Synopsis[]

Luz holds a séance hoping to meet Camila Noceda, her birth mother; Lilith spends time reconnecting with an old friend.

Plot[]

Back at the Covention, after Eda and Luz left. "You really embarrassed yourself and my reputation for not showing up," Lilith scolded the young Blight. "I-I'm sorry, Ms. Lilith," Amity stammered nervously, feeling ashamed for not showing up to the witch's duel, all because of the mugger she saw here. Lilith sighed, realizing that she was being a little too harsh on the girl. "Don't apologize to me, my student," she said, while caressing Amity's hair gently. "You still have potential. I'm willing to forgive you with the right motivation." "W-What do you mean?" Amity asked, looking up to her mentor and godmother. "It's simple, my student," Lilith told her while escorting her to another room where they could have some privacy. "If you wish to make up for the embarrassment, I need you to do something for me. It's about that human girl you're tutoring, Luz." "What… what about her?" Amity asked. "I was very surprised to learn of her and now I need to know more," Lilith explained. "Especially since I am concerned about what Edalyn has been doing with her, since my sister is a wild witch who refuses to join a coven." She looked at Amity. "And that's where you come in." "M-Me?" Amity's eyes widened. "Yes, I need you to keep an eye on them, then report back to me on everything you see, hear, or learn while you're at the Owl House tutoring Luz," Lilith told her. "Are you asking me to… spy on them?" Amity asked, sounding shocked. "Oh don't think of it like that, dear," Lilith reassured. "Just think of it as you helping me check in on the well being of my sister and niece, since I can't do it myself thanks to my current… relationship with Edalyn. My sister also has a condition that makes me very worried about the safety of a human child in her care, so you can help me figure out if Luz is in danger from her mother by telling me what goes on in that home of theirs. And with the information that you give me, I might be able to reach out to my sister and her daughter. Maybe even finally convince the former to join the covens. Do this for me and I can more easily ensure your future in the Emperor's Coven. Of course, you don't have to do this if you don't want to and I won't pressure you. It is your choice." Amity was conflicted. Her mentor and godmother, whose approval meant everything to Amity, was giving her a chance to prove her worth. She didn't want to spy on anyone, but if it would help earn her a place in the Emperor's Coven at Lilith's side… "And no one will get hurt, right?" Amity asked hesitantly. "I do not intend to hurt either Edalyn or Luz, if that is what you're asking," Lilith answered. "This is for their benefit as well. They may not want the help I can give them right now, but they do need it. Don't worry, Amity. You won't just be doing me a favor. You'll be doing them one as well, even if they won't see it that way at the moment." Amity nodded. "Alright… I guess I can do that, Ms. Lilith." "Good, and it can be our little secret," Lilith said, patting Amity on the head. "This also means that we will be seeing a lot more of each other in the future…" Amity stood in front of Lilith, looking down while she sighed. "There's… nothing to report today," she mutters. "Me and Luz didn't talk much, we were too busy with our own things." "I see," Lilith replied. "What about Eda?" "Well, she did defeat a Greater Basilisk that invaded our school," Amity stated. "Are you alright?" Lilith asked out of concern. "I'm fine, the Greater Basilisk wasn't anywhere near me when it happened," Amity answered and Lilith sighed in relief. "Luckily my sister was there, there have been reports of Greater Basilisk attacks from Glandus and St. Epiderm. Though they are supposed to be extinct," Lilith noted. "So you have nothing else to share?" "Okay, there is one more thing…" "What?" Lilith asked. "Luz wants me over, since she is having a séance where she is trying to contact the spirit of her birth mother and she told me that she would like having me with her when it happens," Amity explained. "And I'm… not sure. I want to be there for her, but things have been so awkward since the kiss and I feel bad about keeping our… agreement a secret from her." Lilith sighed. "Look Amity, I need your help more than ever because of Luz's condition. I know this may be getting harder for you, but it is the best way that you can help her. Though for the time being, I think you should stay home. I don't want you compromised, so I would suggest you take some time to clear your head and get your mind on the right track. Do you understand?" "Yes, Ms. Lilith," Amity replied and Lilith raised her chin up. "I'm only doing what's best for you," Lilith told her. "I care about your well being too much to watch you fail. I would stay, but I have a coven head council meeting today and I would prefer to get there before Eberwolf ends up eating our report papers again. Don't worry, I will reach out to you again soon." She patted Amity's head before leaving Amity with her own thoughts. In the Owl House, Eda helped out Barcus, Jerbo and Viney in setting up the incantation circle for the séance. "Dead