Spence was a security operative for the Umbrella Corporation. Assigned to live with Alice at a mansion in the Arklay Mountains, his duty was to protect the secondary entrance to the Hive. He is directly responsible for the outbreak in the Hive.

Spence betrayed the trio (Alice, Rain, and Kaplan) and he was the culprit on letting the T-Virus run loose. In order to have the Umbrella Corp the upper hand on ruling Planet Nintae by infecting the space harbor and all trade routes, and soon the whole galaxy will be at their mercy. Rick, as the Young Capt. Falcon, was enraged by this! He sent a deep, powerful punch toward him which was enough force to knock him out and drown and sink like a rock at the Hive's flooded chamber.
