Kronika's crown Juan-novelletto

Kronika's Crown is an ancient relic and focal point of immense temporal magic created and wielded by the Keeper of Time, the Titan Kronika. It is one of her most valuable tools, as it serves to nourish her with all the souls ever gathered by the wicked sorcerer Shang Tsung and is the key to controlling her Hourglass.

Mortal Kombat 11[]

Kronika crown

Her crown functions as a control mechanism of her Hourglass and is powered by the countless thousands upon thousands of souls consumed by Shang Tsung, each soul bolstering Kronika's already impressive temporal abilities. Though no doubt one of her most necessary and important items for her timeline shaping craft, Kronika does not directly wear or utilize the crown until she is nearly ready to undo the current timeline and begin crafting a New Era. Instead, she leaves the crown on Shang Tsung's Island, where it absorbs all the souls ever consumed by the sorcerer in his own private Well of Souls.

In the events of Mortal Kombat 11, Kronika dispatches the shadow Wraith Noob Saibot to protect the crown as it absorbs Shang Tsung's souls, and after he is defeated by Jacqui Briggs and the past Jax Briggs, the present version of Jax comes to collect the crown, having been promised a life in the New Era where he was never a revenant and suffered deep traumas as a slave of Quan Chi. After a fight between the past and present versions of Jax, the present version is defeated, so Kronika dispatches her daughter, the Elder God Cetrion to retrieve the crown.

While Jacqui and the past Jax themselves lacked the power to defeat the Elder Goddess, one of them utilizes Kronika's own crown to draw strength from its immense magic to even the playing field. This allows them to defeat Cetrion, but she forces the past Jax to turn the crown over to his present counterpart by holding Jacqui hostage.

Kronika wears the crown once it is delivered to her and begins preparations to undo the current timeline. When the thunder god's, Raiden's. forces besiege her Keep, and Raiden makes the mortal Liu Kang into a Fire God by imbuing him with his divine power, Kronika wears the crown during her final battle against Fire God Liu Kang at the dawn of time. When she is defeated, her body and the crown turn to glass, which is shattered by Liu Kang, destroying the Titan and her crown.

Aftermath[]

This would not be the end of the crown, however. A time displaced Shang Tsung appears just as Fire God Liu Kang and the now mortal Raiden are preparing to create a New Era. The sorcerer claims without the crown, Liu Kang cannot control the Hourglass, and devises a plan to send himself, the past version of Nightwolf, and Raiden's fellow god, Fujin, back to an earlier point in time to retrieve the crown before it was destroyed. After the crown is retrieved from the well of souls in Shang Tsung's Island and delivered to Raiden, Kronika arrives and reveals that the crown was of Shang Tsung's design.

Ikran's Mortal Kombat Khronology[]

Since the dawn of time, Kronika was still the mighty titaness in which the Elder Gods blindly follow, even her golden child, Cetrion; Shinnok was the only one opposing and resisting the pantheon's jurisdiction thus his fatal conflict which led to Earthrealm's demise and banishment to the Netherrealm. The balance between life and death was intact, even during Armageddon and when Raiden sent a message to his past self to the first tournament. Kronika still wore her crown, however, after Shinnok was beheaded by Raiden after the Revenant invasion, she and Cetrion acted accordingly by erasing Raiden from history. By Shang's surrender in the first tournament, Kronika hid her crown on his abandoned island, until the events of Mortal Kombat 11 and Aftermath unfolded.

After Liu defeated Shang and retrieved the Krown, he rewound the Hourglass to the dawn of time, where his partner, Kitana, awaited. They received word from Shang, Nightwolf, and Fujin after he sped up time to develop the realms and when Earthrealm, Edenia and Raiden were restored. It was likely Shang traced the Krown from the Well of Souls, thus them intervening. By the time Liu became the new Keeper of Time and utilized the Hourglass, his strength weakened to the point on intense fatigue... He was able to reunite with Kitana but collapsed and implored her to wake him up after the realms'd be created. She was unable to warn him of the war between the Elder Gods and the One Being... The Krown stayed safely upon the meteorite with the Hourglass after she desperately wielded it and dragged Liu to Edenia for recovery.

By the time his strength returned, while still lacking worship from the pantheon's energy, and with his friends gone, Liu used the Crown to speed up time. He began to get attached to the Edenians upon his recuperation, until he noticed Outworld first invading it. After his victory over Kahn, his strength was restored fully as he received support from the Edenians and the pantheon! The latter granted him his request to bestow Kitana as a full goddess, even tying the knot! He then used the Krown to rewind to the dawn of time, to the meteorite where it all began, and became intimate. With their worth and restored strength, Liu wielded the Krown to the first Earthrealm tournament when he trained the Great Kung Lao. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough as he won over Shang, then Goro, when he succumbed to his severe injuries... Heartbroken...Liu undid everything and never intervened, although he and Kitana continued to watch the realms thru the Hourglass.

Soon afterwards, after Shang's Island got decimalized, Liu built his home turf on Yin Yang Island where he stored the Hourglass and Krown.

At one point after Aiko was born, it tugged a memory in Liu. He sped up the Hourglass to her dystopian future after watching her for several years and foresaw himself as a Revenant. She was desperate on killing them all with an abandoned automobile after she lost her refugee leader, until Liu used the Krown to instantly transport her 16 years into the past! He then wielded it again and accidentally wound up 500 years into the future when Baraka was in an Era ruled by Kano and took him back to before the heroes found the Deadly Alliance as he was looking for his comrade, Reptile.

During the Onaga war, Liu sent both Raiden's and Lao's subconsciousness to 1964, when Shujinko started his journey on following Damashi and collecting the Kamidogu to find the answers on restoring all the realms.

By the time Armageddon came to pass, Liu had his confidence restored and used both the Krown and Hourglass to travel thru time freely with Kitana and Caro! At times, he'd train the dragon as the new Keeper of Time to protect the Krown and Hourglass while the elders are away. It's likely he reverted time to staunch Caro's aging after eons of looking over the unanimated Daegon as well as his enslavement.

Months afterwards, Fire God Liu Kang escorted Aiko and Kung Lao to Yin Yang Island as he wanted to show them the connections with the Makeba and the aboriginals of Earth. Wearing the Krown, he activated the eye of the Hourglass as the trio watched the world take shape and evolve with Pangea splitting up and the inhabitants taking in its center and the left portions soon to be Africa and the Americas. He then shifted it to 1991 when the young Aiko became entranced as a few of the events happened in real-time before being televised such as the African dance and the Montanna trip, then it shifted to her growing up and encountering different forms of media with the same effect as before. Liu then rewound back eons to trace her lineage until he followed to her numerous ancestors from European nationality and even...Matokan after they occupied the colonies! Although, thankfully, they weren't being mutilated as Aiko often felt regretful on what they went thru... Liu came to the conclusion that Aiko's lineage was the connection, and she must embrace it as a part of herself.

Trivia[]

  • In Ikran's timeline, 11 and Aftermath already took place. Kronika and the Krown had been decimated by Liu Kang in the prehistoric era, then she and the Krown existed as Shang, Fujin and Nightwolf went back to the unaltered 2008 to retrieve it. With these discrepancies, it's likely that Kronika manipulated the Elder Gods and allowed Shinnok and Cetrion to still exist after Liu sped up time to the first modern tournament, as he erased his past deeds when the Great Kung Lao died.
