Nightwolf had been warned of the coming invasion of Earthrealm by a vision from Raiden. As such, he was fully aware and prepared for the events as they occurred, including the attacks of Kahn's extermination squads. His own homeland protected through shamanic magic; he would soon be joined by the other chosen warriors. Together, they then traveled back to the East Coast, prepared for battle against the emperor and his minions, and won.

Nightwolf made his return during the events of Mortal Kombat: Deception. In the events leading to Deception, Nightwolf viewed images of the Dragon King and his resurrection in his dreams. These nightmares recurred constantly, and Nightwolf came to recognize them as a warning. He knew that a new evil threat was about to arise from the ashes, and in view of Reptile's transformation into Onaga, his predictions most assuredly came true.

The method that Nightwolf would use to destroy Onaga was one passed down to him by his forefathers. This method was that of the "Sin Eater", which involved absorbing the sins of his tribe. However, there was a terrible consequence to be considered in taking on such a role. If he were to do this, he would be a danger to all that surrounded him, including his allies. Hence, he made the decision to destroy Onaga on his own, keeping his allies out of harm's way. His role as a Sin Eater would involve entering the Netherrealm, drawing Onaga's soul to him, and releasing the absorbed sins of his ancestors, which would bind Onaga to the spot.

After Shujinko defeated Onaga in Outworld, Nightwolf took the opportunity to execute his plan. His method was successful, and he managed to separate Reptile from Onaga, and bind the Dragon King to the Netherrealm. It would be Shujinko, Nightwolf's former student, who assisted him in ending the threat of the Dragon King.

After completing his quest, he was guided back to Earthrealm by his spirit guides - a pack of wolves. Nightwolf began to receive visions of a battle, where an unknown power was forcing the participating warriors to fight each other. His visions started to become reality, when he spoke with Johnny Cage and their allies and agreed to assist them in battle against Shinnok and his forces. Eventually, Nightwolf was met by Kitana and the spirit of Liu Kang. The bond that the two of them shared was enough for Kitana to keep Kang's spirit whole, until a way was found for him to rejoin with his body. Still drained after using his shamanic powers on Onaga, Nightwolf used what magic he could to relieve Kitana of her burden and took on the responsibility of looking after Kang's spirit.

In Armageddon, he joins the Forces of Light in the final battle. He wounds Sheeva with one of his arrows but is then killed himself on the steps of the Pyramid of Argus. His body can be seen on the stairs of the pyramid.

In the alternate timeline,Nightwolf appears during the first Mortal Kombat tournament. When Scorpion is brought out to fight, Nightwolf is his second opponent. Scorpion believes that Nightwolf dishonors his kind by not seeking retribution and defeats him in battle. Nightwolf is seen after Liu Kang successfully defeats Shang Tsung. Although he participated on Earthrealm's behalf, Nightwolf is not shown as having attended the ceremony for Liu Kang at the Wu Shi Academy.

Nightwolf does not appear again until the Earthrealm invasion. After Kurtis Stryker defeats Ermac in the Subway, Nightwolf appears and asks Stryker to join the Earthrealm warriors in an attempt to defeat Shao Kahn. Nightwolf then appears as Cyber Sub-Zero is reprogrammed. When Raiden receives another vision, Nightwolf asks Raiden what he has seen. The Earth warriors are informed of the Soulnado, and Nightwolf joins Cyber Sub-Zero in an attempt to stop Quan Chi. Nightwolf battles Quan Chi and defeats him and then is attacked by Noob Saibot. Nightwolf defeats Noob and launches him into the Soulnado, causing it to disappear. Nightwolf returns to the Earth warriors with the news, but Raiden sees that his amulet is still breaking.

When the Lin Kuei cyborgs ambush the Earth warriors, Nightwolf faces Cyrax, then Sektor in kombat, defeating both. After all of the cyborgs are defeated, Sindel appears and begins to kill most of the Earth warriors. Nightwolf then faces Sindel and eventually is forced to sacrifice his life to obliterate her. Nightwolf's soul is later seen in the possession of Quan Chi and is defeated by Raiden.

Nightwolf, a Revenant of Quan Chi, is present during the Netherrealm invasion of Earth.

Jax and Smoke were assigned to take out and guard the portal to Raiden's Sky Temple. The two, alongside some Netherrealm demons manage to kill the Shaolin guards and guard the cave. Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade, Kenshi, and a squad of soldiers prepare to jump Jax and Smoke, but Nightwolf arrives at the cave via portal and announces the squadron's position to his Netherrealm allies. Nightwolf is then defeated by Kenshi while his allies, Smoke and Jax, are defeated by Johnny Cage.

Nearly three decades later, Nightwolf's next and final appearance in the game was when Quan Chi and his minions ride to the former's fortress to await D'Vorah's arrival with Shinnok's Amulet. They are then stopped on the way by Earthrealm forces (including Kenshi and now-human Jax) due to Sareena's tip-off. Nightwolf attempts to fight the soldiers by throwing tomahawks at them as a wounded Quan Chi is led to his fortress by Liu Kang but ultimately retreats when Earthrealm gets the upper hand.

Unlike his revenant minions, he is not seen outside the Sky Temple before the Special Forces invaded it.

After being brought to the present from the result of Time Merger by Kronika, a younger incarnation of Nightwolf was approached by her. Despite Nightwolf openly rejected her offer, Kronika sent him to the voided place at Chaotian Age, where he met Fujin and a time-displaced Shang Tsung. As a now Fire Thunder God Liu Kang proceeded to change the timeline after defeating Kronika, Nightwolf, along with Shang Tsung and Fujin, demanded Liu Kang to cease, otherwise the realms will be destroyed, due to Liu Kang destroyed her crown along with destroying her, the most important item to properly change and fix the timeline. The younger Nightwolf, and Fujin revealed to both Liu Kang and a now human Raiden on how the two former met Shang Tsung after Kronika banished them to the same place where Liu Kang and Raiden were. Liu Kang then sent the three to the past, where they ended up at the Koliseum when Shao Kahn and Kitana were battling. While the three were sneaking out of the Koliseum, Kollector finds the three, letting the beasts out of their cells. Nightwolf defeated Kollector while the two took the beasts down. Shang Tsung then told Nightwolf and Fujin that they will bring Sindel back to life in order to defeat Cetrion and retrieve the crown, despite Fujin recalled what happened during Shao Kahn’s past invasion on Earthrealm where Nightwolf’s future-self were amongst the casualties and becoming one of Shinnok’s revenants, including Sindel herself. As Kronika has seen through the group's plan, she sent Geras and Frost, along with the Cyber Lin Kuei to intercept the trio. Nightwolf defeated both Frost and Geras and then Shang Tsung and Fujin forces Geras into the portal, leading to Chaosrealm.

