The Soul Chamber is a location within Shao Kahn's Fortress in Outworld.
The Emperor Shao Kahn originally met with his allies (presumably) in this chamber which was located above the dungeons and below the Balcony arena, but he instead has already moved his meeting to Shao Kahn's Throne Room atop his fortress. The Soul Chamber plays host to a giant tree. A swirl of kombatants' tormented souls spin within its open mouth as players do battle with each other, under the watch of Shao Kahn's loyal, royal Shadow Priests in the background.
This arena appears in Mortal Kombat 3, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Mortal Kombat Gold and later reappears in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, Mortal Kombat (2011) and Mortal Kombat 11.
In Mortal Kombat (2011), the Soul Chamber returns as the updated version of itself: a cavernous chamber with a strange statue head of a smiling and roaring horned beast with a swirl of screaming tortured souls spinning in its mouth, with somewhat living tentacles on its back and with Shao Kahn's royal Shadow Priests as still, the Soul Chamber's background characters. The Soul Chamber itself is, as confirmed in the game's story, where the warrior Ermac, who was created by Emperor Shao Kahn, begins his rejuvenation process.
In Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath, Kotal Kahn is placed within the chamber itself to heal his broken spine at the hands of Shao Kahn. The chamber also used to revive the revenant Sindel and restore her to life using the chambers powers and Shang Tsung's magic. Sindel would later release Shao Kahn from the Koliseum Beast Pen and bring him to the chamber to heal the wounds inflicted upon him by Kitana.

Trivia[]
- In Mortal Kombat 3's development, its background was different; the tree had red eyes and a big green flare.
- The design of the Soul Chamber is somewhat loosely or completely based on the Soul Tombs.
- In the art book from the Kollector's Edition of Mortal Kombat (2011), it states that the stage was in Mortal Kombat II, when it is actually from Mortal Kombat 3.
- Also, in Mortal Kombat (2011)'s Story Mode, it is in the Mortal Kombat II storyline.
- In the first Mortal Kombat film, the statue that gave Reptile his ninja body looks very much like the face of the soul chamber statue.
- In MK3, a glitch occurs involving this stage. When a player is uppercutted in this stage, they are immediately sent to the Balcony. When a fight ends in the Balcony, the next stage takes place in the Bridge, followed by the Soul Chamber. However, if a fight taking place in the Soul Chamber does not end with an uppercut sending the opponent to the Balcony, the next stage will take place in Shao Kahn's Tower.
- If Johnny Cage is chosen as the announcer voice when picking the stage in MK11, he will say "You find Jax's arms, text me", a reference to Mortal Kombat (2011) where Jax lost his arms to Ermac in the same stage.
Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, Part II[]
Indeed, unlike the atrocious reboot, it's located a few floors up within Shao Kahn's Tower, after approaching the ground prison and the church, and before the Balcony. Nightwolf and Kung Lao head there as the shaman sensed trapped souls and mounting darkness winding up at the chamber. They questioned how to free these souls and destroy the forest until they'd been ambushed by Sheeva. The Matokan stepped up to the plate while Lao headed for the Balcony and defeated her. He was about to give her an electric strike until Kitana and Liu Kang intervened to spare the Shokan and restore her duties as Sindel's bodyguard. Sheeva then assisted the heroes freeing Kahn's prisoned souls and Jax's earthquake in the Balcony while fighting Motaro made a large hole of the Chamber's ceiling. They arrived and after Lao's death, Liu vowed to put an end to Kahn for good. The Chamber was soon decimated with the Fortress itself after Liu decimated Kahn and his souls could no longer sustain the place.
Mortal Kombat Vengeance[]
It was also seen in a flashback, along with the Soul Tombs, as Liu and Lao recalled having those places bashed in and freeing the souls. At the same time, Fujin had the idea on shutting down the Soulnado from the inside to cut Shang's and Quan's endless recuperation.
