The Skugs are Grimlord's foot soldiers. They usually take the form of human beings when carrying out Grimlord's agendas and travel in twos or threes. In human form, Skugs apparently gained more individuality and intelligence than they normally have in their true forms, as evidenced by Ziktor's secretaries and inventor Strickland. When confronted by the Troopers, they change into their true form and split into a few more to increase the difficulty against their adversaries. They can shift through solid floors back into Virtual Reality. There are a rare occasion of Skugs known as Mutant Skugs. Normally they are defeated by the fact that they evaporate if they touch each other. These characters are similar to the Putty Patrollers and Z Putty Patrollers.
The Skugs would later be upgraded to Ultra Skugs powered by Tyler Steele's technology. They begin as regular Skugs in traditional Trooper battles, but can transform to this form of drastically different warriors by posing towards one another in a fighting stance. They are significantly more difficult in this form, however they could still be eliminated the same way as the regular Skugs by knocking them against each other.

The Ultra Skugs are an "upgraded" form of Skugs, used with Tyler Steele's technology. They begin as regular Skugs in traditional Trooper battles, but can transform to this form of drastically different warriors by posing towards one another in a fighting stance. They are significantly more difficult in this form, however they could still be eliminated the same way as the regular Skugs (that is, by knocking them against one another).

We Are VR Troopers![]
Of course the story won't be complete without Skug fights! So, they have appeared within a park as the Troopers waited for Prof. Hart and Tyler Steele to develop some strategies for the new Virtual Reality war. JB was assisting Chita with her tricky comprehension questions, when they were ambushed by a trio of Skugs disguised as park attendants; Chita and Jeb hid within a group of garbage cans while the trio fought them off. One snuck up on the couple and Chita kept on hitting it, till it backed away to other Skugs entangled with trees!
There was also another fight within the Battle Grid as Ryan was teaching Chita a crash course for her new virtual abilities. Thankfully, Razor Kidd and Blood Clot came to their aide if they should fail and be stranded.
There were several Ultra Skugs upon the Void Club as every Trooper and Mutant fought diligently. Finally, there were 3 Skugs who were Grimlord's secretaries and ambushed Chita, Galileo, Gangrene and Bones Jackson within Ziktor Industries. They soon turned into Ultra Skugs and Galileo used its metal claw, Gangrene and Jackson were kicking while the former was whacking his tail and protruding his spikes, and Chita was using her tail as an appendage while also letting out her new screech ability disorienting them! The 3 Skugs even unwillingly walked into each other, resulting in their permanent demise.
As the war was coming to a close, there were no more cases on a single Skug ambush ever again!
