Kuja is the main antagonist of Final Fantasy IX. He operates behind the scenes, at first working in Queen Brahne of Alexandria's shadow. He wishes to acquire the power of the eidolons to come to rule Gaia. He is a powerful sorcerer who rides a silver dragon.

Kuja speaks in metaphors, referring to Garnet as a "canary" and Brahne as "the elephant-lady". His refined nature juxtaposes his role as a sadistic war-bringer. Kuja loves luxury, as evidenced by his home at Desert Palace and spending time in the nobles' district in Treno.

Kuja is a warrior of Chaos in Dissidia Final Fantasy and Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy, serving as the antagonist representing Final Fantasy IX. With porcelain skin and long, silver hair, he has an elegant appearance that belies a cruel, narcissistic, and envious nature. He fights using graceful spells that are as much style as substance.

In Dissidia Final Fantasy, the other antagonists look down on Kuja due to his relative youth and inexperience as newly summoned warrior, but he considers them "animals" and strives to prove himself their superior. Unable to understand the bond his rival, Zidane, shares with Squall and Bartz, he lays traps to test Zidane's resolve and separate him from his friends. In Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy, Kuja's storyline is slightly redone, establishing him as an unwilling warrior of Chaos who has been through several cycles of the war. On amicable terms with Zidane, Kuja attempts to aid him and his comrades in the twelfth cycle, but due to Kefka's manipulations, Kuja's mind was implanted with false memories upon his awakening in the thirteenth cycle, causing his animosity towards Zidane to resurface in Dissidia Final Fantasy.

Body of Dark, Heart of Light[]

Kuja was the main antagonist in this fic. He saw a mysterious Paladin who had no idea who he was as he was wandering aimlessly at the World of Darkness. Kuja introduced himself though Cecil had no idea who Chaos/Cosmos are, nor knew what the eternal conflict was about. He then challenged Cecil to see what he's capable of, and he easily won over him. He was very intrigued on his dual capabilities, mostly on his strength drawing from his malice as a Dark Knight. With that, Kuja was able to manipulate him and make him his own puppet only serving for him. Cecil obliged.

Later on, Kuja, with his puppet, spotted Kain and Yuna at the Lunar Subterrane. He attacked the duo and stood by as the Dark Knight's assistant, while Yuna was Kain's. He even used a Tiamut summonstone to make it an even playing ground. Luckily, the Dragoon emerged victorious, and the dastard bard fled leaving Cecil to succumb to more of his darkness, till he passed out and was revived by Cosmos.

Finally, he was at the Crystal World, having a depressing soliloquy, till Cecil appeared and challenged to defeat him and Chaos. Kuja just laughed it off, as he was too weak using his umbrakinesis. So he shown him the small Dark Crystal the God of Discord gave to him. It was implied that Kuja's the weakest and most reckless pawn he has recruited, so he decided to give him a leg up. Cecil succumbed to the Crystal again, and transformed into a maniacal Dark Knight once more. He ordered him to kill Firion who decided to intervene, though the weaponmaster was powerless. To Kuja's surprise, as Cecil's friends echoed in his mind, he reverted back to his normal self. He fired upon his pathetic excuses on having friends and a purpose, and activated his Trance form. Cecil learned to heal, and he realized he must use both forms to win over evil! He did just that, and he won over the Genome!

As he faded away, Cecil reminded that having friends and something to fight for would help anyone prevail.

Ikran's F-Zero timeline[]

Back in 1800, at the Planet Gaia, Kuja nearly ruled all with an iron fist and the Mist! He traveled to his homeworld, Terra, and assassinator his creator, Garland. He destroyed the world, though several of his kind, the Genomes along with Zidane, escaped to Gaia. Thus, centuries later, they adapted in other planets, including Nintae, specifically Port Town where they inhabited the distant treehouse isles.
