Minwu, commonly known as Elder, is a non-player character in Final Fantasy IV, and a playable character in its sequel, Final Fantasy IV: The After Years. He leads the town of Mysidia, which is populated by Black and White Mages. Minwu is an experienced mage himself, and also a close friend to the wandering Sage Tellah. He is knowledgeable in the Mysidian Legend that speaks of the Chosen One come to save the world.
While all game releases refer to him as just the Elder of Mysidia, he is named Minwu in the Japanese exclusive novelizations of Final Fantasy IV. He is thus named after the White Mage Minwu from Final Fantasy II.
Trials of a King/Conquest of the Blue Planet[]
He made some minor appearances even when he was alerted by Palom and Porom as there was a catastrophe at the summit of Mt. Ordeals. He worried for Kain's sake, though he escaped carrying Cecil.
Several hours later, he saw Cecil march up to him at the Prayer Dais. He wished for the Elder to give him the strength to confront the Injukhal and his dark side. He asked why Cecil would climb up Mt. Ordeals again, he told him, and his darker self must be stopped before it shall corrupt him again. The Phoenix Pinion was what saved Cecil from death as he fell. Since he acted on desperation, Elder couldn't help. He must rely on Rosa's love to save him, and the silvery moon pendant, the birthday gift was proof. Elder then accepted Cecil's blessing, but until then, he must defeat the darkness, for their sakes.
Several months later, Elder and Mysidia were being invaded by the Injukhal as well as brainwashed Mages! They captured Palom and Porom, then stole the Water Crystal and left the Elder wounded. Cecil arrived and healed him up, then Elder begged for him to rescue the twins while getting the Glamour Greens for Rosa. He waited at the empty village until the Paladin teleported back with the twins! He and Palom were shocked with Cecil's tribal outfit and makeup, but he soon discarded all that as Elder and the Mages left for Baron via Devil's Road.
Elder met up with Yang and Kain and he implored them to save the planet. By the time the war was over, he was able to witness the arrival of Baron's new prince, Ceodore!