As soon as the three headed to the Netherrealm, Nightwolf sensed his revenant close by. Revenant Liu Kang captures the trio after being discovered. The three were being held at Shinnok's Bone Temple and guarded by Revenant Nightwolf. Revenant Sindel appeared and sought revenge on Nightwolf when his future-self killed her in the past. Nightwolf managed to free himself and the other two and then clashed with Sindel. Nightwolf emerged victorious. As his revenant self was about to finish Shang Tsung off, Nightwolf intervened. Nightwolf attempted to reason with his revenant self that Kronika was the enemy, but it left him unconvinced. After Past Nightwolf defeated his Revenant self, Shang Tsung takes Revenant Nightwolf’s soul against Nightwolf's will to heal himself back up to full strength, but have no choice let the sorcerer live on Fujin’s behalf, as they still need him in their quest.

The three headed to Sheeva for her aid. Sheeva was unconvinced until Shang Tsung mentioned Sindel. However, they had to finish the task without Kitana being aware since she would slay Shang Tsung. As the four were at the Dead Pool, they were confronted by Erron Black and Baraka. Nightwolf clashed with Erron Black while Sheeva fought Baraka. Nightwolf got into cover when Erron Black repeatedly fired his gun in an attempt to kill Nightwolf, only for him to be defeated by Sheeva. After the two has been defeated, the four were confronted by Jade. Sheeva attempted to reason with Jade, but she was unconvinced, especially since Kotal Kahn was using the Soul Chamber to recover. Sheeva reluctantly defeated Jade, and then the four head to the chamber. Kotal Kahn has awakened and attempted to attack Shang Tsung, only to be taken down by Sheeva. Kitana headed to the chamber where she discovered the four bringing Sindel back to life. Kitana believed Shang Tsung was corrupting the queen, leading for her to attack him. Sheeva defeated Kitana and the two managed to restore Sindel.

As Shang Tsung's group were headed to Shang Tsung's Island, Sindel joined the trio. After Fujin defeated Kabal and Jade, Nightwolf decided to guard the island with Sindel while Fujin and Shang Tsung search for the crown. As Nightwolf and Sindel were battling Cetrion, Sindel was injured from the fall and Nightwolf was being grabbed by Cetrion. Nightwolf attempted to sacrifice himself to kill Cetrion, only for Sindel to intervene. Nightwolf was still able to assist Sindel in fighting Cetrion. The two emerged victorious while Nightwolf was injured. Fujin and Shang Tsung attacks Cetrion, forcing her to retreat after she suffered from her injuries. Fujin healed Nightwolf and then the younger Jax Briggs and Jacqui Briggs arrived to capture the group. The present Jax convinced to Jacqui that Nightwolf and his crew were the allies. Nightwolf then decided to go with the Briggs while Fujin heads to Raiden.

While the Earthrealm forces fight against the Netherrealm forces, Nightwolf attacks Shang Tsung after he deceived the group in taking the crown. Nightwolf was then defeated and knocked out. As Shang Tsung was trying to steal Nightwolf's soul, Raiden and Fujin intervened, leaving Nightwolf's fate unknown after the two were defeated.

The Tribal Ceremony[]

Nightwolf has appeared as one of the more significant members of the annual tribal ceremonies; he's the closest member relating to his kind, out of everyone aside from Chief Abdullah, Domin, Dragon Rose, Chief Falcolor, and Chief Turgado. He beats on the Djembe honoring his tribe as well as enticing others to join him. He does the same in the other assemblies.

Since he was the most prominent member of the Brotherhood of Shadow and the Dark Lotus Society, he told his close allies, mostly Unaliving Liu Kang, of the annual events. He wanted to cross paths with them to prep for the upcoming war against Darkseid.

Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, Part II[]

Nightwolf in Ikran's story with cute Kiba!

Nightwolf became the Kombatants' technical assistant tracking portals and occasionally fight directly. Three months ago, he was enlisted by Raiden, and he was the one who designed the secret cave base as well as the three Dragon Jets, with the latter as safer passage through rips in Earth's weakening dimensional fabric making it vulnerable to attack by other realms, including Outworld.

Nightwolf still had his pet wolf, Kiba, who he sometimes merges which increases his battle prowess. He was also the warrior that defeated Quan Chi as he wasn't exposed to the infecting powers of the gem of Tetsurri, in a flashback. He also remembered Aiko's younger self once her older self reunited with the team, as they functioned as pacifiers. He led her first meditation session, restoring her dormant memories and her heart powers to which Raiden believed. Kung Lao and Kiba witnessed this, and Aiko confirmed that Shao Kahn escaped during the Outworld insurrection. At that time, he stayed at base in case things should go awry.

As Raiden offered the mortals a brief respite, he returned to his people's sacred land. It was referenced that Aiko was his biggest admirer.

Realizing there was little to no time, he accepted Raiden's request to send in Aiko and Kung Lao. He met up with them and he was hasty to introduce them to their Animalities, the awakening of their spirit animals which was vital in defeating Kahn and his extermination squads. He set up the ceremony, and he was relieved in being at his sacred land after several months. He confessed he wanted to evolve ahead of his tribe and become more advanced by going to college and learning the ways of technology; Raiden was worried once he depended on it too much and forgotten his shamanistic skills and to find a balance. Kung Lao and Aiko weren't resistant to the incents, unlike him, and they each succumbed to the anesthetics.

