Yin Yang Island

The Yin Yang Island is a mysterious island that became an arena in the Mortal Kombat series.

History[]

This island is stuck between two realms, Earthrealm and Outworld.

Sailors have said they've seen an island in a bed of fog then it would vanish. They said that the trees there would become snakes then turn back into trees again. No one would believe them and often blamed the strange delusional tales about the island on the rum.

General view[]

The good part of Yin Yang Island is located in Earthrealm. It shows a luxurious, modern cruise liner on a calm open ocean and clear blue skies bathed in beautiful sunlight. In the distance is a serene Buddhist-like statue holding a flowerpot with healthy flowers inside it. The island also has tall palm trees in foreground, thus giving a more peaceful, festive feel. Also, in the middle of the foreground, between the trees, is a rope-tied gong-like object with the Mortal Kombat dragon logo on it.

The evil part of Yin Yang Island is located in Outworld. It shows a Nethership on an unsafe ocean, a pale full moon, raging thunderstorms and fierce lightnings in the distance with a sinister statue of an undead dark priest holding a fire pot which emits a flame. The trees in the foreground turn into enormous man-eating snakes, thus giving a more sinister, isolated feel. Also, in the middle of the foreground, between the giant man-eating serpents, is a rope-tied gong-like object with a Mortal Kombat dragon logo on it.

In both versions of the Island stage, anyone who gets knocked into the water with a strong attack will be eaten alive by piranhas, the Deathtrap for this stage.

Statues of Yin Yang Island[]

In three concept sketches (including the two Earthrealm/Outworld sketches), there are still two versions of the two old, Asian-typed statues found on the Yin Yang Island. The one statue on the left is that of a calm, peaceful Buddhist holding a flowerpot with healthy flowers in it. The other statue on the right is that of a skull faced, undead-looking priest holding a fire pot that emits a flame.

Final Kombat[]

The tropical island was an escape and safe haven for Caro, the enslaved dragon of Daegon; a mysterious man possessing fire, lightning and Jinsei energy rescued the poor serpent, even breaking his shackles and conjured a portal there! Caro collapsed onto the beach as he was too weak to stand. The Oriental's Edenian partner tended to him as she gave him a cushion to rest on, even some fresh fruit. Caro's savior listened in on the dragon's plight involving his abusive owner, even Blaze's involvement in Armageddon. Feeling sympathetic, the fighter continued to follow Taven, leaving Caro to the woman's care.

In a distant cavern, the same Oriental was seen meditating before he received some readings from an unusual portal showing him Taven's journey as well as possessing a sacred amulet that began to crack.

The same undulating objects were still shown in the distant cavern, much as another certain location...

Eventually, Caro was strong enough to leave the island and head thru the mystical portal to the Netherrealm; he was also able to save Aiko in the nick of time as she fell off Kharon's Ship. After they and Lao recovered in the Dragon Grotto, Raiden coaxed Caro to reunite with Orin at the island and to find out if whether or not the mysterious Oriental was in fact Liu Kang from a different time period as there are currently two versions of Aiko. He did and the two dragons reunited after millennia being driven apart by their duties watching over the sleeping sons. They both decided to watch over Taven and their allies and be as consultants till Armageddon.

After Taven and Hanzo's hastily escaped from Kahn's Fortress, the Oriental gave the signal for Caro to create a portal leading to Edenia. When everything was calm, Caro soon confessed he awakened Daegon prematurely as he lost contact with Blaze, thinking it'd be the signal to do so. Everyone forgave him, but the Edenian suggested for the Oriental to trace back Blaze's steps from the incident he met Kitana. He stated it may take a considerable amount of time, in which he rewound the mystical portal following Blaze back to when he was imprisoned in the Lava Shrine. The elemental entered the portal and sped up time until Blaze was freed from the lava pool; he discovered Onaga's egg and witnessed his holy men hold the hell spawn until the egg hatched and shot a beam of light thru Reptile! The savior returned and recapped, before they resumed watching over Taven heading to the Edenian Palace.

The quartet continued to follow Taven, and no one regretted when he had to kill Daegon in bloody kombat at the Edenian Ruins. Even Caro was relieved he's finally been slain, and the Oriental reminded everyone that people have the right to choose their own destiny whereas Daegon walked the path of corruption and evil.

