Sub-Zero/Bi-Han stands before the Temple of Elements

Inside the Temple, location of Shinnok's Amulet
The Temple of Elements, also known as the Temple of Elementals, was a large ancient structure built into the Himalayan Mountains on Earth. Its location has been stated in various places as either Nepal or China. Its construction predated man's recorded history and its location was known only on the Map of Elements.
In the events prior to the first Mortal Kombat tournament, the original Sub Zero was dispatched by the Lin Kuei to a hidden temple in Earthrealm where a mystical treasure, sought by Quan Chi, was believed to be held. The Temple of Elementals was littered with elite traps and formidable guards, and its doors could only be unlocked by a set of four certain keys in order to progress further. The temple was also protected by four elemental guardians appointed by Raiden—one each of Wind, Earth, Water, and Fire. The temple was further safeguarded by a mystical seal which thwarted the likes of sorcerers such as Quan Chi from entering and could be dispelled only by defeating the guardians.
The forbidden amulet was well-protected with one reason only: It belonged to the fallen Elder God Shinnok. Bestowing great power upon its possessor, in the wrong hands it could bring about calamity. Therefore, at Raiden's direction, the amulet was hidden in the Temple of Elementals, over which Fujin and the other elemental guardians would stand sentry.

Shinnok's Uprising[]
It was mentioned in Kuai Liang's flashback as his brother was successful on finding the location of the Temple, via the Map of Elements given by Quan Chi, and the Gods were missing, thus the Temple was unguarded.
It couldn't be more convenient since Scorpion reattained Shinnok's Amulet from Quan Chi's dead clutches; Raiden hurriedly urged him and Sub-Zero to return it to the Temple. He mentioned his younger brother cleared the way by decimating the elemental guardians and let the demon sorcerer make a duplicate while keeping the real artifact for himself. Their mission must be successful in order to trap Shinnok into the Netherrealm and remain powerless allowing mortals to win in the war. Hanzo mentioned to Kuai that if the mission's accomplished, their families may finally find peace. Together, the ninjas trekked thru the tricky labyrinths beyond!
The duo soon reached the end, a skinny path leading to a small platform and a pit that seemed bottomless. Scorpion hesitated as he gazed and relished over the Amulet, that was until Kuai tackled him, relinquishing it! The relic was magnetized, and Shinnok's fate was sealed as soon as they heard a rumble of thunder!
Return of the Dragon King[]
Liu recommended Sindel, the Edenians, Aiko and Kenshi to head to the Temple of Elements and protect the last Kamidogu, Shinnok's Amulet. Unfortunately, while Hanzo arrived there via portal, they weren't sure where it was just, further north. Fortunately, Fujin assisted them as he conjured his own portal there. Hours passed and Aiko struck up a conversation with Li Mei discussing her relationship with Kung Lao; she was amazed on how strong their bond was and how much Lao'd been praised as a hero, even by Bo'! That was until Johnny was tossed into the prison ditch by the Edenian knights. Kenshi and Aiko then sensed a brewing storm and omnipotence emitting from the Academy. They both went there among Kenshi's returning coordinates.
Minutes later, the heroes returned via Raiden's teleportation and remained there to defend Shinnok's Amulet; the storm dissipated though had an enormous downpour as Raiden was restored while destroying his doppelganger.
Johnny was soon able to regain his lost strength, and also become erratic as he was climbing out of the steep prison. He ambushed the Edenian knights and overmatched the other Kombatants as he headed to the abysmal chamber, despite some of the knights being complacent on Cage finding the amulet. He was, however, stunned by Kitana reciting an Edenian spell which was said to restore Onaga's victims, although he was ambushed by Ashrah as she stabbed him with Kriss and embedded him with her holy energy. She then left as she volunteered to find Sonya and Jax.
Soon afterwards, the Outworld war began in the Living Forest and the barren plains; Aiko actually watched her heart gem as Lao, Hanzo, Havik, Liu, Goro, and Ermac were fighting Onaga in the Nexus. She and several other spectators cheered for the Champions. Until the battle subsided and the Shaolin suffered the worst. They were soon escorted by Raiden thru a portal to the sacred Sky Temple.
