Search for Shalla-Bal[]
Mephisto was first seen during Reed's nightmare as he and Terri were using the AstroWing to head to Zenn-La. In it, he ambushed Shalla-Bal at her flower courtyard. She fought him with everything she had, but being he's immortal, he easily won over her and persuaded the Surfer to come to him.
It turned out that Terri's vision was right, after she had a nightmare of a devilish world being overridden by tricky demons outmaneuvering the AstroWing! It was the red, cursed planet in the Deneb Galaxy, in which Norrin left without the group knowing it. The Fantastic 5 followed him to it and the demons were more than a handful! Norrin aided them and made an offer for one of the heroes, Reed, to combine their abilities into one person. Reed and Norrin led on, and they encountered Mephisto! He claimed he killed Shalla-Bal and her soul was damned here. The group was hapless against his never-ending strength, causing the AstroWing to fall and crash! Reed and Norrin chased after him, and he made some female screams in which the Surfer thought was Shalla! He laughed how predictable he was, and stated that Shalla is dead. Reed tried to convince the Surfer otherwise, as he can sense her essence similar to Sue's thanks to Terri's telepathy. But Norrin was about to surrender his board and Power Cosmic, till Fennan took the blow! The AstroWing fired toward him, blowing up his throne and providing a distraction while the team escaped with only Shalla's spirit in tow. He was only able to discard her body into the Magik Domain!