As Blaze was erupting atop the Pyramid of Argus, the Oriental noticed the commotion and watched the Edenian fall! He tended her and Caro sent Aiko's igniting gem to him via his own rip. As Aiko broke down never wanting Fire God Liu Kang to sacrifice himself and she never noticed Kitana's vessel dissolve while the gem revitalized the Edenian on the island... The Oriental watched Raiden's amulet break and shatter! Knowing he failed, he broke down! Caro and Orin were stunned as they witnessed the total destruction... Aiko's mind began to overreact, and she tried to fight back the hallucinations on the world being destroyed, until she noticed waves crashing calmly and found herself on a tropical island. She followed Caro to a clearing where a Hourglass stood as was Kitana without her vial! With ecstasy Aiko reunited with her, and she recognized Aiko preserving her memories from her heart gem; all her deeds would live on, and the Elder Gods should bless her for it! She assured the Oriental she was alive, and Orin was relieved even Taven survived. The mysterious Oriental continued to look thru the portal as every hero recovered gradually.

Aiko and Kung Lao witnessed the elder Liu Kang surprisingly visit them in his former Tomb stating that Lao's destiny as Chosen One has went full circle! Later on, they also pined to see Kitana, Liu and even Caro if they should return... Even Taven would miss the red dragon dearly, and he gave Aiko a jubilant ride around the island! Now free, Caro stuck with the elder time-travelers!

Kontentment[]

Yin Yang Island was the main setting of the oneshot. A red portal appeared before Aiko and recognizing the peeking of the crimson dragon snout, she followed thru. The portal led to the isle which was actually starting to be hit by a tropical storm! Aiko ran in a nearby cave, and it soon turned out to be Caro's home! The cavern had actually been renovated by him, Liu and Kitana, as he stated they'd made it their sanctuary after Shang's island crumbled before the second modern tourney. Caro highlighted the elders' time-hopping: from Liu's victory over Kronika, to attaining the Krown from Shang, to reuniting with Kitana and resculpted history! Unfortunately, it wasn't without tragedy as Liu lost the Great Kung Lao after training him, even though he won over Goro but succumbed to his wounds... Aiko was fascinated with all the misadventures, and she soon met up with Kitana who was holding a bundle of bliss, her and Liu's newborn demigod, Cheung! She gifted him her heart gem, and it was revealed by Liu he trained Caro as the guardian of the Hourglass while they were away, even against his Dragon form! Once he and the Edenians noticed Kitana was pregnant, he was preparing for the challenge and successfully conceded!

Koherence[]

Liu Kang summoned Kung Lao and Aiko to the Hourglass and shown them the solution involving both the Makeba and the Aboriginals of Earthrealm. As the New Keeper of Time he watched over the realm with Kitana and saw its evolution, specifically when Pangea began to break apart and the denizens at its core which became Africa stayed while some already located to the Americas, sharing their tribal customs. Ironically, it was confirmed that the Makeba of Outworld were ancestors of those said natives as they went thru a portal during some time in Onaga's union of the smaller realms.

He then rewound to 1991 when the young Aiko was first infatuated with the same African and Native American rituals, as they happened in real time where he was, and it was televised where she was. He too grew intrigued and began to learn their ways, even when Nightwolf joined the heroes. He unveiled he went back over Aiko's ancestry, revealing of her European DNA, their arrival in the colonies, and became intermixed with one of the Indians, thus having Matokan descent!! He assured she mustn't be afraid of her weakness any longer, and that he can help her muster it; she and Lao gladly accepted!

Side Stories[]

It was of course the home of the sacred Hourglass where Lord Liu Kang and Lady Kitana observed time and history. Just as soon as Shang's Island sunk into the sea before the second tournament occurred. They even reflected on the battle of the Gods orchestrated by Shinnok as well as the extinction of the dinosaurs and Saurians.

Raiden's Memorial

Raiden's Memorial made by Lord Liu Kang

The isle was under several tremors alarming Caro, Kitana and Cheung; from the red dragon's and Edenian's observance, they'd witnessed an eruption emitting from Shang Tsung's Island. It turned out that Lord Liu Kang decimated the isle, mainly its Tower. From the remaining rubble, Liu built a memorial for Raiden, just a couple weeks after the isle was struck by lightning; the eternal flame remained constant ever since.

Trivia[]

  • This place was mistakenly identified as Shang Tsung's Island in Ikran's MK Khronology; while it and Shang's are 2 separate islands, she'd rather prefer for it to be as Shang's reformed and more comfortable turf instead.
