the Elder Goddess of Life and Virtue. She is also the creator of the immortal artificial construct Geras, a being with the ability to manipulate time on a much smaller scale than Kronika while also wielding power over the Sands of Time, forging rock and stone weapons while using powerful Knuckle Dusters to pummel his opponents into submission.
Due to Raiden's new brutal policy in crushing potential evil forces that threaten Earthrealm, with its apex at the beheading of her own son, Shinnok, she sees it as an imbalance between the forces of good and evil and seeks to force equilibrium by erasing the timeline and rewriting a new one from the very beginning. These events would set in motion her plan to fix the time flow, creating a New Era and leading consequentially to the past merging with the present.
According to Raiden, as the Keeper of Time, Kronika is the only one capable of tampering with the forces of time to the point of present and past to collide and also states that she has restarted the timeline many times in order to find perfection.

Final Kombat[]
While like Cetrion she isn't one of the main characters outright, Shinnok has mentioned them as Raiden, Nightwolf, Aiko, Kung Lao, Frederick and Hanzo had reached him weakened in the Netherrealm. Due to conjuring a dark heart from Aiko's heart gem and absorbing some of Liu's heart purified by Nightwolf in his last battle, he began to recall his lost, corrupt family. As the Keeper of Time and Titaness, with the status more powerful than the Elder Gods and close to the One Being, he stated that his mom separated him from his sister and overheard her ideas on the war between dark and light, so too while manipulating the Pantheon, making him irate and taking revenge onto the Elder Gods, thus his destruction on Earth and being casted into the Netherrealm. Kronika was using her offspring as pawns to war against each other, and being Cetrion was a helpless tool to her will, Shinnok rebelled against her and soon the Elder Gods. He then forgotten of Kronika, just fueled by vengeance, much like Hanzo. Shinnok then believed both his family suffered a fate worse than death, being erased from existence possibly by Blaze....
Raiden and company wondered if it was Kronika, Shinnok's mom, who sent both Aiko and possibly a distant Liu Kang incarnate thru time, since he conveniently made the Red Dragon base explode, save Caro who in turn rescued Aiko, and knew everyone involved in Armageddon. Caro doubted it since she'd be too self-centered and only supportive to her golden child, Cetrion, thus Shinnok's rage.
Kontentment[]
Kronika's fate was recapped by Caro as Aiko listened in. She was first burnt into crystal by Fire God Liu Kang's pyrokinesis at the prehistoric era, although he accidentally shattered her body and her Krown.
She was fought and defeated again only by Shang Tsung, then he took her soul in conjunction with Cetrion's, but it wasn't enough against Fire God Liu Kang's. Since then, she seemed to have faded from existence while her offspring lived on.
Trivia[]
- Kronika may just be the catalyst on changing fate after Armageddon, as she possessed Dark Raiden utilizing the cracking amulet gifted by the Elder Gods with his visions trimmed and altered and haunted by those accursed 3 words, He must...win...! It turned out to be Shao Kahn and she succeeded on severing Raiden with the Chosen One along with several others, only for her son, Shinnok, to invade Earthrealm and brew a civil war in Outworld! Until Shinnok was beheaded thus her direct involvement.
- Kronika may just as well be the inspiration or perhaps the branchild by 3 other time manipulators:
- Ultimecia from Final Fantasy VIII (on account on being the female Big Bad controlling time as well as time merging)
- Daemon from ReBoot's Season 4 (since she's of a higher status against viruses as well as Guardians, was able to manipulate others via infection, controls clock speed especially within the Super Computer, wears an Hourglass necklace before collapsing as a Cron virus, and absorbing her servant's code with Daecon, much as the case with Kronika absorbing Cetrion)
- Solaris from Sonic 06 (as a time traveler and manipulator utilizing instant kill time portals and combining time periods, and as a lame concept and final boss like Kronika was)
