The Saurians, also known as Raptors and Zaterrans, are a species found in Mortal Kombat.

The Saurians are reptilian humanoids who originated in Earthrealm, having evolved from the dinosaurs. Standing on two legs and having bigger brains than their ancestors, they have the potential for more complex thought. They can also appear to alter their form to become invisible or look human.

The first Mortal Kombat movie depicts the Saurians, as demonstrated by Reptile, have the ability to shapeshift into statue form (or just look like one) and their true Raptor form. They also possess the ability to blend in with their environment through the use of a highly effective camouflage that renders them almost completely invisible. A trio of similar creatures appear in the sequel, where they fight Raiden.

Mortal Kombat: Conquest also depicts their diet as consisting of live bugs and worms, served in a large bowl, as revealed in the episode In Kold Blood when Reptile ravenously consumes his squirming meal in a large clay bowl during his candlelight dinner with Kreeya.

They have a matriarchal society, and any Saurian that has drifted away from the influence of the matriarch, or a surrogate slowly begins to lose their ability to look human. Their saliva is comprised of powerful corrosive fluids that can easily burn right through steel or human flesh, much like acid. This saliva is so powerful that it even kills other Saurians, as demonstrated in Mortal Kombat: Conquest.

Notable Members[]

Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, Part II[]

Both Kung Lao and Liu Kang kept remembering fighting off Reptile and his snake at his dungeon in the Living Forest. Three months after the events of Defenders of the Realm took place, the former monk approached an invading gang led by Komodai, an enemy of Sonya was once and Jax. He used his hat and caused some loose rocks to tumble onto the advancing Saurian, then he leapt into the fray with their slick leader. He actually mistaken him to be Reptile. As soon as he turned invisible and continuously fired energy spheres, Kung Lao attacked all sides by his Tornado moves, putting Komodai at a disadvantage. Eventually, he was slew by the monk via his razor-rimmed hat, and the retreating Saurians had a worse fate as they were haplessly caught in his massive tornado, making their bodies and souls scatter!

Mortal Kombat: Shinnok's Uprising[]

Kung Lao, Aiko and Kitana were ambushed by a Saurian general at the middle of a desolated bog. The monk took the call to arms as the Zaterran spat acid into Kitana's face while Aiko tended her. With past experience, Lao had the homefield advantage despite the slippery silt keeping his distance and using his hat as a projectile and cover for the corrosive poison. Lao defeated him but by the time Kitana recovered, he prevented Lao on killing the enemy. She made him identify himself as Syzoth, a Saurian general. And he looked like a devolved version of Reptile. He escorted the trio to the Ruins of Zaterra which had been neglected for years.

The rebel convinced the other Saurians to be prepared and fight back the forces of Quan Chi and Shinnok. There was also a discussion involving the first cataclysmic battle millions of years ago, the one in which the fallen Elder God triggered the extinction of the Saurians and dinosaurs with the Earth encased in darkness for centuries. Though Raiden was able to have some Saurians escape to Zaterra, but they'd always been vicious and territorial due to defending themselves from the corruption of Outworld and their plight of their species. Aiko can't help but feel sorry for them. When the war's over, they can restore their civilization with the aid of other tribes, maybe evolve into their humanoid selves.

Lao and Aiko were surprised Zaterra was the home of a vicious ruler named Tetsurri which triggered her flashbacks of the warmongering gem, the crystallized heart of that said leader which was manipulated by Quan Chi!

Syzoth made a sneaky ulterior motive serving Shinnok and breaking the news.

The Saurians also gave Lao and Aiko some techniques on stealth, including camouflage involving leafy clothing and dark warpaint that'd help them blend into the night and thick vegetation as the two trekked through the swamp. Johnny questioned of their weird getup, though Sonya was impressed. They soon rallied up with the uniting Shokans and Centaurs.

The Saurians hid themselves amongst the shadows and were equipped with Cobalt armor along with other heroes such as Kung Lao, Aiko, Kitana, Sonya and Cage. They made their move and stormed to the Palace. Several tribesmen volunteered to offer their strength to Liu Kang utilizing Nightwolf's metaphysics on allowing their energy pass over into the Netherrealm. The ritual was successful, and by the time the heroes won, Syzoth slipped away only to be mauled by Chameleon! He stated to Kitana that he and his partner, the female Khameleon, shall reform their race under her benevolent rule.

Return of the Dragon King[]

The Saurians were enlisted by the Edenian royal guard as they head murmurs of Onaga's resurrection; they were the first to spring their traps onto the Dragon King's army by raining down acid or fighting them while being invisible. They soon fought off the Dragon's soldiers along with the Shokan, Centaurs, Kuai, Smoke, Sareena, Frost, the time-displaced Baraka, Nightwolf and the two Chameleons leading the faction; Chameleon and Khameleon were the most vital warriors heading their independent species and striking back the Dragon's terroristic army! They had soon succeeded as they received word Onaga's been separated from Reptile and many of his forces had fallen.

Several of the Saurians were escorted to the Jinsei Chamber for recuperation and they soon brought their generals back to the realm of Zaterra.

Final Kombat[]

The Saurians still remained as strong as ever, even as Edenia's protectors. Khameleon and Chameleon were their promising generals, she even retrieved Mileena from Kahn's Fortress after they picked up on the discussions in the throne room as the denizens, Liu and Kitana prepare for Armageddon. They stuck by the other monarchs as they beheld Blaze's destruction onto the Pyramid of Argus, and they'd been grateful for the heroes' survival, despite grieving for the deaths of Liu and Raiden. The Chameleons blended as pair of statues at the structure's bottom layer until Liu urged them to teleport him, Lao, Taven and Fujin up to confront Blaze and defend the Pyramid from enemies, before they warped back. They survived thanks to the fire cocoon Liu conjured over Blaze's eruption. They still remained as allies to Edenia even against Kotal and his new minions. Reptile and Komodai were a couple enemies involved in the melee until Fujin tossed them off the Pyramid.
