Lightning, born Claire Farron, is the main protagonist of Final Fantasy XIII and the central character of the Lightning Saga. She is the narrator and a temporary playable character in Final Fantasy XIII-2 and returns as the protagonist and only directly playable character in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.
In Final Fantasy XIII, Lightning seeks to save her younger sister Serah but becomes entangled in a plot that endangers Cocoon, her homeworld. In Final Fantasy XIII-2, Lightning serves as a knight protecting the goddess Etro from her fated rival, Caius Ballad. In the concluding tale, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, the god Bhunivelze chooses Lightning to be a savior, tasked to save the people's souls before the end of the world.
Lightning is the second primary female protagonist in a mainstream numbered Final Fantasy game, with Terra Branford from Final Fantasy VI generally accepted as being the first.

Lightning chastised Cecil's inexperience as well as his abilities to control his umbrakinesis. She was also with Squall as he snuck out of Order's Sanctuary while they were patrolling the premises.
Dissidia Shadowgate[]
Much like Laguna, Yuna, Vaan, Tifa and one of her archrivals, Kain, she too fell against the Manikins as they closed the Rift. They've all reached Purgatory and wound up at Stormhaven Castle. Moments later, the 9 remaining Cosmos warriors shown up, and she reunited with each of them, especially Firion. They were a close dynamic during this fic. She admired the weapon master as a strong leader, better than that "fairy tale," the Warrior. She hasn't been seen often, and she does tend to criticize the team whenever they seem to be slacking off; especially to Vaan who had been goofing off collecting rocks and spheres. She did retain her deeper memories before the fight against the warlock, including completing her Focus and getting crystalized or seeing her sister, Serah, before her inescapable fate. She even discussed with Firion of their own forgotten pasts. He remembered about the wild rose, as a password and name to the rebellion against Emperor Mateus and the Palamecian army. She too remembered that rose as it reminded her of rose petals dancing in the air, as it was a wedding for her and Snow! That made her appreciate and miss her sister greatly and return home if she can. She and Firion were the last couple soldiers as they entered the warlock's lair and summon the Behemoth, as well as being the last ones standing! They even held hands before they were at Death's door thanks to the fatal Quasar spell the hybrid used!
Firion was the first to come to and then finished the Behemoth off! Thanks to the spheres and the diamond ring the warriors found, which were Crystals that solidified from Cosmos' essence, they revived her, Laguna, Vaan, Kain, Yuna, and Tifa, while the other 9 warriors were revived by their Crystals. She helped the group escape as the keep collapsed thanks to her Teleport ability. Then, she said a heartfelt farewell to Firion. And since she was able to retain her lost memories, she offered Firion to hold onto it, for both their sakes and to achieve his dream. She shall see him in his dreams...
She wound up at the surface world, Pulse, and there was a crystalized trail leading to the descending Cocoon. Thanks to Cosmos as she fulfilled the last battle, she was able to escape crystallization, even Serah!! She thanked the "goddess" though Fang and Vanille were the only ones still petrified.