leaves from the glander orchids," Jerbo said while following the instructions Barcus has written down. "The black sands of the dark desert, and Mama Odie's spirit serum." He poured these ingredients in the cauldron for Barcus to stir up. Viney lit the sage around the living room while Eda drew the circle. "Thanks for helping us, Ms. Clawthorne," Viney said. "Hey, anything for my kid to meet her birth mother," Eda replied as she managed to draw the incantation circle on the floor with a piece of glowing white chalk. At the center of the circle was a crystal ball and three candles. "Besides, I've always been curious about her as well and what she would think of me." "She would probably think you're a good mom," Viney told her. "Well, Julia did tell me something like that," Eda said before sighing. "But I'm not sure if Luz's birth mom would approve of the lifestyle she got from me." "You mean being Hexside's number one delinquent witch?" Jerbo asked and everyone turned to give him a look. "Yeah, that's not helping. Sorry." "Alright, I think I'm ready," Luz said as she stepped out, her hair now pulled into a spiky ponytail. "Ponytail, eh?" Eda asked. "Well, I do need to look good if I am going to meet my mom," Luz said before Hooty opened the front door and she saw who was being set in. "Gus and… Willow?" "Hey, Luz!" Gus greeted as he looked around. "Oh boy, looks like you've got everything set up!" "Yeah," Luz said, before awkwardly looking at Willow. "I, um… didn't expect you to come." "When Gus told me about the séance, I knew that you needed me and that I had to come," Willow responded with a heartwarming smile. "You're going to meet your birth mother from the spirit world and it wouldn't be right if I wasn't here to offer emotional support if you needed it, even if it's been a while since we've… last talked." Luz smiled, glad that Willow was here and talking to her. "Thanks, Willow-Wisp. I appreciate it." Of course, there was someone else that Luz was hoping to show up. But she would understand perfectly if Amity wasn't able to make it… "And until you've learned your lesson about sneaking out, your scroll privileges will be withheld, understand?" Amity looked down after her mother gave her a scolding. "Yes, ma'am," she said as she was dismissed. Her father looked at her in concern, while Odalia watched sternly as Amity left. As she walked down the hallway toward her bedroom, Amity heard someone call her name and she turned around to see Lilith there. Knowing what Lilith wanted, Amity followed her into a guest room that Lilith had decorated to her liking. Recently Lilith had been spending more time in the manor and she had even started spending the night here. Odalia had no complaints, since she thought it meant that Amity's tutelage under Lilith was getting more serious. Once closed the door, she faced Lilith. "Just so you know, I-I didn't plan on spending the night in the Owl House," Amity told her. "I know you want an update on Eda and Luz, but-" "Why did you sneak out?" Lilith asked. "Right now, my sister's activities don't take priority over why you thought sneaking out in the middle of the night was a good idea. You could've been hurt, kidnapped, or worse! You could been mugged!" Amity flinched, looking down at the floor in fear. Lilith noticed this and she sighed, calming down. "Do you want to tell me something?" Amity thought about how Eda figured out that she was a mugging victim and she sighed. "I… I went to… look for muggers," she admitted, to the surprise of Lilith. "I thought that… if I confronted them and… beat them, I'd feel better… I also…" She looked uncomfortable. "I brought a knife with me in case they… they…" "Amity…" Lilith said, putting her hands on Amity's shoulders. "...They mugged me, Lilith," a shaken Amity admitted, tears leaking from her eyes. "They made me feel so powerless and I didn't tell my parents or my siblings because if they knew I had let myself…" She was shocked when she felt Lilith embrace her. "It's okay to cry, dear," Lilith told her in a hush tone, rubbing the youngest Blight's hair. "I am so sorry that you went through that." "You… you don't think I'm weak?" Amity asked her. "Never," Lilith told her genuinely. "Don't ever think of yourself as weak. But what matters is that you're safe, Amity. I could never live with myself if something happened to my goddaughter." She held onto Amity, who buried her face in Lilith's shoulder and began to cry her eyes out. Amity was in her room, reading the books she got from the human world. The one she was currently reading was about a girl who found herself in the castle of a beast that she did not get along with initially before they grew to care about and love each other. "Kinda reminds me of me and Luz," Amity said to herself, thinking about the séance Luz is having and wondering if she should go despite what Lilith said. Someone knocked on the door and Amity looked up from her book. "Come in." The door opened and Edric strode into the room. "Hey, Mittens!" "Oh, hey Ed. What do you want?" "I just wanted to see how you were doing," Edric answered and Amity looked at him suspiciously. "What? Can't an older brother check on his baby sister out of the goodness of his heart? Besides, I didn't