Orin is a golden Guardian Dragon of the realm of Edenia, who was ordered by Edenia's Protector God Argus to awaken his sons Taven and Daegon in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon.
Orin, however, stayed dutiful to Taven until the very end, when Quan Chi teleported to the cavern the brothers were entombed in and dealt Orin a mortal wound to prevent him from transporting Taven anywhere. However, Orin had just enough strength left after the attack to hold open Quan Chi's escape portal to Outworld for Taven, allowing him to chase after the sorcerer. His final fate is unknown, though the ending of the Konquest mode suggests that he has died as well.
Final Kombat[]
Orin had watched over the sleeping Taven for many years, until he was able to break out of his monolith! Orin was indeed surprised to see him awake after so long, and he'd no recollection on being unconscious while talking with Argus. He was also puzzled as to why he wound up in Earthrealm instead of Edenia, and Orin stated that his father left some weapons and armor behind to prepare him on a special quest. He conjured a portal to his first destination, the Botan Jungle, en route to Argus' temple.
Sadly, the weapons and armor weren't there, and the pyramid was taken over by the Red Dragons. However, upon hearing of the Tekunin warship incident and Sektor, he assigned Taven to head to Arctika!
Taven soon returned only to inform him that he found the Red Dragons' location in Charred Mountain. He wondered if Taven was ready to confront Blaze, to which he replied he wasn't as he still needed to find the stolen weapon from Argus' Temple; he believed Daegon might've taken it first, despite Orin noticing Taven's newer suit of armor. With a hint of discouragement, Orin granted Taven the portal even though his companion disregarded the dragon's worries.
Orin was met up by Taven soon after, only his friend was filled with bewilderment. Orin sympathized with his plight as he found out of Daegon's betrayal and forming the Red Dragon clan, possibly inspired by Caro; he was awakened centuries earlier than him and he wanted to organize his own clan while also destroying Taven. He grew infuriated of the so-called competition between them as Orin mentioned, and Taven wondered if Daegon actually killed their parents. All he did was sulk at his and Taven's depression on what Daegon and Blaze had done....
Orin eventually sent Taven to the Netherrealm to chase after Daegon. Minutes later, he was attacked by Quan Chi in an attempt to stall Taven from progressing and preventing Armageddon from happening. Luckily, however, he was spared by the mysterious Oriental who seemed to have godlike abilities, including wielding fire, lightning, and exceptional martial arts. Orin had no idea who he was, though he hastily offered the dragon to leave his perch since he was now a target for their enemies. Orin was reluctant but he still went into the portal leading to the Yin Yang Island after he was healed by Jinsei energy. He soon written and buried a letter stating his predicament, then he telepathically communicated with Taven assuring he's safe and he would continue the quest. He also stated this could all be a setup involving Shinnok, Daegon and Blaze,,,
He warned Taven it was a ploy to rev them up for Armageddon, so that they could not only compete, but also kill each other. By having either son defeat Blaze, he'd be corrupt while attaining his flames. He wasn't able to tell him as he was only assigned to watch over Taven until his time to awaken. Though the Oriental assured everyone has a right to choose their own destiny, and so Taven decided to continue the quest while also reason with Daegon. Orin then made the portal leading to Outworld, upon the elemental's discretion. He wished him luck before Caro reunited with him! They decided to watch over Taven and his allies together even if Armageddon should strike to as consultants.
After Caro conjured a portal to help Hanzo and Taven escape from Kahn's Fortress, the quartet calmed, although the red dragon remained uneasy as he wondered how and why he lost Blaze's telepathic connection, thus Daegon's premature awakening and corruption as Caro thought it was a sign of Armageddon. By the Edenian's suggestion, the Oriental volunteered to investigate Blaze's predicament following him back from the time he met with Kitana. From there, he rewound several millennia to the Lava Shrine where Blaze remained stuck in a pool as Onaga's egg was being incubated and surrounded by his holy men. By the time the egg hatched and possessed Reptile's body. Blaze was no longer shackled. Caro was relieved he was only imprisoned by the Dragon King's fanatics, and they continued to monitor over Taven.
He soon discovered that the Red Dragons had another rivaling faction, the Black Dragons, who broke off from Daegon's clan due to their tyranny; no surprise since Daegon turned corrupt. Orin with Caro were also astonished that a rogue member from the Lin Kuei broke off and formed the Shirai Ryu as well, thus having them kill each other even before the first tournament. Unlike Taven and Daegon, Kuai and Hanzo buried the hatchet, and the Oriental wished that Bi-Han would do the same... He also assured the Red Dragons had been trapped and severely wounded in the firebomb, so it's likely they won't interfere in the final battle against Blaze.
Orin still encouraged for Taven even after he killed his brother in bloody kombat, as he hopes Taven can accomplish the corrupt quest and save all of existence from Blaze's rage.
Turned out that Taven offered his weapon to Fire God Liu Kang who led the charge. Orin was indeed shocked as he and Caro watched the Edenian collapse, the medallion shattered, and Blaze destroyed the Pyramid. He was, however, fortunate that Taven survived, courtesy of Liu's fire cocoon from Blaze's decimating flames and Cetrion's tears.
He then met Taven who was reflecting at the Edenian Ruins, the same place before he was blackened out and Orin was assigned to watch over Taven. He'd forever miss Argus and Delia but was glad that Taven attained godhood for Edenia taking Argus' place. He, Taven, and Aiko said goodbye to Caro at Yin Yang Island before he went with the elder Liu Kang and Kitana thru time travel. He still remained as Taven's guardian and a crucial ally to Earthrealm with the Ruins as their new home.

Kontentment[]
Orin was seen along with Daegon, Taven, Caro, Delia and Argus as they defended Edenia from Shao Kahn and his forces in the first Mortal Kombat tournament, even when Fire God Liu Kang and Kitana participated.
Trivia[]
- Being that the guardian dragons' mouths never move when they speak, it may be implied they talk to people telepathically, much as like Mewtwo in Pokémon.
- In the oneshot, Kontentment, Caro unveiled that Fire God Liu Kang assisted him, Orin, Argus, Delia, Taven and Daegon during the first tournament against Shao Kahn, before Liu erased all of his deeds due to the tragedy of the Great Kung Lao. It was thru that experience in which he and Kitana recognized the dragons and the Edenians, thus saving Orin and Caro in Final Kombat and assisting Taven in Armageddon!