Lao woke up first after he gradually churned into a cheetah, while Aiko soon followed as an Ankylosaurus! He recalled that was her favorite dinosaur! Eventually, Nightwolf suggested Lao to change into more flimsier clothing. He even merged with Kiba much to the monk's surprise! He came to the conclusion that his spiritual bond is strong enough and are very much alike; he couldn't perform his Wolf Animality without him, and Aiko needed him to be safe. They soon headed out and he recommended to travel discreetly following the immense evil force north. Otherwise, they'd be shot down if they were to use the Dragon Jets, and Raiden was too powerless to form portals.

At a small camp, the trio noticed a distant rumble of thunder; he and Lao concluded it'd be Raiden finding an ally, as the Indian never felt tingly. They did, however, felt a chill in the air, and he spotted some bright ice paths leading down. It was no doubt Sub-Zero, and so they followed the trails! He and Aiko hesitated while Lao traversed over the summit where Kuai was having a losing battle against Oniro. He was surprised to notice Aiko utilizing her cardiokinesis onto a hawk of all things, but she said it was one of Oniro's transformations! They reunited with Lao, Kuai and Smoke who the latter transported the heroes to New York where Cyrax and Sektor were found.

He stayed with Lao and Aiko as the Lin Kuei fugitives closed in on Sektor and Kabal. He and the monk were Aiko's most closest allies to her and encouraged her to increase her prowess onto the assassin. It worked, and she was able to subdue him while Kuai froze him! Smoke then vanished Sektor into the air just before he self-destructed! They gathered with the ninjas, Stryker and Kabal, before they met with a surprise ambush aloft! He defended Aiko as she used her powers to stun the advancing Shadow Priests and Tarkatans while also giving energy to any weary fighter. The battle went awry as the Priests stunned the heroes via their metallic plates, and electrocuted Smoke before they abducted him! Sub-Zero became anxious as Kahn's known to hardly take any prisoners. It was there he identified as the source of the immense darkness he kept feeling.

Also, he and Aiko were the only witnesses that spotted the mysterious brunette male that shouted, "Toasty!" When Sektor blew up in the sky, the man popped out. Aiko frantically looked around and met him. Before he disappeared, he shouted in the same falsetto, "Toasty! 3D!". When the young Kombatant asked what the hell was that about, all he did was shrug.

He was then seen beneath the desolate streets with the team, and he lit up a dried-up oil drum. Aiko sulked beside it and Kung Lao walked up to her. Nightwolf overheard the discussion regarding Aiko's dystopian future, and Lao was willing to take on the dangerous procedure on performing the ritual involving this. Nightwolf warned that some shamans can do this, but the aftereffects would affect both parties involved, whether it'd be physical and emotional. The Matokan was uncertain, but Lao was still anxious to go thru it. Aiko touched his heart as he did with hers, and they created a conduit between them. It was seen that Nightwolf, along with several other Kombatants, became revenants serving a blanch sorcerer and an Elder God in bright robes whom Lao never met before; turned out that Nightwolf sacrificed himself after Sindel stunned and slew most of the defenders. The visions got more intense, so much so that Nightwolf witnessed the 2 breaking apart and were exasperated. He urged Aiko to focus on the present and not let her future cloud her nor Lao's judgement. Aiko became distraught, but Kung Lao gave her some comfort; being he shared with her heart, it was as if they became in sync. Nightwolf knew from then on, the Shaolin Monk was the true guide and guard for her.

He soon woke up the pair hours later, and Stryker was on high alert as he noticed intruders coming, who turned out to only be the remaining separated Kombatants of Liu, Sonya, Jax, and Kitana. Nightwolf then knew that Raiden was hospitalized at the Jinsei Chamber and there was little time left for the two realms to merge, thus Raiden and both worlds rendering permanently powerless. He was prepared to face certain death with his team.

Shao Kahn sent out more of his extermination squads consisting of the usual Tarkatans, Shadow Priests and Centaurs; they were suddenly ambushed by each of the heroes' own Animalities, even Nightwolf's Red Wolf transformation mauling them! Over half of the invaders were assassinated, until they gave away from enduring too much damage reducing them to their human vessels. Each one of the heroes continued to break thru the defense lines, and Kitana was the first to do so; she gave chase after Sindel, Liu Kang followed her to Kahn's Fortress, as did Kung Lao, Aiko and Nightwolf albeit several feet away. Sindel let out a deafening shriek which stunned all the advancing Kombatants! Aiko was barely able to use her cardiokinesis, expanding Sindel's heart just enough to exhaust her and seize her banshee screams! She restored both of her anchors, but they recommended her to stay within the covers of the dark alleyways.

Nightwolf and Kung Lao rushed into the bowels of Kahn's Fortress and the monk was the first to see Smoke chained against the rear wall over a pillar peeking thru the lava! He teleported over the gap, but the shaman failed to warn him it could be a trap! His hat left him shocked; Nightwolf theorized they must conquer over Kahn if they can save him. They rushed into the Temple where Liu and Kitana were watching over her comatose mom. The Matokan sensed the immense darkness ahead, and Liu offered to stay with the women for a while.

Kung Lao and Nightwolf arrived in the Soul Chamber and were flabbergasted of the monstrous display encasing all the unfortunate souls, even Johnny's and their ancestors'. All of a sudden, Sheeva made an ambush from the opaque ceiling and challenged the heroes! The shaman offered to fight off the Shokan, while Lao'd advances up to the Balcony. At first, he wanted to assist him, but he watched from the sidelines. Thanks to his soul manipulation and remembering Lao's strategy on keeping his distance, he was able to win over Sheeva, even enduring her lethal Shokan Jumps!! He was about to use his conjured electricity within his axe, but Sindel implored him to stop! Liu Kang and Kitana met up with them, and she convinced Sheeva as she'd resume her role as Sindel's bodyguard; she confessed that she'd work for Kahn, despite belittling her kind as inferior, in order to protect her race. Liu was outraged, as a heartless Emperor never caring for the Shokan, just using them as tools, even working under the Centaurs. Eventually, due to being outnumbered and wounded, Sheeva backed down.