want to disturb Emira. She's doing her own thing with her shrine… So, uh, what about you? If there is anything you want to get off your chest, you have my ears. Not literally, of course. But you know what I mean." Amity sighed. "Well, Luz is having a séance with her friends and family. It's a very important event for her and she wants me to be there, but I don't know if I should go or not. I mean, I would like to go, but it's still so confusing after the kiss and I feel like I should maybe just… clear my mind of distractions right now. I don't want any slip-ups this semester." Edric nodded and sat down on the bed next to Amity. "If it means anything to you, I think you should go. This séance is important to her, you said so yourself. I know you want to be this perfect little witch, but Luz is your friend. Even if things are weird between you right now, you should still show that she can count on you regardless of what you decide on later. It is okay for you to still be confused because of that kiss, but that doesn't mean you still can't be a good friend. And I have a feeling that if you don't go, you're going to hate yourself for it afterward." "I… I don't know," Amity said, unsure. "There's also the new curfew and-" She felt her brother rustle her hair. "Just think about it." Edric told her, before walking out. Amity was once again left alone with her own thoughts. She closed her book while contemplating going to the séance. Even though she was considering going against what Lilith had suggested, she still had nothing but admiration and respect for her godmother. Lilith had done so much for Amity, especially recently… After Luz had brought Amity home from the party, Ed and Em helped her to the couch. "You're going to be alright, Amity," Emira assured her, feeling her sister shaken. "Ed, get her something to drink." "Alright," Edric said as he went to the kitchen while Lilith came from downstairs. "Amity?" Lilith asked, looking worried as she rushed over. "What happened?" "She was at a party, and… there were these creeps that attacked her. Skara called us while Luz brought Amity home after saving her," Emira explained while patting Amity's back. "Let me talk to her," Lilith said as she sat beside Amity, dismissing Emira. "Are you all right-" It was then that Amity suddenly wrapped her arms around the Clawthorne woman, crying into her chest. Lilith hugged her in response. "It's okay, my little Starlight. You're safe." "I-I was so scared… I froze and…" Amity sniffed and shivered. "I-If Luz hadn't shown up, I could've been…" Lilith held Amity tightly, comforting the youngest Blight. "I know, and I'm very grateful that Luz saved you. And I am not going anywhere, either…" Amity still remembered how Lilith had comforted her. It really did feel like her relationship with Lilith was becoming something much closer lately… It was then that Amity noticed a shadow on the floor. And it wasn't hers, since it was waving at her. The shadow flew through the window to her bedroom and Amity walked over to it. When she opened the window, she was greeted by Puck standing below her. "Hey, Pixie Dust!" Puck greeted with a wave. "Mind if I come in?" Amity hesitated, but remembered how Puck had helped her rescue Ed and Em. "Um, sure I guess," Amity responded. She turned away from the window and Puck was suddenly already there standing in her bedroom, causing Amity to leap back in surprise. "Bah! Wha- how did you-?!" "Don't worry about it," Puck said nonchalantly. "Especially since you clearly have a lot bothering you already, Pixie Dust." He noticed the books on her bed and picked up the one with the flying boy on the cover. "Give me that!" Amity grabbed the book from him. "Seriously, what are you doing here? If my parents were at home right now…" "Yes, yes, I'm aware of the law against my kind on this corpse island." He waved it off. "But you don't normally find these kinds of books in the Isles. Where did you get them?" "They're from the human world," Amity explained. "I got them when I went there… with Luz." His ears perked up. "With Luz, eh? Interesting, tell me more." "Amity? Amity!" Amity woke up from her catatonic state that she had been left in after kissing Luz. She found herself on her bed and saw Lilith giving her a look. "Awake now?" "I… kissed… Luz," Amity said in shock and awe. "Yes, you did," Lilith told her with a sigh. "Aren't you going a little too fast?" "Too fast? I KISSED MY CRUSH!" Amity cried out in panic, burying her face in a pillow. Lilith rolled her eyes. "Teenagers," she scoffed. "Look, Amity, I know that you're having all kinds of feelings right now. But I have to warn you that you are setting yourself up for heartbreak." Amity looked up at her. "But… I don't think Luz would-" "How do you think she would react if she found out you were spying on her and her mother for the head of the Emperor's Coven?" Lilith asked. "But we're just doing this because you were concerned for Luz's well being," Amity pointed out. "She won't see that though. She will see it as a betrayal. I know you're young, that this is all new for you. Trust me, I have been there before… and I have had my heart broken before. Your feelings for Luz are compromising our agreement and I don't want to see you