Oniro was a character from Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm and was the former Grandmaster of the Lin Kuei before its reformation.
It's not known how long Oniro held the title of Grandmaster except that he was present before the order was given to automate their ninja assassins. He was present when both Cyrax and Sektor went through the cybernetic process at which point both Sub-Zero and Smoke refused to take part in. The two friends attempted to escape the Lin Kuei but only Sub-Zero managed to escape while Oniro captured Smoke and forced him to undergo the cybernetic process.
Despite forcing many of his former students into becoming cyber ninjas, Oniro himself remained human. He would later attempt to hunt down Sub-Zero with the automated Smoke, but this failed when Smoke regained his memory and went against his programming. The Grandmaster would fall into a chasm but managed to transform into a large bird to escape his death.
Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, Part II[]
Oniro was seen upon the Appalachian Mountains, forcing Smoke to resubmit to the Lin Kuei Clan. Sub-Zero came to the vulnerable fugitive's aid but was unsuccessful. Kung Lao, Aiko and Nightwolf noticed the warring Lin Kuei over a summit, and Aiko gave Lao a unique idea to ambush in his cheetah Animality! He was on an even keel with Oniro especially with his cat claws, but Lao's transformation didn't hold for long...
He was at a disadvantage as his normal, fleshy self, and Oniro just had enough force to have him fall off the precipice, The Grandmaster thought it was over, but he was abruptly ambushed from behind his neck! Lao escaped since he had the ability to teleport!! Oniro was taken aback and managed to fly away in his hawk form! Lao was enraged, conjuring a Tornado to never let him escape! Aiko desired the same as she conjured her new cardiokinetic abilities, just enough strength to explode his heart like a tomato! Oniro fell with its dead carcass to only the Elder Gods knew where...
It's most likely his abilities were enhanced via Dragon Medallion...
Final Kombat[]
Oniro was once dreaded by the Lin Kuei after Raiden summoned their higher ups concerning Armageddon. The rumors were true as Oniro teamed up with Sektor in the battle, although he was anxious to steal Kuai's Dragon Medallion away to have his position restored as former Grandmaster. That was until he was ganged up by Frost and Bi-Han, especially the latter who punched him in the face several times while Oniro was haplessly frozen! He claimed that only Kuai is the rightful leader of their clan! Luckily, he didn't last very long as he was still immobilized then incinerated by Blaze's and Liu's firestorm.
