Shujinko is a character in the Mortal Kombat fighting game series. He made his debut in Mortal Kombat: Deception as the main character and protagonist of Konquest Mode.
Shujinko made his debut in Mortal Kombat: Deception as the game's rogue protagonist. He is an adventurer who, as a boy, dreamed of fighting Shang Tsung. He has traveled the realms and learned the kombat skills of many warriors. Without knowledge, Shujinko has done many evil deeds such as: offering Lei Chen to Hotaru, acting like a mercenary of some sort, using Bo' Rai Cho's warrior medallion to gain such credibility to join the Lin Kuei, being deceived by Damashi and challenging the Elder Gods for powers. His old age has made him wise, but at a cost: he bears an immense guilt for releasing Onaga into the realms again, and now that he is discarded by the Dragon King, has vowed to make up for this mistake. A member of the White Lotus Society, he shares traits with the games' Shaolin monk characters, such as his great receptiveness, deliberation and ability to meditate for weeks. Nevertheless, before all other things, he has always been a traveler and a student at heart.
In the New Era, Shujinko becomes a student of Raiden and Kung Lao in the Wu Shi Academy.
Mortal Kombat: The Return of the Dragon King[]
Shujinko pretty much functions the same way as he did in Deception, whether it'd be training in several classes while being tutored by Bo' Rai Cho, being a local celebrity/messenger, and proving himself to be the Champion of the Elder Gods by collecting all the Kamidogu and reuniting them in the Nexus.
Little did he and Damashi knew they were being spied on by Kung Lao's astral form.
He was able to follow him thru Earthreakm and the Netherrealm, until his mind was being hyperactive in the Chaosrealm; Hanzo escorted him out and thru the Nexus, but it wasn't long before he was found in the Houan Temple by Dark Raiden! It was stated that Shujinko was unsuccessful against him, as the merciless god was only using a portion of his strength before he went on the full assault decimating the fool heart's body and decapitated him!
There was a flashback as Lao held the Earthrealm Kamidogu, or rather a hallucination when he was bewildered that the pendants were never transported to the Elder Gods. He met up with Onaga who told him that he needed one more piece, Shinnok's Amulet, to complete his quest. Although Onaga taunted he was played the fool since Damashi never existed, only as Onaga's subconscious till his rebirth. He was about to kill Shujinko till he had a change of heart. Shujinko promised to put an end to Onaga, but due to being ambushed by Dark Raiden, who held back his prowess as he knew he'd be copied, Shujinko perished...
It's likely that when word got around to where the monks and White Lotus were, they would either not know who Shujinko was, or they'd shrug him off as he had disappeared for over forty years. Raiden, however, lamented over his death by his darker self.
Final Kombat[]
Shujinko wound up inside one of the prisons in Kahn's Fortress, although he deliberately wanted to be captured so he could eavesdrop and mimic the enemies. Unfortunately, as Taven was about to rescue him upon his pleas on copying and taking out their enemies in one fell swoop during Armageddon, Hanzo stopped him! Shujinko implored for his rescue and to redeem himself, but Hanzo knew it'd all be deception, like the Elder Gods, as he was the catalyst of the realms' destruction on resurrecting Onaga. Taven then melted the key for his cell held by the executioner. He wasn't seen in the Battle of Armageddon and apparently his powers of mimicry seemed negated while in the cell.