get hurt." Amity nodded, though she didn't want to admit that Lilith was right. "Now, tell me about your trip to the human world," Lilith told her. "Oh, well… I met Luz's step family, they're very nice," Amity explained. "They also have a gerbil servant that took us to a street festival. I learned that some things there aren't so different from the Boiling Isles and Luz showed me all these many beautiful places…" She stopped herself, looking embarrassed. "I-I mean, the human world is nice." "I see," Lilith said while thinking about Luz's stepfamily, who she realized may be a way to keep Luz safe from Belos. "We can talk more about your trip later," Lilith informed her, patting Amity's head. "But for now, get some rest and remember what I told you." "And she flew me around the country to see landmarks like this small mountain with the faces of important people carved into it and the largest ditch I've ever seen. Luz called it the Grand Canyon," Amity continued to recount her date to Puck. "Mhmm, what else happened?" Puck asked her. "Well, then I said goodbye to her human stepfamily and we left. Things didn't go as perfectly as I would have preferred, but I still had a really good time." "Is that all? Nothing happened when she dropped you off at home?" Puck asked with a smirk and Amity blushed. "Um well…" Amity stammered, before deciding to change topics. "Anyway, today I learned that she was having a séance." "A séance?" Puck asked. "It's an important ritual for witches that wish to speak to the dead of their loved ones," Amity explained. "Luz is going to use the séance to talk to her human mother and she wants me to be there." "Then why don't you go?" he asked her. "What is keeping you here in your bedroom, surrounded by the stories of other people while you miss out on what's happening now in your own story?" "I'm afraid," Amity admitted. "Because if I go, that might mean I would have to have a… certain conversation with Luz about our relationship. I guess that I am so used to having my future planned out for me that when I don't already know the outcome… it terrifies me." Puck nodded. "Well, I'm not going to tell you what to do," he said, surprising her. "That is not my place, because this is your decision and your decision alone. I know that others have told you what they think you should choose, but that is not their place either. You have agency, Pixie Dust. This is your life, your story. And right now, you're at a point where your story could go in one way or another. But the responsibility of determining that falls to you." Hearing this, Amity closed her eyes and took a deep breath. "I… have to go. Luz needs me and that's all the reason I need to be there for her." Puck smiled. "I'll take ya," he offered. "I know how nervous you are about going out alone and now there is this stupid curfew. But I can walk you there and back, just to be on the safe side." "Why do you want to help me?" Amity asked him. "Is there something you want in return?" "Nope," Puck said as he started to tie some of her bedsheets into a rope that they could use to climb out of her window. "Though honestly, I'm not completely sure why I want to help you. It just feels… it feels like something I need to do. Just like how you feel like you need to be there for Luz." He frowned. "In the past I've done things that I'm not proud of. I can never undo them, but I can try to make up for them by doing some good now." He finished the rope. "So are you coming or not?" "Yeah, I am," Amity said, smiling slightly. At the Emperor's Castle, the meeting between the heads of the main covens had just been concluded and everyone had been dismissed. Lilith had left the meeting room and was now walking through the hallways, passing murals of Emperor Belos that she had once looked up at in reverence. When she first joined the Emperor's Coven, she wanted nothing more than to prove her worth to the Emperor and justify her position. For her service and loyalty she hoped that he would reward her by curing Eda's curse, so that Eda could join the Emperor's Coven just like they had once dreamed. But everything changed the moment that she met Luz, Eda's adopted daughter. The niece that she had not known until then, because Belos purposely hid her existence from Lilith. It made Lilith start to doubt Belos and his intentions. He wanted Luz for some reason and after what happened to Luz during the exams, she had even more reason to fear for Luz. 'What are you planning with Luz, Belos?' Lilith thought to herself before hearing someone dropping their stuff behind her. "Nonono!" said a voice that Lilith recognized. She turned around and saw a witch around Lilith and Eda's age with mint green hair that had white streaks on the bottom. They wore large round glasses, a gray earring on their right ear, and a black tunic with a long red cape, white long sleeve shirt, red pants and black boots. They are picking up some music sheets. "Oh man, Coven Head Crane's gonna be mad if I don't get these right for his retirement performance!" they said. "Same as always, huh Raine?" asked Lilith, relieved to see the familiar face of an old friend. "Lilith?" Raine replied, standing up. "Long time no see! You know, I don't think I ever properly congratulated