Tomahawks are old Native American weapons used by Nightwolf in Mortal Kombat 3, Mortal Kombat: Deception, Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, Mortal Kombat (2011) and Mortal Kombat 11. These tomahawks are also featured as another one of the collectible Relics under the name Nightwolf's Axe within the Konquest mode of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon.
This enchanted axe has been used by members of Nightwolf's Native American tribe for centuries. Now, Nightwolf uses this same ancient and enchanted axe as a weapon to battle his enemies and the evil spirits of other worlds.
Ikran's MK Khronology[]
Of course, this is one of Nightwolf's signature weapons, but they're mostly made of green soul energy, the spirits of his ancestors, even though they're tangible. In some fics, they're also used to empower someone facing a fatal opponent such as Nightwolf and his friends gathering around and touching the glowing tomahawk, and its users, to give their faraway hero prayers and strength. A few examples include Nightwolf and his friends giving Liu their spirits to win over Shao Kahn and having the pure energy restore Liu's faith after he lost Kung Lao by Motaro. Or when they gave Liu their energy thru the Netherrealm since they can't cross and fight Shinnok. Or, when they give Kung Lao and Liu Kang prayers to guide them and have their spirits cleansed as they reunite with their bodies after Onaga's war.
Trivia[]
- The Tomahawks are used by Nightwolf in every generation. In MK3, MK:D and MK: A, he uses Tomahawks made out of Earthbound materials. In Mortal Kombat (2011), however, it is a spiritual weapon that Nightwolf can summon, similar to how he does with the Bow and Arrow. In Mortal Kombat 11, his tomahawks were once again made out of materials.
- Also, in Mortal Kombat 11, Nightwolf can duplicate his tomahawks into two.
- In Mortal Kombat X, The Revenant Nightwolf's Tomahawks are red. However, they appear to return to the green versions in Mortal Kombat 11.
- In Mortal Kombat Mobile’s Faction Wars Store, the Bloody Tomahawk is one of the many equipment items which can be bought with Blood Rubies.
- Some of Sub-Zero's kustomization options for his Ice Battle Axes appear to look very similar to Tomahawks.