The shockwaves from Jax made the ceiling collapse onto the devastated Soul Chamber, assisted by Sheeva, who ordered the guys to climb up thru the new hole, even using her strong four arms to help them ascend. They were too late... Liu Kang was desperate on finding his partner, but Nightwolf sensed Lao's soul is gone... The monk was devastated... His friends, even the arrival of the remaining Kombatants, entered and kept ensuring the Champion to keep fighting and put an end to Kahn's savage dominion over Earthrealm and Outworld. By Nightwolf's axe with the souls absorbed into it, they filled up Liu with tons of energy to the point on matching Kahn's astronomical strength, at least that was what the shaman believed...

Thanks to his empowered tomahawk of souls, it gave Liu Kang the endurance and resilience he needed to destroy Kahn! Heck, for a small favor, it even gave Liu visions of his fallen friends gifting him encouragement and the might needed to send the Konqueror over the Pit III and into rows of rapidly spinning deadly spikes shredding his body and soul instantaneously! Liu then gave the tomahawk back to Nightwolf, and the shaman quickly became a new kandidate for the Shaolin Monks, permanently residing in China and technologically advancing the Wu Shi Academy! Sometimes he'd be a mentor to Aiko, Kung Lao, and another idol to Kung Jin!

After a few weeks, he was able to surgically remove some defective components over Smoke while restoring others, making the ninja use both forms in one body!

A Date and a Destiny[]

Nightwolf and Kiba made some brief appearances. As the monks were under a scrimmage with a mysterious elderly man, Kung Lao was unsuccessful on stopping hm. He introduced himself as the Elder God, Fujin, Raiden's younger brother. He followed Kiba to the Wu Shi Arena, and he, Lao, and Aiko were stunned as Fujin wished to see the second-best Champion to train his skills and aerokinesis in preparation of a possible war.

Shinnok's Uprising[]

Nightwolf and Kiba were inside his high-tech den at the Wu Shi Academy testing out his new equipment. His sensors picked up a falling comet coming from the vermillion sky several miles away. Nightwolf suspected it was one celestial body, until his cameras zoomed in and spotted the opaque figure at its tip and abruptly changed course! His rewind function picked up what seemed to be a fallen entity, possibly a God, presuming to be Raiden! Nightwolf was on hot pursuit and spotted Lao and Aiko following their cries of distress. They hopped into his Dragon Jet and headed toward the destination via Doppler. The group discussed of their dreams until he spotted the incident inside the crater! The demons were ganging up on Fujin until Liu and Kai fought them off! Nightwolf intervened with a few lasers before the trio jumped out! While Aiko was healing Fujin with little effect, he was saved. Raiden warned of the apocalyptic war involving Shinnok and the heavens and urged his Champions to gather their allies once more.

Nightwolf volunteered with Lao and Aiko, and the team headed thru a newly generated portal to Edenia, courtesy of powering up Sonya's new gadget! Thru his soul weapons, it was enough juice to create it! They saw and heard the malicious face of a... familiar figure challenging the humans to his own Mortal Kombat if they should reach the Edenian Palace. It was mentioned a few times that Nightwolf first encountered Quan Chi, thus identifying the enemy which alarmed Aiko and Sub-Zero as well. He and she were the only ones who weren't influenced by the gem of Tetsurri, a crystallized heart the sorcerer possessed! He was successful on destroying the heart, aside from overcoming Quan's lethal pet snake! He stuck close to the cryomancer as the team dealt with the Army of Darkness, until the squads became overwhelming to them! Liu Kang declared they must separate!

Nightwolf and Sub-Zero stayed the longest enduring the devilish horde, until they overmatched the duo! They escaped to a gurney and the cryomancer attempted to make a huge, ice blockade, till they saw a silhouette of a beast with a blade protruding from each arm! He plowed thru every general, Oni and Shadow seamlessly, then he turned onto the heroes! Nightwolf took him on and remembered to keep his distance like he did with Sheeva a couple years ago! They noticed those deadly features belonged to Baraka, who fell to the likes of the strategic shaman! Sub-Zero froze the beast but they didn't kill him! Nightwolf demanded what side he was working on, to which Baraka spat out he works for no one and was sick of having his clan be dominated by overlords like Kahn. The duo wasn't buying it since Tarkans were known to be bloodthirsty maniacs, even during that time when he paid them to destroy the Wu Shi Academy; Baraka mentioned he was ordered to, but the heroes weren't convinced. Nightwolf then sensed another assailant and warned Kuai to evade him! The fiery streak melted Baraka's prison, but Scorpion was only after the Lin Kuei ninja! He lost as he didn't fight back, then Nightwolf displayed the data chip both he and Smoke analyzed from Sektor!

He also managed to enter Scorpion's mind, urging him to fight the darkness of his evil spirit. He was able to incapacitate him for a while as he shown him the data chip; the recordings had a fuzzy display and the conversations between Quan Chi and Bi-Han were muffled, but the meanings were still clear. The sorcerer hired the best thief to kill Scorpion and lend the bones of Scorpion's family as payment to the former Grandmaster!! Scorpion realized the small skull as his own son along with two others. The footage then shifted to Bi-Han's defeat by Scorpion, then Quan Chi literally unveiled everything between the ninjas and was about to send Hanzo into the Netherrealm, but both maniacs disappeared before the chip went blank.