you on becoming head of the Emperor's Coven." As Lilith nodded, she suddenly had an idea. "Say… would you like to go grab some brew and catch up a bit?" "Oh, sure!" Raine answered. "That sounds great! Just let me quickly drop these off and then we can go!" Luz was in her room, laying on her bed while looking at her birth mother's glasses. Eda came in to check up on her. "Hey, everyone's almost ready for the séance," Eda told her, "Barcus is testing the setting on the crystal ball and-" She noticed Luz's down shouldered position "Hey, are you okay?" "Yeah, just… thinking," Luz replied as Eda walked over to sit beside her daughter. "About what?" Eda asked. "Like… what would my mom think of me?" Luz asked. "About how I chose the lifestyle of a delinquent and a troublemaker? What will she think of me liking Amity? What if I am not the girl that she was hoping I would be?" "Hey, what's important is that you're alive," Eda reassured her, "You've been fed, taken care of, you have a roof over your head, and you're happy. She'll probably care about that more than anything else." Luz looked up to her adopted mother. "You think so?" "Even if you are not the girl you would have been if you had been raised by her, you are still her daughter. And I think this is closure that you both need." Luz nodded and hugged Eda. "Thanks, mom." Eda hugged back. "No problem, kiddo… now come on, let's not keep the others waiting." They heard Hooty making hoot noises, announcing more arrivals. "Wonder who it is now?" While the gang in the living room was adding the last touches to the séance set-up, Luz ran to the front door as it opened and saw a familiar demon standing there. "Oh, King." "You two left me at Hexside," King grumbled as he walked in. "You would not believe the day I had." "Sorry King," Luz said as she knelt down and patted his head. "I was just so focused on the séance and mom was so busy with the PCA meeting, we didn't mean to forget about you." King looked up and flicked Luz on the forehead. "Now we're even. Also, Amity's out there." "Wait, what!?" Luz looked outside and saw Amity standing in the front of the Owl House, waving nervously at her. "Amity…" "Hey, Luz," Amity replied. "I'm not… too late for the séance, am I?" Luz smiled at her warmly, "We're just about to get started. Come in." "Alright everyone, Barcus got the crystal ball set up to a channel to the spirit world," Jerbo explained as he started to translate for Barcus after Amity came in. "This is a special séance, since while witches from the Oracle Coven have spoken to the realms of the dead, humans are a bit different. Using voodoo dolls to speak to Luz's human mother is going to take a lot of hand holding, lit candles, sage, and an incantation circle that lets us speak through the spirit realm to human souls. Luz, do you have an object that can lead to your mother's spirit?" Luz held up the glasses and Barcus barked. "Good, tie it around the voodoo doll and place it in the circle to commence the séance," Jerbo translated. Luz tied the glasses around the voodoo doll and placed it in the circle. "Now, everyone get in the circle." King, Eda, Luz, Amity, Willow, Gus, Viney, Jerbo, and Barcus got in the circle, the lights turning off as Eda lit the sage, incense and candles around. Barcus began to rub the globe, connected to the spirit world as he mixed his cauldron. His eyes glowed as he starts to bark, and Jerbo translates as his eyes glowed as well. "Hear thee, spirits! All those who partake in the séance, shall contact the spirit world to look for Camila Noceda! Through the object of her glasses, help us spirit to find her soul for us to contact!" The crystal ball glowed and spoke in response "One moment while we look for Camila Noceda," spoke the other worldly voice, followed by show tunes music playing. "Is… is this a thing?" King asked before Eda shushed him. Suddenly the lit candles died out, leaving the room dark. Smoke started to drift around them as the voodoo doll started to glow along with the glasses. Everyone watched in awe as the smoke started to form around the doll and take a shape. The glasses became a part of this shape as it materialized a face. Appearing before them in glowing purple and blue light was a woman that resembled an older Luz, but with short hair and dressed in a white gown. "¿Dónde estoy? Pensé que estaba en…" She looked around and spotted Luz, her eyes widening as she got a closer look. "Luz? Mija?" Luz's eyes widened as well. "Mami?" she suddenly spoke, as if she understood her language. "Mom? Is that you?" Her voice was cracking. "Luz… you've grown up," Camila said as she went to hug her daughter who hugged her back, years falling from Luz's eyes. "Oh my baby girl, I am so happy that you're still alive." "I'm so happy to finally be able to meet and see you," Luz whispered. After a moment, she let go while Camila took a good look at her daughter. "How old are you?" Camila asked softly. "Fourteen," Luz answered. "But, don't worry, I've been doing well. I want you to meet the woman who took me in." She gestured to Eda. "It's um… nice to meet you, Camila," Eda told her awkwardly. "I'm Eda the Owl Lady and, well… I'm a witch." "A… witch?" Camila asked. "Yeah, I found your daughter after