Syzoth, more commonly referred to as Reptile, is a character in the Mortal Kombat fighting game series. He is one of the few original characters, debuting in the original Mortal Kombat arcade game as a secret character. He made his playable debut in Mortal Kombat II.
Since his debut, Reptile has been a well-known servant to the Outworld Empire, faithfully serving the Outworld Emperors Shao Kahn and Kotal Kahn while remaining loyal to his master Shang Tsung.
In the New Era timeline depicted in Mortal Kombat 1, the Zaterrans were no longer extinct. However, Syzoth became an outcast among his people for having the ability to shapeshift into a human-like appearance. Unlike his previous incarnations who hid his reptilian appearance behind a mask, this version can freely shapeshift between his human appearance and his true Saurian form. He was a circus performer before also being blackmailed by Shang Tsung into working for him, as the sorcerer held his wife and son hostages. However, when Shang Tsung revealed that he lied about keeping Syzoth's family safe and killed them behind the Zaterran's back instead, Syzoth is recruited by Fire God Liu Kang to fight against an upcoming threat. Following the events of Story Mode, he develops a romantic relationship with a demon huntress Ashrah.

Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, Part II[]
Reptile was mistaken by Kung Lao, as he had a flashback fighting and killing him at his own lair within the Living Forest. He took the fight against Komodai and his Saurian army when he assumed it was him.
Shinnok's Uprising[]
Under the name of Syzoth, as well as his devolution, he was planning to reform the Saurian race during the union of Edenia against Shinnok. No one knew of his ulterior motive, until his cover was being blown after the Elder God's defeat! He ran from the crowd only to be mauled by another Saurian who was well aware of his true colors, the invincible ninja clad in rainbow garb, Chameleon!!
Mortal Kombat: Vengeance[]
It was stated by Baraka that Reptile was a very close ally to him in his dystopian future, before he was abruptly sent back in time. He was scouting for him until he found the younger Aiko and saved her. Baraka summarized that if the rumors are true, Onaga may be using Reptile's body as an uberous upon his resurrection! He decided to tag along with the Kombatants to prevent the Deadly Alliance on doing so!
Return of the Dragon King[]
Reptile already had his body intruded by Onaga in the Lava Shrine, as the egg hatched and shot an energy beam into him! To Baraka's horror, his theory was proven true, as he mentioned to Nightwolf, Smoke and Frost he was following Kung Lao and Fujin before they disappeared into a portal as he tried to warn them; he could tell it was a Saurian because of the rancid odor emanating from Onaga, even making out his body features. It was proven in the Nexus when Onaga's soul was oozing away as Nightwolf performed the Sin Eater ritual, imprisoning his soul in the Netherrealm! Havik was about to make the final cut till Ermac forced him into the Chaosrealm portal; he took him to Raiden's Sky Temple for recovery.
It took him a little while but by the time he began to hiss, everyone knew he was growing irritated. The Chameleons, and the Saurians in the infantry, escorted their general to Zaterra.
Final Kombat[]
Just like with Komodai, they returned to overthrow the benevolent chameleons governing the Saurian race. Fortunately, the Chameleons bested him and Komodai in kombat before they were tossed down by Fujin from the Pyramid of Argus, then incinerated by the firestorm conjured by Blaze and Fire God Liu Kang.