Nightwolf was able to restore Hanzo's senses and the Matokan came to the conclusion that he'd been manipulated ever since his death; Quan Chi corrupt his soul feeding him lies and letting his dark wraith consume his body and mind! He remembered stories of the Great Kung Lao, even about Takeda, Baron's best friend, was also possessed by a wraith who lured Kung Lao to the Temple of Light and murdered Jen Reyland! Though it was Shang Tsung that made his undead vessel run amok then, as they were both capable of necromancy and wanted Lao's soul for either one or the other! Kuai assured Hanzo none of his actions was his fault but under the will of Quan Chi whom they were after. Baraka returned with his clan of Tarkatans and they were ravenous on tearing apart the demonic army since their DNA was mixed with theirs, he recognized Scorpion and Mileena, and couldn't wait to tear Quan Chi and Shnnok limb from limb. Nightwolf and the guys were flabbergasted as they saw the mutants charge toward the Edenian Palace without a proper plan!

He, Scorpion and Sub-Zero met up with the reinforcements, only temporarily since Hanzo gave them the slip as he attached to a nearby tree with his spear! The shaman was in disbelief, wondering if the vengeful wraith would learn from his mistakes and obsessions. He was only after Quan Chi, and Hanzo was the first to infiltrate the Palace! He was at the nick of time sparing Baraka as he strangled Quan by his spear! Nightwolf and Kuai ran up to the throne room, only to have Scorpion decapitate his family's true murderer! Raiden then urged Hanzo and Kuai to return Shinnok's Amulet to the Temple of Elements in Earthrealm, and he ordered Nightwolf to stay and fight in Edenia.

While Raiden, Fujin and Liu Kang went straight into the Netherrealm to retrieve Kung Lao and Aiko, he met up with Kitana and Jade at the Prison; the Edenian women were alarmed of their fate and Shinnok's corruption. Sonya offered to make a portal to the underworld, but the shaman said it wasn't possible. The Netherrealm was a literal Hell and technology had been unsuccessful, unless if a damned soul or a godly being can cross. However, he remembered when he was frustrated on the wild goose chase done by Kano as his teammates were growing weary. Raiden lectured that many mortals took tech for granted over gut instinct. He recognized Gray Cloud's potential on being a shaman and rely on his wits.

He did just that as he volunteered Kitana to trace Liu simply by focusing her thoughts and memories of him. By holding his tomahawk, they both found Liu struggling against the warlord inside the fiery Well with the Gods! He then offered his friends to offer him their energy, and thru the ritual, it dispelled Shinnok's drainage over Liu's heart! The monk's positive energy weakened and overwhelmed him! And by the time he noticed the Amulet was fake, he was powerless and decimated! Nightwolf met up with the former Champion and reminded him of Lao's and Aiko's fate. He returned to China after he assisted on recovering the doomed couple.

A few days later, he returned to Earthrealm for a while, until he discussed with the Edenian rulers, curious on how the Palace was invaded. Jade along with the monarchs stated that they must be more prepared for any future invitations from refugees, while also keeping in mind that only six realms exist, according to Raiden. Jade and Nightwolf noticed some snarls beneath them, and she recapped Baraka's rage. When he came to after Raiden's incapacitation, he and his kind blew the cavalry's cover by rushing into the fray and refusing to wear Cobalt armor which would've neutralized Quan Chi's machinations and using the Amulet. The royals decided to exile the ravenous mutants to Outworld on a permanent basis as they'd been too difficult to control after all the clans of Edenia reunited for the war, but not till after they cleaned out the prison beneath thanks to Mileena's failed insurrection!

Nightwolf was one of several warriors summoned as Raiden made his final farewell onto Earth.

Mortal Kombat: Vengeance[]

Nightwolf and Kiba admired the dawn as they left their technical den within the Wu Shi compound. Moments later, he saw Kung Lao prepared as ever for his early training. He admired how the prestigious monks were able to keep a steady routine in the wee hours, and he also smirked with him if Lao should best Liu in a battle. Kiba, however, wasn't so thrilled as he kept on sniffing him, then letting out a low growl. Lao left and Nightwolf became concerned of his wolf which immediately gave chase!

They headed straight to the Wu Shi Arena where they beheld the Deadly Alliance! Kiba kept on attacking one of his old enemies, Quan Chi, till he kicked him off! Nightwolf commandeered the wolf to merge with him and he and Raiden conjured electricity onto them! The warlords dissipated, leaving a lifeless Liu Kang behind... He mourned for his loss, until Raiden explained he managed to encase Liu's soul just before Shang got his clutches on it! Inside a dragon head, Liu emitted from it, and along with the REAL Lao and Aiko, he was determined to put a stop to the Deadly Alliance and allow Liu to rest after avenging him!

He, Lao and Aiko took a portal to Shang Tsung's Island after he noticed the surveillance had been fried during the lightning storm thus only recording the assault before he and Kiba intervened. He helped set up camp and began the ritual while Raiden was training Kung Lao to use Liu's soul in order to outmaneuver the Deadly Alliance. The shaman noted this process has happened numerous times in his tribe, but it was often very risky; he was confident if he and Kiba could gain prowess by merging, so can Lao and Liu! They must be in sync with each other, whether it'd be thoughts, movement, power level, and other factors. He remained close to Lao's side while he was suffering from the repercussions.

A few days later, Nightwolf hoped he would use his equipment to detect rips and make sure their oncoming acquaintances were legit; Aiko suggested for Kiba to be a sort of soul-sniffing hound to detect whether or not it's Shang in disguise. He also admired Lao's progress in his training, even wielding a large branch like a sword. The group met up with Sonya and Johnny via portal, and they were real. Fujin was still in the process of recruiting more Kombatants while Lao continued his training.

He soon reunited with Hanzo, Kuai, and met Frost, before the team was teleported to the Celestial Portal. He was intrigued of the place, especially when the Kombatants must overcome a challenge fighting a representation of their greatest enemies. Kung Lao took the call to arms and, with Liu's help, decimated his Revenant self. Nightwolf and Aiko took Lao's arms, though he was too hot and fatigued. Kuai and Frost rushed in and cooled him down, and Aiko gave him some of her strength. Raiden reminded the heroes they're on their own once they landed within the Living Forest; he and Lao spotted an ominous figure which was Jax! The shaman followed his wolf to him, in which his soul was clean. He was also relieved they went to Edenia and recruited Kitana and Jade. He and Sonya let Kung Lao and Aiko be as they revealed the dreadful news regarding the Deadly Alliance.