the accident that took your life," Eda explained. "At first, I thought I could find a home for her, but then I decided to keep her. I raised her the best that I could, though admittedly I wasn't a perfect parent and I made plenty of "Stop," Camila interrupted as she went to hug Eda, much to the Owl Lady's surprise. "I want to thank you for finding and raising my daughter. I regret being unable to see her grow up myself, but it is more than enough to know that my little girl is alive and loved. Thank you, Ms. Owl Lady, for taking care of my daughter for me. Thank you for being her mother." "T-Thank you," Eda told her before Camila let go. "I also would like to meet my friends," Luz said before gesturing to King. "This is King, he's like a brother to me." "Hi, Luz's dead mom! I'm the King of Demons!" King said. "It's nice to meet you, King," Camila said kindly as she petted King. "Hi, Luz's human mom!" Hooty said as he popped up excitedly. "This is Hooty, a house demon who protects our home," Luz explained. "Oh, then thank you for protecting my daughter," Camila said, petting Hooty. "And here are my best friends," Luz continued with the introductions. "This is Gus, future ambassador to the human world. Willow, by best wing-girl. Then there's Viney, the best animal caretaker that I know.. Jerbo the go-to guy who makes meta-references and moss men. Barcus here is my dawg who had this set up." She finally turned to Amity. "And this is Amity, she's my um-" "I'm her girlfriend," Amity interrupted, shocking Luz. "If she'll have me." "Oh, a girlfriend? That is… that is very wonderful," Camila stated proudly, much to Luz's surprise. "I approve of you, Amity. I hope that you take care of my Luz and that she takes care of you as well." "I… I won't disappoint you, ma'am," Amity replied, feeling uplifted by the approval of Luz's deceased mother. "Okay, so I have a lot of questions, Ms. Noceda," Gus spoke with his hand raised up. "Like, Luz is the most awesome human I've ever known, so must be just as awesome!" "Honestly, I was just a simple health care worker," Camila explained. "Hey, that's awesome in my book," Eda stated. "Where we live, you'd probably fit well in the Healing Coven." "Wow, so Luz's mom was a doctor? That is awesome!" Gus declared. "Don't mind him, he's very fascinated with human memorabilia," Willow brought up. "You all seem to be such wonderful people," Camila said. "My Luz is so lucky." "There is something that I want to ask you about," Luz brought up. "Do you remember anything about… the crash?" "My memory's a bit fuzzy," Camila explained. "All I can remember is that there was a bright flash in the middle of the road, followed by something slamming into the front of the car, causing me to lose control and drive off the road. I tried to protect you from the impact, but it all happened so fast…" Viney noticed that the tail of Camila's gown was starting to fade. "Uh hey, she's fading out a bit." Barcus barked and Jerbo translated. "Barcus says that we're reaching the limit of contact with the spirit world!" Wasting no time, Luz held her deceased mother's hand, tears falling from her eyes. "Mami, there is so much I want to say before you go, I wish I had more time." She wiped away her tears. "Maybe we could talk more in the future…" Camila raised her daughter's chin up and gave her a reassuring smile "There is so much more I want to say to you as well…" Tears also leaked from her own glowing eyes as she disappeared into balls of light. "I love you, mija." "I love you too… mami," Luz replied and their foreheads touched before the spirit disappeared completely, leaving only the glasses and the voodoo doll in Luz's hands. The lights came back on and Barcus, tired after making contact with the spirit world, almost fell and Jerbo had to catch him. Everyone else was looking at Luz. The human girl had fallen to her knees, staring blankly at the empty space in front of her. "Are you alright, hon?" Eda asked as she came forward. "Luz, do you need some air?" Amity asked, coming forward as well. Luz sniffed. "Y-Yeah, I'm going to be okay. Just… all my life I wondered what my human mother was like. There is still a lot that I don't know about her, but I know that she loves me. Even if I am not the daughter she would have raised, she loves me." She turned to Amity, smiled at her, and hugged the Blight girl. "Thank you for coming, Ams." Amity's face was glowing red, but she hugged Luz back. "I wanted to be here for you, Luz. This was too important to you for me to miss." "Did you really mean it?" Luz asked as they let go of each other. "Do you really want to be my girlfriend?" "If you want me to be," Amity replied, ready to talk to Luz about the kiss. "Whatever that kiss was, I don't want it to be a mistake. I kissed you because I wanted to… and I would like to think that you kissed me back because you wanted to as well." "They kissed?" Willow whispered and Gus nodded in confirmation. "A lot has changed recently and I don't know what my future has in store for me anymore," Amity continued. "But I know that in it I want to be more than friends with you, Luz. And if that's what you want as well, then-" "Yes, Amity," Luz said with a smile and Amity smiled back. "I want you to be my