Squall Leonhart is the main protagonist of Final Fantasy VIII. A young and aloof SeeD mercenary, others view him as cold and focused until he begins to question the way he has chosen to live his life. Squall's weapon, the gunblade, is one of the iconic weapons of the Final Fantasy series. Squall is later given the title Commander (委員長, Iinchō?, lit. Chairman).
Squall idolizes the mythical winged lion Griever, holding it as an ideal of courage and strength, traits he wishes to possess himself. The lion has come to be his symbol, the same way Rinoa is associated with angel wings.
Squall Leonhart is a hero fighting on the side of Cosmos in Dissidia Final Fantasy and Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy. He is a cold taciturn youth who wields a gunblade, a weapon part sword and part gun. He is a master of combos, able to chain a myriad of attacks. Squall is a loner focused on finding the Crystals and defeating his nemesis, Ultimecia. During his travels, he is torn between fulfilling his duty and protecting his friends, Zidane and Bartz, who are being targeted by Ultimecia's allies.
Body of Dark, Heart of Light[]
Squall made some brief cameos, like watching Cecil at Order's Sanctuary failing to catch Zidane, with a sarcastic comment as usual. He was also seen patrolling the outskirts with Lightning as the other warriors slept while Cecil snuck out from their scrutiny over him.
Dissidia Shadowgate[]
Squall was one of the Cosmos warriors that defeated Chaos, the God of Discord. He and his fellow soldiers were teleported to the Cornelia Isles, and after the Warrior mentioned there were some allies who'd fallen, he remembered Laguna and was sort of affected by the tragedy. Squall would make a grave for him, even though it'd be a sorry display. Eventually, he and his comrades were transported to the woods at the outskirts of Stormhaven by Cosmos, and his final mission was to infiltrate Shadowgate and prevent the warlock lord from raising the Behemoth. He reluctantly accepted, especially with Laguna, Zidane and Bartz in tow. He was one of the wariest warriors as he suspected of cheap tricks and traps. But he never hesitated to pull his allies out of a bind, like he did with Zidane as he was pulled by an arm from a mirror which was an intergalactic portal! He also assisted Laguna, Bartz and Zidane against the firedrake but his Gunblade but to no avail, till Vaan disabled the flames with the ice sphere, making the monster vulnerable. He did retain his memories as he fought with SeeD, even went thru time against Ultimecia and her other sorceresses. He failed against the Behemoth, though Firion was the one who finished it. He soon returned home and wished to be on another mission together again. But...in the epilogue, he was only seen as an infant held by Ellone in a cemetery, and Laguna named him Squall.