By the next day, he shown Aiko that her battle armor can churn into 3 shades (crimson, turquoise and lime), and since Sonya mentioned the heroes should wear Cobalt armor against Quan Chi again, the blue armor was convenient! Lao asked him if he could trace the immense darkness, locating the Deadly Alliance, ever since he detected Kahn's Fortress a few years ago; he pointed to the northwest, much to Jade's dismay since it was the Wastelands, Tarkatan territory and just above the Cobalt Mines. After bashing thru several Onis, Nightwolf became irritable over Lao's encounter involving his former sensei, Bo' Rai Cho! Even Kiba felt threatened by his disturbing presence. The group left him with disgust and Nightwolf told Lao he shouldn't feel ashamed from his fall from grace.

After the team reached the Lost Tomb, cleaned out all the ancient sarcophaguses consisting of Onaga's holy men, and defeated Moloch and Drahmin, Sonya queried where the sorcerers' dark auras were now. Nightwolf sensed their ominous energies, and to Jade's dread, they'd need to traverse thru the Sarna Ruins.

Nightwolf had little to no problem adjusting into the heat and humidity, never stopping during the tedious journey. That was until the team spotted a tornado, and he was startled to have Kung Lao approach it and decimate it from the inside! He conjured up his shamanistic skills to help clear the debris as Lao's Spin Time Brutality sliced up the funnel! Lao was at gravity's mercy till an invisible field caught him! Sonya, Jax, and Johnny were thrilled to reunite with Kenshi! Even he was enthralled by his psychokinetic skills!

It wasn't long before he noticed Aiko being entranced by the tribal drums; he heard and related them to his own but couldn't make out the message. She then followed the enticing drums, and the team gave chase into the cliff village of Makeba. The shaman was alarmed while he watched Aiko submit to Konga and his people, until Kenshi challenged him. He was successful and stole the Dragonfly! Nightwolf, Kung Lao and the cryomancers were the first to board it, before their other teammates. They escaped and soared toward the dark auras. Nightwolf and Kung Lao were relieved Aiko was her lucid, dazed self. He soon went with Kenshi to leave Lao with Aiko, hoping to rejuvenate her mind.

After the Dragonfly landed while Sonya spotted Cyrax, he commandeered Kiba to sniff the severed arm console and smell the air. Surely, Kiba picked up Cyrax's scent and they followed to a dormant volcano! The Special Forces agents and the cryomancers headed in while the Matokan stayed put with the rest of the group. He was astonished that Baraka decided to assist them, even the fact that he knew Aiko well and came from the same dystopian future she did!

He was neutral as he noticed Bo' Rai Cho being a stowaway and having some lethal bickering against Baraka, but it was Aiko who believed the Tarkatan; the drunk, who was now sober, claimed to go with the heroes to the Palace to save Li Mei and her people from harm, and he taught the Matokan a new move known as the Soul Drain, thus reducing the Deadly Alliance's vitalities.

Nightwolf and Kiba were unscathed after the Dragonfly crashed! Kung Lao and Aiko soon followed, while the shaman was hesitant on conjuring his ancestors' strength to revitalize the group; he was reluctant since it'd attract enemies. Fortunately, they were in the clear until Kenshi and Kiba sensed there was distress within the underground tunnels before the source of the immense darkness. Unfortunately, they encountered a dying prisoner who warned of the Soulnado as his mind was read by Kenshi, then the two malicious Onis dealt with the heroes, particularly Baraka and Hanzo. Luckily, they barely survived the ordeals. Nightwolf confirmed the Palace was indeed the source of the immense darkness emanating from the Deadly Alliance. He then merged with Kiba as he and the heroes, minus Kenshi and Jax, were busy dealing with the Tarkatan army, until the God brothers came to their aide.

At the Tarkatan War Kamp, Lao meditated next to the bonfire with Aiko and Nightwolf. He soon woke up as the shaman was ready to pass on the new broth which was said to help focus their minds even in midst of rage. He assured he made this broth before he'd deal with an intense situation. And he mentioned to Aiko that they'll just feel a minor headache before they fight, contrary to feeling loopy on her past foreign medications. Aiko passed it around while Lao discussed with the Kombatants; they weren't certain who Lao's wingman'd be, though Liu was. Lao wondered how long he was out of it, which was a few hours; Nightwolf stated he sleeps like the dead, and Liu added why he's often late for class. After the team was ready to march onto enemy territory, the heroes soon witnessed the Soulnado, and Fujin ordered Lao to assist him on shutting down the source of endless souls! Nightwolf said he was hapless on stopping the volatile storm as there were too many distressed spirits. So Fujin ushered Lao to decimate the funnel, and the portal closed!

Courtesy of Aiko's heart gem, it invigorated Lao's and Nightwolf's energy! They witnessed Raiden struggling against the Deadly Alliance, and Liu's soul went straight for Lao's body! They merged once more, making aerosol moves while Nightwolf volunteered with his soul-empowered weapons and draining their vitality! He hatched the Deadman's Volley strategy, forcing some of Quan's attacks back, although he had little chance against Shang. With the ferocious Whirlwind technique and some assistance, Lao switched between Quan and Shang, though the familiar blanch sorcerer was his main target! At one point, the Matokan was at Shang's mercy, even deceived Quan on drawing him closer via possession to be struck by his tools, then Nightwolf intervened with the Jack the Ripper strategy! The punctures were able to make the sorcerers vulnerable, and Kenshi, despite his ribcage injury, assisted him by slicing Quan's neck! Courtesy of Aiko's crystallized heart, it increased his vitality tremendously. And Lao became irate and rained down severe blows till he conjured his Tornado Brutality!! Shang and the funnel eventually exploded! Leaving a wounded Lao in its wake.

Kenshi and Nightwolf carried him to the Nethership. Raiden and Liu declared he's the new Champion and equal to the chosen monk!

