Nethership sailing to Shang Tsung's Island in the Lost Sea
Ages ago, the shapeshifting sorcerer Shang Tsung used this old vessel, the Nethership, to cross the Lost Sea in Earthrealm to the Celestial Portal of Outworld. It was once used to bring warriors from the mainland to Shang Tsung's island fortress for the first Mortal Kombat tournament.
Now this vessel is mainly used as a cargo ship for Shang Tsung to transport the Dragon King's mummified army from the Lost Tomb to his palace. At times, the cruel sorcerer will then carry prisoners in the ship's cages within the cargo hold, further torturing their souls as they await their executions.
The ship was first introduced as Shang Tsung's Sail Barge in the comic Mortal Kombat: Collector's Edition published by Midway, but it was not officially named until the release of Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance.
In ancient times, vessels like these were referred to as ghost ships.
Appearance in other media[]
Before it was introduced in Deadly Alliance, Shang Tsung's boat is featured in Mortal Kombat comic series published by Malibu Comics.
Shang Tsung's boat is named Dragon Wing in the novelization of the 1995 film Mortal Kombat, novel Mortal Kombat, and Hasbro's Mortal Kombat action figures lines.
Shang Tsung's boat also appears in the 1995 film Mortal Kombat. It ported at Pier 40 of Chia Wan Bay, Hong Kong, to bring the invited contestants from the mainland to the island in the Lost Sea for the Mortal Kombat Tournament.

Mortal Kombat: Vengeance[]
The Nethership was once mentioned by Raiden as he recapped it was used by the Deadly Alliance to carry doomed souls thru Earthrealm to Outworld in order to preserve their plans on resurrecting the Dragon King and his undead army. Kung Lao, Johnny, Sonya and Liu remembered boarding it before the first tournament, before they wound up on Shang's Island smack dab in between the two realms on the Lost Sea. It was found and suggested by Johnny which relieved the weary Kombatants within the shadowy interior of Shang's Palace. Powered up by Raiden and Fujin, it entered thru a portal leading into Earthrealm! Kung Lao rested inside one of the silent cabins with Aiko beside him.
The Nethership was the only luxurious vessel that transported each of the heroes back home to Earthrealm (particularly to the Special Forces base, Wu Shi Academy), and to the Edenian Palace. As the sun peaked thru a side window, it woke up Kung Lao who groggily needed to rest more. Several minutes later, he reluctantly left it with Aiko, Nightwolf, Kiba and Liu's soul escorting him.
Trivia[]
- In Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, bouts take place on the outer deck, while in Mortal Kombat: Deception and Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, bouts take place inside the vessel, and opponents can be slammed into the windows.
- The Nethership arena can be unlocked by opening koffin "DS" (Death Ship) in the Krypt in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance for 1472 Ruby koins.
