Minos is the king of Crete in Greek mythology. He appears in the video game The Quest for Beasts: War for the Gods in which actor Jeffrey Tambor provides his voice.

Biography[]

While Minos was alive, he was the ruler of the Minoans of Crete and was married to Queen Pasiphae, who bore him two children; Ariadne and Androgeos. He received a pure white bull as a gift from Poseidon, the god of the ocean, which he was later required to sacrifice; the king instead killed a lesser bull in its place and kept the white bull. Poseidon got revenge by cursing the king's wife by making her fall in love with the bull; she later gave birth to the Minotaur. Minos then turned to the inventor Daedalus to build a Labyrinth at his palace in which the beast would reside.

When Androgeos was murdered by the Athenians after winning a series of sporting challenges, Minos demanded that, every nine years, Athens send fourteen virgins to Crete to be killed by the Minotaur, to prevent him from destroying the city. This continued until Theseus, the Athenian prince and son of Poseidon, killed the Minotaur and escaped back to Athens with the prisoners and Ariadne.

Sometime afterwards, Minos sailed to Sicily where Daedalus was taking refuge, with a view to capturing the inventor and killing him, but he was later killed by Daedalus while he was bathing, and his soul was later sent to the Underworld where he became a judge.

Appearance and personality[]

Minos is a muscular, middle-aged man with graying hair, a beard and blue eyes. He sports a blue toga, sandals and golden wristbands. Minos is a cruel, tyrannical individual. His personality borders on sadistic and he enjoys meting out punishment towards those who cross him.