After the Nethership landed near the Academy, Nightwolf decided to take a little shuteye with Kiba. Until he received a night terror of Onaga being resurrected in Outworld!! He decreed to Lao, Aiko, Jin, his mom, Kai and the monks who were mourning for Liu Kang.

The Return of the Dragon King[]

During Liu Kang's ceremony as a final farewell to his resting spirit, Nightwolf received night terrors of Onaga! He soon alerted everyone that the Dragon King's resurrection has been prophesized, thus halting the ritual! He alerted Kitana, Sonya, Jax and Johnny of the new threat and she created the portal that led to Shang Tsung's Palace where the God brothers were fighting against the monstrosity! Lao took on the offensive first, but it wasn't long before he was wounded. Lao summoned Liu Kang's fiery dragon spirit back into the amulet before it was decimated, when Sonya, Jax, Johnny, Kitana and Nightwolf got involved. Needless to say, their efforts were futile, and Raiden was too weak from the scrimmage. All he did was observe his mentor conjure lightning into himself! Fujin knew what was coming and before the fighters knew it, they were each caught in the explosion decimating the Palace and leaving only a scratch on Onaga!

It was fortunate he was still alive as he abruptly awakened on the cot within his tech den at the Academy. Kiba was whimpering beside him, as if he too endured the same terrors of Onaga. He recalled Raiden urging him to make the secret weapon, an EMP, as well as use his ancestors' spirits to conjure a pure rainstorm to expedite Raiden's recovery. He merged with Kiba again before he got to work! Minutes later, he met up with Kenshi, Aiko, Kung Lao, Ermac, Hanzo and Liu's spirit as they were chasing after the omnipotence near the Temple of Light. He sensed immense evil emanating from a distant heap just as his alarm system picked it up! The occurrence turned out to be Raiden as his more corrupt self with Liu's reanimated corpse as his enforcer! They both wreaked havoc over the providence, until Lao and Fujin failed to best the dark god in kombat! Just as Lao was at Raiden's mercy, Nightwolf tackled him away! He urged him to take cover within the soul-enhanced field as the rainstorm's lightning struck Dark Raiden directly!! The more benevolent electrokinetic offered his assistance restoring the fallen victims. He teleported Fujin to the Jinsei Chamber as he dreaded for the shaman to be prepared for the lethal Sin Eater ritual, only if Onaga's weak enough.

Raiden took him there via portal, and the Matokan got to work near the area of the Outworld runes showcasing the resurrection of Onaga and his undead army. He then noticed a bright blue glimmer and Frost and Smoke noticed the scuffle. They put up their dukes until the cyborg noticed it was only him! They decided to defend him in the first sign of danger since Onaga and his thugs were still at large, while also awaiting the return of Kuai and Sareena from the Netherrealm. He was empowering his weapons using the souls he consumed from the Matokan burial ground, but it just wasn't renough; he needed more sinful spirits and he figured Onaga's army had plenty! Frost became worried he might be consumed over the process which made him remember meeting Shujinko years ago as he went thru spiritual training by him; before he was pursuing higher learning, several years passed, and they weren't in the first tournament. He then had Kiba and stayed away from the dormitories soon after...

Baraka met up with the trio and alerted Onaga's army's advancing. Nightwolf prayed that the Champions would be successful, so he'd perform the Sin Eater while Onaga was taking the form of Reptile.

He absorbed every fallen impure soul before his body and mind began to give away from the added stress. He headed into the underworld and built the Devil's Trap. Raiden soon gave him the signal, emanating from his soul-empowered weapon, that Onaga was weak enough to encase. He was successful as the Dragon King's essence took the form of his outline as he oozed out of Reptile. He had the same voice as Damashi, but wrathful, and Ashrah escorted both Kombatants into the Jinsei Chamber for recovery and purifying the Orientals' souls, while transitioning Liu's into his lifeless vessel. The shaman assisted Raiden and Fujin within the chamber after he let out Kiba who carried the tomahawk to the spectators to use their prayers for guidance. Minutes dragged on until Lao was the first to awaken, sooner than Liu, as his body and mind were free. Liu took longer to recuperate, and even though the process was slow, it was proven successful. The quartet emerged and the Matokan was proud to have Liu and Lao reunited while also sharing the title as Champions and saviors of the realms without the eternal curse.

Final Kombat[]

At first, Nightwolf was seen as his Revenant self in Aiko's dystopian future, joined by Liu, Lao, Kabal, Kuai, Stryker and Kitana as they intruded an abandoned sanctuary as they followed her and her refugee kamp demanding it for ransom! Aiko then found a defective automobile and was about to ram it into the legion until she was suddenly sent back in time!

The real Nightwolf met up with Liu, Lao and Aiko as they were summoned by Raiden to the portal of the Dragon Grotto while avoiding the traps. Just like Aiko, Raiden, and Liu Kang, he too had been receiving some visions of Armageddon. He offered to record the summons since Fujin was late on recruiting the Special Forces. And he soon got involved with the espionage of the Netherrealm with Aiko, Lao, Raiden, Hanzo and Frederick as he strongly believed that their nemeses shall be hatching plans for their fierce melee.

Nightwolf went with the group en route to Kharon's Ship, though they needed to wait as Raiden negotiated a ride from the captain himself. He was one of the most adaptable Kombatants as the damned legions intruded the ship while also dealing with the toxic chemicals the Sea of Blood was emitting and the choppy current! Alas, he wasn't able to prevent Aiko from falling off the ship, instead it was Caro! He was, however, a vital part of the team as they ascended thru Shinnok's Spire until they'd breached the top floor. Raiden was outraged that Taven had been deceived by Shinnok's words as he assisted to clean house from the "intruders." But it wasn't long before Lao and Aiko sensed the deformed demon, but not his usual self! He stated he made a diffusion of himself, separating into two, and leaving himself weak from the exertion; Nightwolf was infuriated with Lao as Shinnok mimicked Aiko's cardiokinesis during their last encounter, thus creating the heart gem and also restoring his distant memories of Kronika and Cetrion! The shaman felt somewhat synpathetic of the corruption of his family and the ignorant Elder Gods, though there was still so much concerning Armageddon. They soon returned to Earth via Caro's portal for R&R.

