Overview[]
Created by the Edenian god, Argus, as the final battleground and the Elder Gods' safeguard should Armageddon occur, this pyramid rises forth when one of Argus' sons falls in battle. The triumphant son of Argus then steps through a nearby portal, instantly teleporting them to the top of the pyramid to confront the fire elemental Blaze.
Downstairs, all Kombatants (possibly fifty to sixty) wage war against one another in an epic conflict of good versus evil and eventually race to the top to gain the power promised should anyone defeat Blaze. Once Blaze is defeated, the vanquisher gains the immense power contained within Blaze, essentially gaining godlike power.
Though anyone can obtain this power, Argus meant for only the stronger of his two sons (Taven and Daegon) to gain this power and stop Armageddon.
Final Kombat[]
During the first part of the story, Raiden and Liu Kang received terrors of the Battle of Armageddon taking place there; at the southern crater of Edenia, all the heroes, and the villains, were involved in bloody kombat and soon the Pyramid arose from beneath the ground. The top of the structure was soon engulfed in fire while a monstrosity emerged! By the time the first vision ended, Raiden noticed on his amulet cracks began to form, signaling the beginning of the end... As Earth's chosen and a close associate to Raiden, Liu's been suffering from these visions as well.
Tens of thousands of years ago, Argus told Delia that the erection of the Pyramid was complete, and Blaze was created before he put Taven and Daegon to sleep. He declared the pyramid as the battleground of Armageddon.
Kourtesy of Shinnok as his weak self after his diffusion, he created a black heart gem and sent a vision of Raiden being gravely weak atop the Pyramid and at Shao Kahn's mercy by his Hammer, although he only had enough strength and time to utter three cryptic words, He must win. The actual Raiden soon believed it may be that mysterious Oriental that had been assisting the heroes indirectly, as he figured he may be a different incarnate of Liu Kang.
It was described by Queen Sindel and Jerrod that the pyramid was built as the last stronghold where all the Kombatants and the realms shall meet their end according to ancient legends.
The new Edenian airship, the Netherwing, flies there taking the involved Kombatants for their final showdown while hoping to make a preemptive strike on their enemies. It was still submerged underground until Taven defeated Daegon and crossed the portal at the Edenian Ruins triggering its ascent. The battle raged by then and everyone was awed by the emergence and Blaze awaiting them. Stryker sucker punched Rain kickstarting the fatal climb! Fire God Liu Kang was appalled and urged as many warriors as possible to stay put, although aside from Kung Lao, Taven and Fujin, no one listened! He then spotted the Khameleons blending in as two of the side statues and urged them to take him up so he can confront Blaze, while the trio remained to fend off intruders and assist the leader. There were a few adversaries Liu decimated, and he attempted to communicate with him via pyrokineis; Blaze expressed his torment and was willing to destroy everything and everyone; Liu then fought the fire spawn, and he performed a desperation attack as he prepared to explode! Liu and Raiden changed the flames trajectory aloft while also making a flame shield to protect his friends from impact which resulted in his sacrifice... The Pyramid was decimated as Blaze erupted like a super volcano. Only a small portion of the structure remained.
Trivia[]
- The pyramid's top serves as the background for the Kreate a Fighter interface in MK: Armageddon.
- The pyramid makes a brief cameo in Green Lantern's ending, where it becomes the battle site between the Green Lantern Corps and the Sinestro Corps.
- In the opening of Mortal Kombat (2011), the Battle of Armageddon is fought on top of the Pyramid by the only two survivors: Shao Kahn and Dark Raiden. Shao Kahn ultimately defeats Blaze, absorbs his powers, and kills Raiden and destroys all of reality, but not before Raiden sends a message to his past self in the first Mortal Kombat tournament.
- The pyramid also makes a cameo in Mortal Kombat 11 as seen in Raiden's flashback, where he, as Dark Raiden, is fighting undead Liu Kang.
