forests of Kashyyyk. They were intelligent, being able to sense whether an intruder in their territory was a threat or not which would affect their reaction to them. Hostile trespassers would be attacked enveloped in webs and lifted to the trees where netcasters lived; peaceful passersby would be allowed passage unharmed.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Netcasters in an unfinished episode of The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Ring
Netcasters were set to appear in an episode of The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Ring, but the show was cancelled before the episode could be completed. A clip from the episode featuring the netcasters was shown at Celebration Anaheim in 2015 where eight of the creatures attacked several Wookiees and Clone Force 99 on Kashyyyk. The netcasters were shown to be aggressive and primitive, and were able to spit a spider-like web from a frontal appendix. The netcasters were not able to defeat the Wookiees and were all killed.[2] The creature design was originally based on kinraths from the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic game.[3]
Elements of this story were later reworked as part of the sixth episode of the second season of Star Wars: The Bad Batch. In this version, the netcasters did not attack Clone Force 99 and only become hostile once provoked by a group of Trandoshans, fighting alongside the Wookiees to drive out their enemy.[1]