girlfriend. Nothing would make me happier right now." "Finally!" everyone else shouted. "It's about time, I mean you two weren't… hiding it well, honestly," King admitted. "It was pretty obvious," Willow added, causing Amity and Luz to blush in embarrassment. "So… what now?" Luz asked her new girlfriend. "Well, can we keep our relationship private for now?" Amity asked. "I'm not ready for my parents or school to know. I just… want to see where this goes first." "Yeah, I'm fine with it," Luz replied sincerely. "As long as I'm with you, that's all that matters." "It's so nice to see you again, Raine," Lilith stated while sipping her coffee brew, leaning on the balcony of the Emperor's Castle with her old schoolmate. "How have you been?" "Oh um, doing great, Lilith," Raine replied, holding their own cup. "Man, it's been a while since I've seen a Clawthorne. Still trying to catch your sister?" they asked, knowing about Lilith's exploits. Lilith sighed. "At the moment, but…" She turned to Raine. "When was the last time you spoke of Edalyn, Raine?" "Well, I haven't seen her since our… well, break up. I've decided to join the Bard Coven since then," Raine replied, looking uneasy. "Did you know that she has a daughter now?" Lilith mentioned, shocking Raine. "Wait, what!?" Raine asked, stammering nervously. "S-She got a-!? When did-!?" "Edalyn adopted her," Lilith told them to ease Raine's nervousness. "I never thought that Eda would be able to handle such a responsibility, but she's changed. Her daughter is named Luz and she is so much like her mother." She looked down with a frown. "She acts tough but… that girl's been through a lot… especially since she's a human." Raine looked surprised. "I never knew there was a human in the Boiling Isles…" "Me neither," Lilith admitted. "And that's the problem. Belos had her existence covered up, even from me. I… honestly don't know who I can trust anymore. And I still have no idea what Belos wants with the girl, but I doubt it is anything good. I am right now trying to find a way to keep her safe from the Emperor, because I believe that she is in a lot of danger as long as he wants her for his own purposes…" Raine looked at Lilith and then looked down, thinking of Eda. "I wish I could help, but right now with so many other things going around… I do, however, share your sentiment and concerns. Maybe someday I could see Eda again and meet her daughter. I can't believe she is actually a parent. Have you ever thought of having kids of your own?" "No, I haven't," Lilith said as she looked down, though she did recall a certain memory… "Excellent work, Amity," Lilith told her protégé weeks prior to the Covention. Amity was showing off to her mentor how much progress she had made in her magic. "Thanks, mom," Amity replied before realizing what she had said and feeling embarrassed. "Oops, I mean, thank you, Ms. Lilith. Sorry, I didn't mean-" Lilith chuckled and patted Amity's head. "Please, my dear Starlight," Lilith told her. "It was just a little slip-up. Nothing to apologize for. Now let us continue." Amity nodded and looked away from Lilith, not noticing the smile on the Clawthorne woman's lips. "I am a godmother," Lilith admitted to Raine in the present. "But I wasn't particularly close to my goddaughter until more recently… I don't think I would be that good of a parent, honestly." She stared at her cup in silence. "Oh come on, Lilith, if Eda can handle a kid, you could too. You would probably be a more responsible parent than her, at least," Raine said, chuckling while they drank more of the coffee brew. "Perhaps," Lilith said with a small smile. "Did you know that Eda was once married to a human?" Raine almost choked on their drink. "Eda got married!?" they asked, coughing. Lilith chuckled. "Don't worry, he's her ex-husband," she reassured him. "But you haven't changed at all, Rainestorm." Raine frowned and stared off into space. "You might be surprised," they said. "Things now are nothing like they were when we were kids…" Lilith nodded, remembering her Hexside days… Years ago, four young students of Hexside were getting ice scream together. "You, uh, got some on your face there," Odalia noted as she used her hand to wipe a bit of ice scream off Lilith's cheek. "Oh, thanks," Lilith told her girlfriend, smiling at her. "Ugh, those two are going to be insufferable during Grom," Eda whispered to Raine as they walked alongside Lilith and Odalia. "Oh come on, they're not that bad," Raine whispered back, but Eda just rolled her eyes. "Anyway, I think we should definitely go see the Rats show this weekend!" Eda spoke up so that Lilith and Odalia heard her as well. "Well, it does look interesting at least," Raine replied nervously. "Oh please, I've already seen that show," Odalia said. "Everyone was dressed as rats and singing… I don't even know if there is a plot. It's just… there. What do you think, Lily?" Odalia turned to Lilith and noticed her staring at a coven guard setting up a poster before leaving. The poster read: 'Do You Have What It Takes to Join the Emperor's Coven? Try-Outs Are Coming Up! It'd Be Radical to Have You In Our Ranks!' "Hmm, try-outs," Odalia commented, putting her hand on Lilith's shoulder. "This could be your chance, love. Being