Lightning is an area where the climate was once calm, but the air pollution created a perpetual lightning zone. This extreme air pollution continues to destroy the ozone layer. Now the frequent bolts of electricity which hammer down from the sky are harnessed and put to use by innovative power companies. The total power generated in the efficient recycling facilities exceeds 10 million gigawatts. The output is so great, in fact, that Lightning now exports its excess power to neighboring planets.

Lightning was first encountered as Falcon received an alert from a newsbreak of Black Shadow wreaking havoc. He was on hot foot heading there after he dealt with the Bloody Chain on the Big Blue highway, with Tinsel and the Duelists behind him. They arrived at an exploding powerplant, and John Tanaka pleaded for Falcon to save Jody Summer trapped inside. Yugi turned into Yami and used his Egyptian God Card, Slifer the Sky Dragon! It helped clear the way as the Blue Falcon escaped! Then the quartet dealt with Black Shadow and Falcon's clone, Blood Falcon! From the ambush, the trio immediately chased after the hapless machine, excepting Joey who was on his Red-Eyes determined to dismantle the speed-sensitive bomb! They both got washed up thanks to a convenient crane hook! The trio hurriedly skeddadled before they'd be struck!
Over a year later, the GPL Championship scheduled the Thunder Road as the Final Round! Rick, Falcon, Tinsel and Gomar & Shioh were enlisted there, along with very little help from Goroh who had his hands full by Guster! Blood, Miss Killer, and Black nearly won, although there was a split victory between Rick and Black, as he activated two Black Fires rendering Rick unconscious. He was then taken up to Dark Star while the Falcon Flyer followed.