Nightwolf shown Frederick the rounds as he and Kenshi let the Gods be while Lao, Aiko and Caro went to the Dragon Grotto and Taven was sent to pursue Orin. The shaman eventually paused as Kenshi offered to keep an ear out, and they both wondered if that mysterious Oriental who destroyed the Red Dragon base, rescued Caro, sent him to the Netherrealm for assistance and hypothesized by Raiden on preventing Armageddon was Liu Kang though a different incarnate thru time. Much as how Aiko was sent back. Nightwolf also wondered that since Shinnok split into two, that the weakened original was capable of manipulating antimatter while his stronger double'd still control matter and darkness.

He was soon chosen as one of the test subjects for the trials the Kombatants must partake before Armageddon; Raiden informed him, Aiko, Frederick and Kai of the Tests of Might, Sight, and Balance before the first tournament, as one rep had to be chosen for each faction if he passed, Liu did with flying colors although Lao lagged, Liu was chosen and he became skeptical thus leaving for America, so Lao was chosen by default until Liu returned after Chan's death. Thus, with Liu returning from the discussion in Edenia, they participated as the godly brothers judged and tallied the results. Nightwolf merged with Kiba again before them and he was able to make it to ruby, he was tied with Frederick up to seven cups in the second round and barely made it over the balancing beam. Overall, he won second under the talented Monks! He and the other Kombatants were then invited by Raiden to hang out in the Edenian soiree, although Lao and Frederick stayed with Aiko.

Moments later, Nightwolf listened in on the god brothers' conversation while he began to build energy into himself and his soul weapons absorbing his ancestors' spirits to transfer to the other Kombatants. He realized the experiments with Aiko's heart gems had been successful emanating positive energy onto the recipient similar though having the contrary effect of the Gem of Tetsurri. He, Aiko and Raiden recalled the incident and took advantage of it as the monks offered the stored gems for the heroes to use in Armageddon; the same energy gave them intel on what's to come. He was soon prepared before he, Lao and Fujin went to Edenia.

With Kiba still merged in him, he rode on the Netherwing to the southern crater. He was one of the heroes awed by Fire God Liu Kang's sudden arrival and fought well behind the scenes. Until he came across his old nemesis, Quan Chi! By the time the Pyramid rose, he still functioned as a distant archer shooting down any intruders he could. Luckily, he survived the ordeal and he and Fujin managed Kiba to help find a mate, a female wolf as he was always in heat which would eventually give him a fresh litter and a new generation of Nightwolf's sentient companion. He was still a decent protector of Earthrealm several years later.

Kontentment[]

Nightwolf, albeit time-displaced before Aiko's dystopian future, was seen with Fujin and Shang as the latter stopped Liu Kang from utilizing the Hourglass without Kronika's Crown. He was convinced that reality would be destroyed if that should happen, and he stuck with Fujin and Shang until he was killed. He was completely contrary to reformed timeline.

Koherence[]

Soon after the war with Onaga, he received a spiritual message from his ancestors and the Matoka that he's needed in the sacred land; he hadn't visited there in so long since Kahn's invasion and being shunned by his tribe. Only this time, their youngest was honored to be given his Matokan name and be adopted in which he didn't want to miss. Raiden also alerted him of the same thing, though Aiko became touchy especially since it was hasty.

CrowCamp

Fortunately, in Raiden's, Lao's, Liu's and Nightwolf's stead, she would be personally trained by Kenshi to master coherence. Raiden opened the portal to the East Coast, and they were on their way, staying there for 5 days of the kid's preparations. Not much happened, excepting that Fujin oversaw the tribe being more acceptable to modern customs while staying with tradition. He was close with the kid, even when he was fascinated on becoming a warrior like Liu and Lao. By the time the day finally came, he was the first to arrive with the elder standing beside the large teepee till the kid was ready. He was greatly engrossed with the ceremony as was Lao who followed with the Matoka's drumbeats and chants. He could've sworn that Nightwolf and Raiden were the interpreters. Although, it wasn't until their heart gems the quartet held onto igniting and glistening after the two riveting numbers by Aiko and Fujin's band breaking the thralls! It did become hard to say goodbye to his old family but still grateful they'd reconciled.

Fire God Liu Kang described to Lao and Aiko that thru the Hourglass, he was able to trace back her distant lineage as well as the Makeba being ancestors of the aboriginals of Earth. He came to the conclusion that the Matoka were Aiko's ancestors from eons ago after her European line immigrated!

Unaliving War[]

Nightwolf was proven vital, since he was already a Revenant alongside Liu, and assisted Aiko utilizing her dark strength on summoning and enlisting the Makeba at Outworld. With them and their drums in unison, Aiko unleashed her elation as she pranced around the bonfire, brightening Liu's glee. Since then, the shaman had been the leader in converting the living to their cause before the war of the Elder Gods. He seems to embrace the umbra, tribal customs just as Liu, Aiko and Lao do...

He described to the trio, even converting Kung Jin in whom he became a close mentor towards, of the annual Tribal Ceremonies. He even brought Kiba and his new mate as he reunited with his past brethren as they decided to prepare for the Unaliving War.

Trivia[]

  • Ikran included him as 2nd place in her Top 10 Tribal Characters.
  • Since he was so iconic in her childhood, there was only one VA that made the cut for her stories, Tod Thawley!
  • She wanted Kung Lao and Nightwolf, her two upmost favorite characters, to have a good cowboy-Indian dynamic; contrary to those archaic Western cliches.
  • In the Darkseid War roleplay, it is mentioned that Nightwolf, part of Emperor Liu Kang's brethren, has assisted in undead conversion with him, Aiko, and their black heart gems. He was able to convert the Makeba tribe to enhance their black arts and undead conversion onto many denizens in various realms, even using his Black Arts as a member of the Brotherhood of Shadow.