part of the Emperor's Coven has been your dream." "My chance…" Lilith whispered to herself, looking up at the poster in awe. "Try-outs for the Emperor's Coven, eh?" Eda perked up, looking at the poster with a smirk. "That could be fun! Maybe you and I could run this town together after joining, Lily!" "I don't think that's how it works, Eda," Raine pointed out as they adjusted their glasses. "Then I'll find some way to make it work, Rainestorm. After all, Lily may have the smarts but I have the natural talent!" Eda drew a spell circle, though she wasn't paying attention to her surroundings and she blasted a stand behind her, causing it to catch on fire. "Oops," she said nervously. "Hey, you blasted kids!" said a large pig demon with a mustache that resembled Tibbles. "How dare you mess with Tibbliet-Tibblie Grimm Hammer the Second's stand! Guards!" "Run!" Eda shouted as she and the group fled. "Ugh, of course we have to run because of your sister," Odalia complained to Lilith. "If she ever joined the Emperor's Coven, it would be a disaster." Lilith, however, didn't answer. Her thoughts were elsewhere… Just like they were in the present day as well. Lilith didn't even notice when Raine said that they had to go and that they hoped to talk with Lilith again soon. Instead, Lilith just stood there with her cup as the coffee brew inside went cold… Back at the Owl House, it was time for everyone to go home. Viney had already left with Jerbo and Barcus on Puddles. Eda was planning on taking Willow and Gus home, but Luz stood outside while looking down at her mother's glasses. "Hey, Luz," Gus said as he walked up to her. "How are you feeling?" "Doing fine, G-Man," Luz replied, though she didn't look up from the glasses. "I'm glad that you get to meet your human mom, Luz," Gus told her, noticing the glasses. "She seemed pretty awesome." "I know," Luz replied, looking up and noticing Gus's own expression. "You alright, though?" "I am, Luz," Gus replied with a smile. "It's just… you're so lucky to have a mom that cares so much about you. I… don't know if mine ever actually did." "Do you… want to talk about your mom?" Luz asked him. Gus sighed. "I don't know why she left or what happened to her. I thought that she would be back someday but… it's hard to talk about it with my dad. Sorry if this sounds too weird." "Nah, weird is fine, G-Man," Luz told him. "Maybe someday, we'll find your mom." "Really?" "Of course, she's gotta be somewhere around the Boiling Isles," Luz pointed out. "I mean, where else could she be?" In the human world, a crowd of people were getting off a train in a dark subway. Among the crowd was a woman with dark skin, long black hair, and blue eyes who hid her pointy ears under a red hood. As she walked with the crowd, the woman swiped valuables from the pockets and bags of the people around her. She passed a sign that read 'Now Entering, Norrisville.' "Sure Eda, it's no problem," Perry said, working on a board in his basement while the crow phone was on his shoulder. "Just make sure he gets back safely. I'll be waiting here for him." He ended the call and stepped back to get a look at his board, which was covered in pictures and reports with red strings connecting them together. The board included pictures of Luz, Eda, King, Mr. Manylegs, Kikimora, and even Emperor Belos himself, while among the reports were those covering a riot at the Conformatorium and the Boiling Zit Incident, neither of which mentioned Luz's involvement. At the corner of the board was a picture of a woman with dark skin, long black hair, and blue eyes, while at the center of the board was a hand-written note that asked one big question. 'What is the Day of Unity?' "Thanks for asking me over, Luz," Amity said as she came outside. "Hey, I'm glad that you came," Luz replied with a kind smile. "I'll see you tomorrow at school." "Well, better get on," Eda said from her staff, Willow and Gus sitting behind her. "Gotta take all you kids home." "Oh that won't be necessary, I already got someone to take me home," Amity told them. "You mean your bodyguard?" Luz asked her. "A friend, but I'll still text you when I get home to let you know that I'm safe," Amity promised. "Well, take care and watch out for night crawlers!" Eda told her as she flew off with Willow and Gus. Amity nodded. "I should get going," she said, turning to Luz and being surprised when she was given a kiss on the nose. "Something to remember me by," Luz told her, blushing. "Sorry, I guess… it-it's just-" She felt Amity kiss her on the cheek and Luz looked at her in awe. "And something to remember me by as well," Amity replied, blushing as well. The two embraced each other in a hug before Luz went back into the Owl House and Amity started walking away, waving at each other while heading in opposite directions. Once Luz was inside, Amity smiled to herself. She and Luz were now dating… in private, of course. Though there was still her agreement with Lilith, that was something she would take care of later. But as for right now, she was happy. "Hey," Puck said as he jumped down from the trees and landed next to her. "How did it go, Pixie Dust?" "It went well, actually," Amity told him. "I think me and Luz are going to be fine… together."
